Accelerated track EuroPort Business School offers ambitious students the possibility to enter into an accelerated program. The accelerated track enables students to complete the IBMS-program in three years. In the accelerated track the academic load per year is higher. This track is only accessible for students who have earned all credits for trimester 1 and 2. Accelerated track: an intensive educational challenge The shortened course is being made possible by an intensive program, several educational systems, assessments and one-to-one coaching by a business professional. Holiday periods are shorter than at an average school. Besides that, EuroPort Business School guarantees an optimal study environment with small classes. No ordinary school From the first day you enter our school, you will notice that EuroPort Business School is no ordinary school. 6 Two moments to start You can start all our educations at every location in either September of February. September When you start your education in September, you will have your first traineeship at the beginning of year two. Your second period as trainee (the participation internship) will be at the end of year three. The third (integration) internship will be in year 4 and must take place in a foreign country. February When you start in February, you will have your classes together with the students who started in September. This is possible, as the terms within a study year can be followed independently from each other. You will have your first traineeship in the first half of your second year. For students who start in February the whole bachelor program will also take 3 or 4 years (depending on the chosen track). 6

9 International Business and Management Studies General information International Business Management & Studies (IBMS) is an English study. You learn how to seize your chances in the international range of professions; career opportunities in a job as e.g. an international consultant, export manager, sales manager or international consultant. Also you are prepared to create your own opportunities. You get to know practical business life from close by, from a scientifically solid foundation. Field of action You can start to work for smaller of larger companies - in the Netherlands or abroad - which operate on the international market. You could go and work for an international bank, a company for market research, an advertising agency or another company in business services. Of course you can also choose to start your own company. Career possibilities As a graduated IBMS-student you will have many career possibilities. You have gained wide knowledge in doing business and business administration. You also have developed useful skills to apply this knowledge. During the last term the focus will be on deepening of insight, but because of the wide scope of the IBMS-program, this doesn t exclude other interesting jobs. You are trained to be a versatile, creative mind with dynamic pragmatics in an international context. Title and certificate If you have completed your education International Business & Management Studies, you can bear the title Bachelor of Business Administration. This study is registered at the Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO) under code The official name of this study is International Business and Management Studies; this is the so-called CROHO name. CROHO stands for Centraal Register Over Hoger Onderwijsprogramma s (Central Register Concerning Higher Education Programs). You can find out more about CROHO names and accreditations on the website of the Dutch Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO): Program The IMBS-program has a wide character, because of both the contents as the challenging didactics of the classes. The first 7 terms (blocks) are mainly given at school. An important part of these terms is the (real-life) project which discusses one specific aspect of (international) business. Of course all lessons are given in English. This study offers big opportunities if you are an ambitious student who wants to excel in his study. 9

10 First year at IBMS During the first year you are introduced to the international market from the perspective of the international marketer, the international manager and the international communication manager, focusing on the client, producer, service industry and trade. Also general management skills and communicative skills (in English) are an important part of the program. In all terms you participate in a (real-life) project, to which many lessons and trainings will contribute. In these projects you will learn a lot about cooperation in an international environment. The first year is concluded by an orientating training, during which you will be working as a trainee. You are coached by a personal coach from business life. Introduction trip At the beginning of the first term, we take an introduction trip abroad. Purpose of this trip is not only to get to know your fellow students and class mates better, but also to get to know YOURSELF better. During this introduction trip Education, Pleasure, Business and Sightseeing (EPBS) will form the guideline of the program. The program will be both serious as fun and relaxing. Second year IBMS During the second year you will be training your operational skills and you will learn to approach business challenges from a strategic perspective. To achieve this, you will approach the international market from the perspective of the Financial Manager, the Export Manager and the Strategic Management Consultant. During three terms you also participate in a project regarding the start of a real company. You finish this year working as a trainee for 25 weeks, which partly overlaps the third year. In consultation with your personal coach, you are expected to give an individual interpretation of the program. Travel with us to China! During the term The Export Manager an (optional) trip to one of the growing economies (Brazil, China, and India) is part of the program. Travel with us to China, a fast developing world power. A land of opposites. From the luxurious skyscrapers in Beijing and Hong Kong to the primitive farm life of the hinterland. China, with the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Army, becomes more and more attractive to internationally working companies. Also the Chinese home