6 3 Conditions for Admission to a Hospital Placement Bilateral agreement: Placements outside an exchange program are refused. You should check that a bilateral agreement exists between our two universities in Medicine. Otherwise, the BRI is looking forward to hearing from your university possibly to create a new agreement. Status: you must be a full-time student in a Faculty of Medicine of a university recognised by the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) - Contact : Required level of study: in order to be accepted on our placements, you should be in the 4th, 5th or 6th year of your medical studies when you undertake the placement, which is the equivalent of levels DCEM 2 DCEM 3 DCEM 4 in French universities. Linguistic competence: During placements, the teaching and all exchanges with patients and other health workers are conducted in French. It is thus important that you can demonstrate a high level of competence in French in order for your application to be considered. The Faculty reserves the right to reject any student with insufficient command of French from the placement. 4 Organisation of the Hospital Placement Duration: You can make 1, 2 or 3 placements in various specialisms at least 2 months for each placement. The UFR Medicine reserves the right to change either the duration or the chosen specialism of your placement in response to availability within the different hospitals. Work schedule: placements are full-time and may require night shifts. The timetables are full and leave little time for other activities. No holidays or personal leave may be taken during placements. Changes: withdrawal and changes of placements or to timetables are permitted only in exceptional circumstances. You are required to inform the B.R.I. as soon as possible if such a situation arises. Dress code: As an externe working in the hospital you will often be the first medical professional that patients encounter: we would therefore ask you not to wear jeans, shorts or other casual wear. 7 5 Application for a Hospital Placement Step 1 : Putting together your application You must send your application form (see appendices A, B and C) to the International Relations Office (BRI), in a single envelope. Incomplete applications will be rejected. For spring (April-May-June) or summer (July-August-September) placements: Send your application form to the BRI before 30th November of the preceding year. N.B.: Summers placements will be favored For autumn (October-November-December) or winter (January-February-March) placements: Send your application form to the BRI before 30th May of the currrent year. Step 2 : Selection process BRI will send your application form to the Faculty of Medicine for evaluation and selection by the International Relations Commission. > Acceptance of your application: Continue with registration process (Step 3 Acceptance of your application). > Rejection of your application: You will receive an from B.R.I. explaining the reasons for this decision. The registration process ends. Page 7

8 Step 3 : Acceptance of your application > Allocation to hospital The B.R.I. will inform you of the hospital to which you have been allocated. > Send B.R.I. your Placement Authorisation Form (Model: Appendix F) - Download the placement authorisation form at this link: - Fill it on computer using the model in appendix F and send it by mail at this address: accueilentrants@univ-paris-diderot.fr for verification. - Print out 3 copies and Sign it: After BRI s validation, the student should print and sign three copies of the authorisation form (Student). You will not be allowed to begin your placement until the B.R.I. has received the three copies of this authorisation (at least 4 weeks before the start of your placement). Once the authorisation has been received, the International Relations Office will send you confirmation that you have been accepted on the placement. 6 Registration and hospital reception Before your placement begins, you should go to the Faculty of Medicine for registration. After registration, you may go to the hospital to which you have been allocated. Page 8

9 7 Student Services French courses The Department of French as a Foreign Language of the Université Paris Diderot organises courses for international students who need to improve their knowledge of French in order to derive the maximum benefit from their studies. For more information: Accommodation You will find information on the various types of accommodation available in the International Relations Office (BRI). However, the Université Paris Diderot cannot guarantee accommodation for students on placement, in view of the differences between placement periods and the university calendar. For more information: Visa formalities The Université Paris Diderot cannot help in obtaining visas for France. Candidates are therefore advised to contact the French Consulate or Embassy in their home countries to ensure that they are not refused entry into France. The process of obtaining a foreign student visa or other document may take several weeks and you are therefore urged to start the process as early as possible. Page 9

10 Appendix A Application Form Documents to be sent to the BRI Any incomplete application form will be rejected «Moveonline» form Fill in the form on-line Print out the form Have it signed by the Dean of your Faculty of Medicine Supporting Letter + Curriculum Vitae Provide a typed and signed supporting letter and a complete CV. Authorisation by the Dean of the Home University Faculty (Appendix B) Have this signed by the Dean of your Faculty of Medicine + official stamp Request for Hospital Placements (Specialism) (Appendix C) To be completed by you. Grade Transcripts and Hospital Placement Evaluations Supply copies of your grade transcripts and evaluation reports of your hospital placements bearing the official stamp of your Faculty of Medicine and signed by a senior member of staff. Insurance and Vaccination Certificates Provide a Civil and Pofessional Liability insurance certificate valid for France covering the entire period of your stay. Provide a copy of your vaccination certificates N.B.: Your vaccinations must be up to date and valid for France. Passport and Photograph Please provide a copy of your passport Please supply 3 photos (50 mm x 70 mm) Certificate of French Language Competance The following diplomas and tests are accepted as fulfilling the requirements of language competence: DELF B2 DALF C1 and C2 TCF Level 4 TEF Level 3 Page 10
