3 Definitions Dissemination The public disclosure of the results by any appropriate means (other than resulting from protecting or exploiting the results), including by scientific publications in any medium. Communication A strategically planned process, that starts at the outset of the action and continues throughout its entire lifetime, aimed at promoting the action and its results. It requires strategic and targeted measures for communicating about (i) the action and (ii) its results to a multitude of audiences, including the media and the public and possibly engaging in a two-way exchange. 3

Dissemination: Plan for the dissemination and exploitation of the project's results (unless not required by the Work Programme topic) Dissemination and exploitation measures should address the full range of potential users and uses including research, commercial, investment, social, environmental, policy making, setting standards, skills and educational training. Include measures to provide open access 6

10 Dissemination in the Grant Agreement ARTICLE 29 DISSEMINATION OF RESULTS OPEN ACCESS VISIBILITY OF EU FUNDING Obligation to disseminate results disclosing them to the public by appropriate means (other than those resulting from protecting or exploiting the results), including in scientific publications (in any medium). Prior notice to other Beneficiaries. Right to object If no protection foreseen EC must be informed before dissemination takes place 10

11 ARTICLE 29 DISSEMINATION OF RESULTS OPEN ACCESS VISIBILITY OF EU FUNDING Information on EU funding Obligation to use the EU emblem, any dissemination of results (in any form, including electronic) must: display the EU emblem (appropriate prominence) and include the following text: This project has received funding from the [European Union s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme][euratom research and training programme ] under grant agreement No [Number]. Disclaimer excluding [Commission][Agency] responsibility Any dissemination of results must indicate that it reflects only the author's view and that the [Commission][Agency] is not responsible for any use that may be made of the information it contains. 11

13 What is expected? Communication activities: Describe communication measures for promoting the project and its findings during the grant. Measures should be proportionate to the scale of the project, with clear objectives. Tailored to the needs of various audiences, including groups beyond the project s own community. If relevant, include measures for public/societal engagement on issues related to the project 13

15 Communication WHAT: Research results and key events WHY: visibility and prestige, impact, responsibility to citizens (accountability), public opinion, Grant Agreement requirement TO WHOM: General Public, Researchers, Industry, SMEs, Universities, research organisations, Multipliers (media in particular), Decision-makers WHERE: Internet, media (TV, press ), scientific journals, meetings HOW: website, flyiers, press releases, pictures, videos WHEN: on time, project life cycle. 15

16 Communication in the Grant Agreement ARTICLE 38 PROMOTING THE ACTION VISIBILITY OF EU FUNDING 38.1 Communication activities by beneficiaries Obligation to promote the action and its results, by providing targeted information to multiple audiences (including the media and the public) in a strategic and effective manner. Information on EU funding Obligation and right to use the EU emblem Any communication activity related to the action, infrastructure, equipment and major results funded by the grant must: display the EU emblem (appropriate prominence) and include This project has received funding from the [European Union s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme][euratom research and training programme ] under grant agreement No [number]. 16

17 Right to use beneficiaries materials, documents or information The EC for its communication and publicising activities may use information relating to the action, (documents, public deliverables and any other material. This right includes: use for its own purposes distribution to the public editing or redrafting for communication and publicising activities Translation giving access in response to individual requests storage in paper, electronic or other form; archiving, in line with applicable document-management rules, and 17