market offers more and more interesting opportunities. Working as a trainee During the fourth term of the second year and the first term of the third year you work as a trainee in an international company. This traineeship is an obligatory part of het IBMS study program. From our experiences we know that working as a trainee is a perfect stepping stone to an international business career. Many of our students are being offered a job while working as a trainee. Third year IBMS During the first term of the third year you finish the obligatory traineeship. After that you focus on the specialization of your choice. You conclude the year with writing your thesis. During the whole study you get assistance from a personal coach. California trip During the third year students can participate in the California trip. During this trip you will study at California International Business University (CIBU). You will study Entrepreneurship and Business Research Methods. As part of this trip you will visit famous companies in the California region (and Silicon Valley) like Apple, Intel, Google and Disney. Dissertation (thesis) The thesis is the concluding highlight of your study. You are advising an international organization on a problem they experience or an opportunity they want to explore. You work 10

11 within a theoretical framework and carry out research in this organization in order to provide them with good advice. Using the knowledge, skills and experience you have achieved during your study, you are expected to do research, analyze data and doing specific recommendations to solve the business problem. Minors (specializations) You can choose three minors to specialize: Minor Asia Business & Trade Minor Port Management Minor Entrepreneurship These minors are given in English. Specialization Asia Business & Trade Do you want an internationally focused career? Are you interested in international management and business? Are you particularly interested in countries like China, Japan or India? Then we have a suitable study for you. An English program where you learn all the ins and outs of doing business in Asian countries. With this program, you can apply for management jobs and commercial jobs in companies that are connected with Asia. The program prepares you for jobs in purchasing and selling with Asian companies. 12 Specialization Port Management The Netherlands are the logistic centre of Europe! With transport hubs as the main port sea harbor of Rotterdam and the airport Schiphol, the Netherlands play an important part in the logistic chain. From the perspective of the Economist, the Business Manager and the Supply Chain Manager you are able to understand the part the main ports play in the international chain and their importance for the local, European and world economy. After this specialization you can apply for a job in management and logistics in international (logistic) organizations. After having finished your education, you can start to work as a: Logistic Manager Terminal Manager Export Manager Agent Specialization Entrepreneurship Are you always full of good ideas? Do have the guts and the ambition? Do you consider international business as a challenge, and are you a real entrepreneur? Then the English specialization Entrepreneurship offers you a perfect basis for a splendid career. With the knowledge and experience you obtain, you boost an existing (international) company or you start, alone or with fellow students, your own company. 13 Admission requirements IBMS To become an important player in the world market, you should be able to develop specific skills and insights. You should be flexible, motivated and think creatively. The following admission requirements apply to the IBMS degree on the bachelor level (hbo): Vwo/havo Specialization Economics & Society (EM) Specialization Nature & Engineering (NT) with a major in Economics. Specialization Nature & Health (NG) met with a major in Economics. Hbo A certificate from another bachelor education Institute, indicating you successfully finished their first year. Entry requirements for international applicants A diploma equivalent to Dutch secondary education, such as Abitur or Fachabitur (Germany), Baccalauréat (France), General Certificate of Secondary Education (UK), High School Diploma with college preparatory program (US) or SMU Diploma (Indonesia) IBMS questionnaire and motivation letter One recent passport-size photo Two copies of the identifying page of your passport Copy of your IELTS result* (aggregate of 6, minimum 5.5 for any skill) A certified copy of your certificate(s) and grade list * Only for non-dutch or non-english native applicant. Native speakers are considered to come from the following countries: Australia, Canada, Irish Republic, New Zealand, South Africa, UK, and USA. Acceptance into our program is based on the evaluation of your educational (and in certain cases your professional) background and diploma s. The Nuffic (Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education) assesses foreign degrees and certificates in terms of the Dutch system and advises us on their acceptability. However, you will need to have completed your secondary education including economics. If you do not meet these requirements, you may be accepted on the basis of the so-called 21+ test, or on a link up programme for certain topics. Intake assessment An intake assessment provides an insight into mutual expectations, both for students and for EPBS. During this assessment we also look at whether you are entitled to certain topic dispensations based on prior education or competencies gained elsewhere. We look at what motivates you to start this education in the first place. Because it is a three year education of very high intensity, this will be an important part of the intake assessment. This selection at the gate enables EPBS to continue to guarantee the high quality of education it provides for all students and their environment. Costs Please contact EPBS for this years tuition fees. The tuition fee excludes the cost of required books and course materials, which will be about 750,- a year. Student grants Students who are over 18 years old and who own the Dutch nationality are entitled to student grants and a public transport pass (OV-studentenkaart). 