1 The Alignment of the PLATO Learning Curricula to TABE 9 10 Language Arts PKG pkg 1/11/2005 Copyright 2005 by PLATO Learning, Inc. All rights reserved. Printed in the United States of America. PLATO is a registered trademark of PLATO Learning, Inc. All company and product names are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective holders. INTRODUCTION PLATO Learning, Inc. combines PLATO instruction into a flexible integrated learning system to enhance instructional effectiveness in education programs. This document identifies PLATO instructional activities that are aligned to the TABE 9 10 Language Arts It is recommended that instructors review the correlation in order to fine-tune the activity to fit their education environment. Modules may be added or removed. Websites and offline activities may also be incorporated to enhance the learning path. 1 of 23

2 The following PLATO courseware was used in this alignment: Essential Reading Skills Fundamental Reading Strategies Intermediate Reading Strategies Reading for Information (Curriculum) Advanced Reading Strategies Essential Writing Process and Practice Fundamental Writing Process and Practice Intermediate Writing Process and Practice Writing in the Workplace Advanced Writing Process and Practice Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension - Information and Expository Text (US) Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension - Stories and Literature (US) NOTES TO EDUCATORS 1. The following alignment represents PLATO lessons to support study and remediation for skills on the TABE If your institution is utilizing this alignment on a PLATO Pathways (LAN) management system, missing activities may appear in some portion of your alignment. Missing activities means there is courseware that you still need or has been developed recently to support this newer version of TABE If this is the case, you should contact your local PLATO Account Manager or Curriculum Consultant for updated courseware. Once this necessary courseware is installed, you will have all lessons needed to meet this alignment, and missing activities will no longer appear. 2. Occasionally, in portions of this alignment, a lesson may appear that has also appeared in other objectives. When this is the case, it is purposeful and was included in both places in order to preserve instructional consistency. Therefore, if students choose only to complete certain objectives, they can be assured that all related lessons are included. When this is the case, instructors need to be aware that the total completed or mastered lessons in a PLATO student report may include duplicate counts because of any lessons that appear more than once. Therefore, please take this into consideration in programs where total number of completed lessons is part of a measure for reporting and/or grading. 2 of 23
