1 Job Description Job Title: Hours: Reports to: Salary Range: Healthcare Assistant Various hours, covering 5 days per week Full time, part-time or casual/zero hours positions are available please state for which you wish to be considered when applying Service Manager Ultrasound & Diagnostic Services k (subject to qualification and experience) pro rata GP Care GP Care is a recognised provider of community based healthcare services including diagnostics, outpatient and ancillary services to NHS and private patients within Gloucestershire and Swindon, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, North Somerset and BANES. In addition it offers a variety of support services to its shareholder base of 100 practices which comprise over 650 GPs who look after approximately 1,000,000 patients. Job Purpose You will be a key part of a rapidly growing team where the ability to use your own initiative, multi task, and work under the supervision of clinical staff and prioritise activity are all essential. In your role as Healthcare Assistant you will provide general support to GP Care s team delivering a range of outpatient services which will be predominantly ultrasound clinics from multiple locations across Gloucestershire and Swindon. Organisational Chart Service Manager Ultrasound & Diagnostic Services Service Lead Clinical Coordinator Sonographers Patient Coordinators Healthcare Assistants Key Responsibilities General Work as part of the GP Care team to contribute to the business; Represent the organisation positively in all contacts both directly to the public and between health professionals and managers; Apply your best endeavours at all times to add to the service quality, reputation, influence and profitability of the organisation; Provide support to other GP Care team members on their projects where appropriate. To wear uniform provided and adhere to company uniform policy 1

2 Specific Assume responsibility for transporting and setting up portable equipment between clinic locations and putting up GP Care signage at clinics to direct patients; Maintain an overview of clinics to ensure smooth running and patients seen on time, liaise with reception staff re clinic changes; Assisting the clinicians in sterile and non-sterile procedures e.g. positioning of patients, setting up trolleys and sterile equipment, act as a chaperon during intimate procedures where required; Maintain patient privacy and dignity for patients at all times, assisting patients with dressing and undressing where required; Manual handling of patients and equipment in line with company policy; Disposal of clinical, household and sharps waste in line with agreed policies and procedures at each clinic location; Clean and prepare examination couches and other equipment between patients; Supporting the clinician in use of the computer system that records the patient consultations, typing in and collating data as required at clinic locations; Meet, greet and reassure patients; Explain procedures to patients and give out after care instructions and patient satisfaction questionnaires; Accompany patients back to reception following completion of scans or outpatient procedures; Adhering to health and safety and infection control standards, in particular hand hygiene and universal precautions; To be able to act in situations of crisis and to be familiar with emergency procedures, including fire and basic life support; To be aware of possible hazards within clinic locations take immediate action and report any incidents/accidents to the manager; Undertake a range of administrative duties post clinic to include faxing report/ ing reports to GP s. Communication Maintain a friendly, helpful, confident and professional manner at all times; Exercise discretion as to the degree of urgency and confidentiality required in both administrative functions and the handling of calls. Other To perform such other tasks as may reasonably be expected to fulfil the duties for which you are employed. Confidentiality In the course of your duties you may have access to confidential material about patients, members of staff or other health service business. On no account must information relating to identifiable patients be divulged to anyone other than authorised persons, for example, medical, nursing or other professional staff, as appropriate, who are concerned directly with the care, diagnosis and /or treatment of the patient. If you are in any doubt whatsoever as to the authority of a person or body asking for information of this nature, you must seek advice from your manager. Similarly, no information of a personal or confidential nature concerning individual members of staff should be divulged to anyone without the proper authority having first been given. Failure to observe these rules will be regarded by your employers as serious or gross misconduct which could result in disciplinary action being taken against you. Health and Safety/Security It is the duty of every employee to work in such a way that accidents to themselves and to others are avoided, and to co-operate in maintaining their place of work in a tidy and safe condition, thereby minimising risk. Employees will, therefore, refer any matters of concern through their respective managers. Similarly, it is each person s responsibility to ensure a secure environment and bring any breaches of security to the attention of their managers. 2

Location You will nominally be based at GP Care s Head Office, currently Christchurch Medical Centre, Downend, Bristol, BS16 5SG; although you will actually be working at various clinic locations in Gloucestershire and Swindon. Travel between the multiple clinic locations will be required. This job description may be reviewed in the light of changing service needs. Any changes will be fully discussed with the post holder.