15 Associate degree Are you looking for an Associate degree program? With two contemporary courses, EuroPort Business School can fulfil your ambitions and talents at one place! In the Dutch educational system, an Associate degree program (Associate degree program) is offered by a university of applied sciences. The level of the program is somewhere between mbo 4 and hbo. The qualification requirements for participation in an Associate degree program are identical to the requirements of an hbo-bachelor program. Usually, an Associate degree program has a workload of 120 ECTS. It is possible to graduate in two years. The Associate degree program has been introduced to offer mbo students an additional opportunity to continue their studies at hbo level. After their graduation, mbo students are often not particularly keen on an extra four years of education. The Associate degree program International Business at EuroPort Business School is developed in close partnership with representatives from the industry. As a result, students will receive the appropriate ingredients to turn them into entrepreneurial managers who can lead or start a business. Students will finish their studies with an accredited Associate degree diploma. This diploma will greatly improve their chances on the labor market. In addition, after completing the Associate degree program, students can effortlessly progress to EuroPort s Bachelor of International Business and Management Studies. The Associate degree program provides two fields of concentration: 1. Small Business & Retail Management (SBR) 2. International Marketing Management (MM) The Associate degree program at EuroPort Business School is practical, innovative, and internationally focused. You will learn how to be successful in an international environment: in the role of a marketing assistant, an export manager, an assistant trade manager, an assistant sales manager, or a communication assistant, you will find out about global career prospects. In addition, you will learn how to create your own opportunities. You will get to know the daily practice of International Business from a close perspective. Field After your graduation from the Associate degree program, you will be working for a small or a large international company in the Netherlands or elsewhere. You can go working for an international trading company, a market research company, an advertising agency, a branch company or any other company in the retail sector. You may also decide to start your own business. Career opportunities After your graduation from the Associate degree program, you will be offered a great deal of career opportunities. You have obtained a lot of knowledge in doing business and you have developed skills to apply this knowledge. 17 First Year Associate degree During the first year, you will be introduced to the international market from the perspective of an international marketer, an international manager or an international communications manager, always with a special focus on your target group. General management and communication skills (taught in English) are an integral part of the program. Throughout your education, various modules and trainings will contribute to the (real-life) projects in which you will participate. During these projects, you will learn a lot about how to function in an international business environment. The first year ends with a ten week orientation internship. You will be supervised by a personal coach. Second Year Associate degree During the second year, you will focus on your specialization in International Marketing Management or Small Business and Retail Management. You will be working on your operational skills and learn how to identify business related issues from a tactical point of view. You will see the international market through the eyes of a Financial Manager or an Export Manager. You will also participate in a project concerning the creation of a genuine company. You will finish the program with a ten week internship and a final assignment. In close consultation with your personal coach, you will be given the opportunity to design your own curriculum. 17

18 Internships You will always do the internships mentioned above at an international company. These internships are mandatory and they form an integral part of the Associate degree program. Internships are an ideal stepping stone for an international business career. Many of our students are offered a job during their internship. The Associate degree project The Associate degree project is the culmination of your two years of study. You will solve a realistic problem in your own organization, based on the practical skills and theoretical frameworks you have obtained in the course of your training. It will be the final addition to your Associate degree program. Specializations Within the Associate degree program, you can choose two fields of concentration (both offered in English). These specializations are: International Marketing Management Small Business and Retail Management International Marketing Management Tackling and understanding commercial issues are an essential part of international marketing responsibilities in general and tactical marketing management in particular. After all, new concepts and ways of how to launch products and services are your core business. International Marketing Management is a course for forthcoming traders ; you will have to connect your organization with the outside world in order to be closer to the actual market. As a target oriented and output focused professional, you will thoroughly explore the domains of marketing and relationship management. You will find out how to apply appropriate business skills and how to implement contemporary leadership insights. You are a communicator and you will learn basically everything about sales management. At the end of each year, you will do an internship. Small Business & Retail Management Retailers want satisfied customers. The company s employees take care of that in the first place: they are at the source of the company s well-being. In order to be successful, employees must possess sufficient expertise in the form of knowledge and skills. Even so, yet another four year course can be a high threshold for potential students. EPBS s course Small Business & Retail Management provides an answer to these students hesitations. The level of the program is between mbo 4 and hbo. 18
