1 Intercollege Faculty Intranet Online Course Setup (Lecturer s Manual) Getting Started

2 Logging to the Faculty Intranet. Enter the Following URL: Choose campus, enter your User ID and Password (Given to you by the Administrator) and then press Login Button to Log In the System.

3 After Logging In the following screen appears: Then you Press Academic on the Left Site Menu Bar and Select Course Schedule

4 After entering Course Schedule the following Screen appears. Here is displayed the list of all the courses that you teach the current Semester. You can also make a search by entering the Semester and the Year you want, to view your schedule. Then you select the course you want to work on and by clicking on the Courses name a pop up menu appears with the following options: Class List, Course Profile, Progress/Grade, Online Course Setup. You select Online Course Setup.

5 There is an alternative way of getting to the Online Course Setup Program. From the left side menu choose Utilities and then Online Course Setup: Then you will see the Course Id prompt to set up the new course and list of links to courses you have already created. You are going to see only your own courses.

6 Now as you can see from the screen below you can see the COMP-150 (Microcomputer Applications) details: Course Outline, Lecturer, Lecturer s Recourses, Other Recourses, Course Forum. Also on the Left side of your screen you can see a side menu containing the same course features, plus the additional links: HOME Course Outline The structure of each course is pre-designed, so that the Lecturers could only enter their course information. Using the above example of the course COMP150, we will step by step enter all the information about this course starting by clicking on the Course Outline. The following screen appears. The easiest way of starting building the Course Outline is to click Initialize link:

7 Then the initial Course outline structure recommended by Academic Affairs Department will appear. You do not have to follow this structure. You will be able to modify it (add or delete sections, change sections order, etc.) according to your needs. You can initialize your course only once. If you need to do it again then you have to delete all sections first. The link will appear automatically. After you click Initialize the following screen appears: As you can see the course outline has two- level structure. Course Outlines are subdivided into sections and each section may have one or more items.

8 Section Management. 1. Adding a new section. To add new section click Add Section link. The new section will appear in the bottom of the screen 2. Deleting a section. To delete a section click Delete Section link. 3. Changing section title. To change Section Title click Change Title link. The following prompt appears: Click Update button after changing the Section title text. 4. Managing sections order. Use Move Up and Move Down links to move the section up or down.

9 Managing Section Items. 1. Adding Items. To add item click Add Item link on the Section title Bar: New item appears in the end of item lists. 2. Editing an item. To edit an item click Update link: The Item title prompt and tiny text editor to edit the item body will appear. You can copy and past item content from your ready files (Word, Wordpad, etc.): when you finish editing, press Update button.

10 3. Deleting an item. Use Delete link to delete an item: 4. Changing items order. Use Move Up and Move Down links to change the items order. 4. Changing an icon. Click Change Icon link: Icon Catalog will appear:

11 Double click the desired icon. System will return to the previous screen and the icon will be updated: Lecturer Now let s press the Home link and move to the Home Page of our system. We are now going to fill in the Lecturer s information by clicking on the Lecturer link. Profile editor utility (re. Faculty Intranet manual) will be invoked to manage your data. Make sure you have entered your office hours and Student Advising hours, for this information is important for students.

12 Schedule / Lecturer Material If we return to our Home page we can now work on our Schedule/Lecturer material Item by clicking on the following icon. The page has similar structure. See p.p. 1 regarding section and item management. Using Links You can add URL links to an item. In order to do that click Add Link:

13 The undefined link appears: Click Update URL in order to change link attributes. The Updating URL prompt appears: Enter the Link Name for the link (how you want it to appear on the page) and actual URL (electronic address of the resource). Click Update URL button to finish the update.

14 Using File Manager You can use File Manager to upload your files on the system WEB server. This way you can make your content be available to students through the WEB. 1. Running the file manager. Click File Manager link on the top of the screen or choose File Manager from the left side menu: File manager windows appears:

15 Uploading a file. Click Browse Button to locate a file on you hard disk. After the filename is entered, click Upload File button. Then you should be able to see the file in the list. Deleting a file Right click the file name and choose Delete from pop-up menu. Downloading a file Right click the file name and choose Open/Download from pop-up menu

16 Creating a folder Enter new folder name, then click Create Directory. New folder appears in the list: Entering the folder. Double click the desired folder and choose Open from the pop-up menu. System will take you inside: Verify if the path for the opened folder correct:

17 Click UP link to go back to the parent folder. Deleting a folder Click the desired folder and choose Delete from the pop-up menu. Confirm the deleting of the folder or cancel the operation. Adding files to the Course Page File manager displays link to the uploaded file:

18 Copy the link and paste it to the URL prompt of the Schedule/Lecturer Resources page.

19 Publishing the Course Student will access your course via student Intranet from the link located on the Personal Course Schedule form. However, while you are working on the course the link is not available. When the course is ready you can allow students to view the page by clicking Publish Course button on the left-side menu: After clicking the button the Publish Course menu item will be changed to Hide Course. By clicking this button you can disable the course from viewing at any time.
