3 Times are changing With the growing adoption of enterprise mobile devices, IT departments can no longer assume that strategic business information recorded in Planned Maintenance System databases stays in the classic client - server environment. Data must be accessible - and protected - on mobile devices in the field. 3

4 Challenges in a mobile maritime environment Planned Maintenance System databases contain vast amounts of data. Mobile devices have limited storage. Planned Maintenance Systems often demand complex calculations. Mobile devices have limited CPU power and RAM. There is no full wifi coverage for most maritime installations. Wifi networks can be unstable and slow. How to synchronize devices efficiently and transaction-safe? 4

5 Challenges in a mobile maritime environment Time and resources for trainings are limited. The solution needs to be as easy and self-explanatory as possible. Data synchronization needs to work seamless and independent. Working conditions can be tough and dangerous. The mobile devices need to be prepared for such environments and meet the relevant regulatory. Data security matters. Access needs to be controlled, protected and mobile data needs to be encrypted. 5

9 SpecTec s Solution Business & Synch. Logic Prevent incorrect data produced on the mobile unit inserted into AMOS tables. Assure correct execution of (custom) workflows. Centralized control of access rights and protection of data (accessibility levels). 9

Avoid data collision if data is updated in AMOS suite or mobile unit. Option to define data subscription, avoiding large data transfer on to the mobile unit. 10

11 SpecTec s Solution Business & Synch. Logic The business logic main task is to ensure data is aligned on both AMOS database and on the remote database(s). It will also at best try to use the correct data automatically. After synchronization from the remote database the calculated end result is sent back to the remote database. Remote database will not adjust data directly within AMOS database, but transfer change instructions. 11

12 SpecTec s Solution Business & Synch. Logic This will allow you to change mobile device units to more powerful devices WITHOUT having to change the AMOS installation. When the capacity on the device expands, you expand the data subscription rules. Lower capacity device are also supported and can be configured with lower data amount, you decide. 12

13 SpecTec s Solution Business & Synch. Logic Subscription rules can conveniently be created & edited (simple SQL statements). A set of standard subscription rules is delivered. A subscription rule can be global for all units or be customized per each device. 13

But also optional by manual operation. It is configurable what readings are to be automatically and what to be manual. 14

Just needs to be setup centrally once per installation. Vast portfolio of connection options (wifi, USB, Bluetooth, ). A lot of transmission protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP(S), ). Highly customizable and efficient (up to data subsets by row & column criteria). Capable of PUSH and server initiated synchronization triggers. 19

20 SpecTec s Solution Mobile Synchronization The two most common synchronization options: WIFI where available, it will start sync as soon as it is in reach and if WIFI lost it will stop, and continue (not all over again, but from the drop point) once found again. Scenario: a user goes in and out of the engine room. Sync can also be done at the PC station using a cradle. Scenario: a user returns to his workstation after data collection. 20

27 SpecTec s Solution Mobile Application The AMOS Mobile software will make use of a laser bar code or RFID reader if such exists. Dependent on the device capabilities. Any 1D barcode or RFID frequency the device supports AMOS Mobile will support. Examples for the most commonly supported 1D barcodes: EAN UPC JAN Code 39 /

28 SpecTec s Solution Mobile Application The AMOS Mobile software will make use of a built-in digital camera if such exists. When a user creates a work requisition, the user is also enabled to take photos with the device and attach them to the work order. The resolution and quality of the picture taken depends on the device s capabilities. Within AMOS there is a parameter that limits how large the image files can be in order to attach them. This parameter is also respected in the AMOS Mobile software. 28

44 Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres AMOS Mobile can be run on intrinsically safe devices which are certified to be used in areas with an explosive atmosphere (for instance ATEX zone 2 and 22). 44
