1 Municipal Corporation Panchkula e-newsletter AUGUST , Issu e 2 Municipal Corporation Panchkula is a premier municipal body looking after various civic amenities in its municipal limits. Panchkula has a unique status in Haryana due to its planned urban development, road networks and lush green areas in the heart of the city. The e-newsletter initiative takes a step forward Municipal Corporation Panchkula is a front-runner organization providing all the civic amenities and delivering the citizen services in Municipal Corporation area. MC is a citizen centric organization which lays total emphasis on the delivery of citizen services with convenience and transparency as the utmost goal. For bringing SMART Governance in the working, MC is taking several innovative initiatives including the present one. Jagdeep Dhanda Commissioner We are living in digital era where information and communication technologies (ICT) have given new means to the structure of governance. To use the power of ICT for reaching to the community and providing maximum information in a transparent manner, MC has started this new initiative of publishing Electronic Newsletter. I wish this endeavour would be a great success! The initiative has been taken as a proactive step towards improving the governance by sharing information with the citizens of the city. 2 N EW S LET T ER AUGUST ISSU E 2 2 Story 1 - Inhouse Maintenance Wing started There has been growing demand from the citizens of Panchkula to repair the patches developed at various places on the roads of Panchkula as it has been causing lot of problems to the residents. Sometimes, it is resulting in accidents particularly during the rainy season. Accordingly, in order to effectively address this issue, Municipal Corporation, Panchkula has decided to expedite the repair and maintenance of the small patch works by creating an Inhouse Maintenance Wing. The citizens can lodge a complaint at the toll-free number or at the reception numbers / of the Municipal Corporation, Panchkula. The wing will take stock of the patches developed on the roads and shall get them repaired in a time bound manner to enable the residents drive smoothly on the roads of Panchkula, the sites ensuring road safety to other road users also. The Inhouse Maintenance Wing will stock the bitumen and other material to carry on the work on urgent basis to avoid any delay on account of the tendering process. The initiative will help the citizens upto great extent in resolving their day to day problems in transportation in the city.
3 N EW S LET T ER AUGUST ISSU E 2 3 Story 2 - Clean Panchkula Sanitation Drive started Municipal Corporation, Panchkula is going to give a major boost to the cleanliness in the city. Besides, the regular ongoing sanitation work, the MC, Panchkula has decided to launch the cleanliness drive on a Mission Mode Approach. In the drive, one sector/ area will be taken up every week for a thorough cleaning of the area. For the drive, a Special Team is being deputed every week under the direct supervision of the Executive Officer of the MC, Panchkula to ensure proper cleaning of the area. The Municipal Councillors and citizens can propose the areas with poor sanitation to be taken up on priority. The drive started with Sector 14, followed by Sector 20, where a team of Sanitation Wing was deployed along with the dumpers and other machinery required for the drive. The initiative has been appreciated by the Councillors and residents of Panchkula. The demand from other sectors and areas has also started coming to take up the areas with poor sanitation on priority.
4 N EW S LET T ER AUGUST ISSU E 2 4 Story 3 - Facilitation of Parks Development Societies Municipal Corporation, Panchkula is a front runner organization in promoting the public participation in the maintenance of the city. Maintenance of Parks through the Parks Development Societies is one such innovative initiative of the Corporation, where the parks are maintained by the societies of the concerned local residents of that sector who are using that park. Already around 190 such parks are maintained through such societies. The societies maintain the parks and the Municipal Corporation makes 3/- per sq. mtr for the maintenance of these parks. There have been concerns from the Municipal Councillors that the payments to the societies get delayed on account of misplacement of bills and inappropriate system of handling the bills. Thereby, it was deemed appropriate to start a system with proper accountability of the officers and accordingly a Parks Development Societies Drop Box was put up at the MC, Panchkula office where such bills can be submitted. The Drop Box will be opened by the designated officers of the MC, Panchkula twice a week and all the bills will ensured for timely payments. The system will bring transparency, accountability and efficiency in the system for dealing with such bills for such a noble cause of maintaining the parks for the residents of Panchkula.
5 About this e-newsletter This e-newsletter initiative is a pro-active step of Municipal Corporation, Panchkula to apprise and update the residents of Panchkula about its activities, programmes, projects and public welfare schemes. The aim of the e-newsletter is to proliferate the information to the masses, seek their suggestions and active participation in the noble mission of making Panchkula as the best place to live in. This is the second issue, which has been launched to carry on the odyssey of MC, Panchkula towards a more dynamic and IT driven organization in this electronic era. We want to be more forward looking, responsive and accountable towards the citizen needs. We hope that residents of Panchkula would definitely appreciate this initiative and will help us in making it better each passing month.
