4 Activities / achievements of the Swedish National Platform Action Programme for HFA 1. DDR is a national and local priority Co-ordination between authorities, seminars, debate, articles 2. Identify, assess & monitor risks & enhance early warning Several agencies discussing climate change adaptation 3. Knowledge, innovation and education General review of the need for research for DRR for flood, forest fire, landslide. National databases of major natural occurrences. Lessons learnt. 4. Reduce the underlying risk factors Continued work by all agencies in the network 5. Strengthen disaster preparedness Training & Support to municipalities in Sweden (MSB) International Development Aid: increased staff (MSB) that can lead DRR projects. 4
5 National Platform s Added Value 16 united Director Generals have an influential voice. The platform allows the agencies to see new perspectives and meet the challenges together. Society s capacity and preparedness to handle natural events and their consequences is improved by national and international co-operation. Overview of all the DRR work accomplished by government authorities Easy access to information, research reports, project results More communication about the need for and status of DRR activities Jointly sponsored events 5
6 Swedish National Platform Goals for the Future 1) Discussions about legal mandates and gaps in responsibility. 2) Better legislation about the reimbursements after a disaster 3) Climate adaptation issues linked to network of government authorities 4) Apply the available knowledge to improve disaster management 5) Spread good practices in city planning that reduce underlying risks 6) EU research and dev. projects on prevention and early warning 7) More humanitarian assistance (preparedness, coordination of crisis information, needs analysis for capacity building, & assistance in restoration) 8) Cooperation in research, education, and lessons learned. 9) Bring new agencies into the network 10) Enhance international cooperation 6
