THE MINSTER SCHOOL A Church of England Voluntary Aided School Welcome! We are delighted that you are considering applying for a job at the Minster School in which all aspects of provision were judged to be of the very highest quality and as a result students make outstanding progress Ofsted November The information provided here can only give the briefest indication of the opportunities available to you in furthering your career here. We welcome contact from potential candidates and you will find contact details for the post you are considering in the accompanying letter. A thousand year history, 34 million new buildings, a National Teaching School The Minster School is one of the oldest continuous educational foundations in England. Tracing its origins to the establishment of Southwell Minster and the education of the choristers, The Minster School is now a highly regarded and successful all ability school. The School was designated a National Teaching School in September 2013 and is one of the first thirty Maths Hubs. Minster has many unusual features, being a cathedral choir school within the state education system and also being a comprehensive school with its own Junior Department for choristers and talented instrumentalists for 7 11 year olds. The school has International School status, in recognition of the global dimension in its curriculum. The Minster School is incredibly fortunate to be housed in relatively new buildings, designed to meet the requirements of modern education. The Heart Space of the building has proportions which mirror the nave in Southwell Minster, where the school was founded 1000 years ago. The design of the school enables a range of facilities to be used by the community outside school hours, including a recital room, 500 seat hall, 150 seat theatre and many modern sports facilities. The size of the Minster School campus makes it the largest community facility in Southwell. Our designation as a National Teaching School not only affords us additional opportunities but also places a burden of responsibility at the Minster School to support the best quality education for young people across our alliance and beyond. Head Teacher: Mr M J Parris Tel: (01636) , Fax: (01636) Nottingham Road, Southwell, NG25 0LG Web:

The Minster Teaching School Alliance (MTSA) has more than 40 members including primary, secondary and specialist education providers. There is a shared commitment to work together, supporting: high quality professional development for teachers; in-school Initial Teacher Training; school to school support; the development of the next generation of school leaders. Members of staff at the Minster School have a wide range of opportunities to develop their professional practice, through the highest quality training made available by MTSA. Additional opportunities to: support colleagues in other schools; collaborate on research and development projects; mentor those new to the profession, all support the professional development of staff. School Aspirations Ethos and Foundation The Minster School is a Voluntary Aided Church of England School, committed to the pursuit of excellence within a caring community. We have an inclusive ethos within which those of any faith and none can flourish and develop. All members of the school community develop and grow by: Learning to know acquiring a broad general knowledge, intellectual curiosity, the instruments of understanding, independence of judgement, and the impetus and foundation for being able to continue learning throughout life.. Learning to do - the competence to put what one has learned into practice, even when it is unclear how future work will evolve, to deal with many situations and to act creatively in one's environment. This involves higher skills at all levels, being able to process information and communicate with others. Learning to live together - developing understanding of and respect for other people, their cultures and spiritual values, empathy for others' points of view, understanding diversity and similarities between people, appreciating interdependence, and being able to dialogue and debate, in order to participate and cooperate with others, enhance relationships, and combat violence and conflict. Learning to be - developing the 'all-round' person who possesses greater autonomy, judgement and personal responsibility, through attending to all aspects of a person's potential - mind and body, intelligence, sensitivity, aesthetic sense and spiritual values - such that there is an understanding of the world and an ability to solve one s own problems.

We are committed, therefore, to creating an atmosphere of caring and purpose derived from commitment to moral and religious principles engendering a lifelong love of learning encouraging each child to strive for his or her best in intellectual, physical and spiritual growth helping each child to develop relationships with others which are founded on mutual respect and the pursuit of lasting happiness encouraging and developing leadership and active citizenship within the school and wider community which fosters a sense of dignity, vocation and purpose for every individual developing and maintaining excellence in teaching and learning We value imagination, curiosity and creativity self-motivation, responsibility, perseverance and pride in all aspects of achievement co-operative learning and collaborative planning the intellectual challenge that helps students experience learning as an empowering activity the central role of effective pastoral support in relation to academic, emotional and social development collective worship which is a shared and valued experience - encouraging participation and response - promoting the Christian ethos of the school - fostering a sense of community a sense of shared values, identity, outlook, ethos and purpose - reinforcing positive attitudes - familiarising students with the traditions of the Church of England - providing opportunities for students to experience various styles of worship - considering spiritual and moral issues and exploring beliefs and faith parental and community involvement each student as an individual, recognising that effective learning starts with what the learner can do. the continuing learning of all staff, in all roles, within the school

We encourage a sense of awe and wonder in students, regarding their existence and what surrounds them, irrespective of religious belief an environment that can ignite imaginations, embracing the cognitive, the experiential and the emotional the celebration of all aspects of human existence the use of drama/role playing to enable students to be someone or something different and to compare their existence with that of others the discovery of goals and aspirations the experience of art, music and literature to add depth to learning the incorporation of the natural environment into teaching and learning to build a deep respect for nature and the natural world students to feel the passion of what is being taught, raising their spirits in learning environments which are spiritually and creatively alive quiet time and periods of silence to enable students to focus on work they are doing and connect to it We strive to give high regard for the general appearance of the buildings and teaching areas the way students behave the working atmosphere the valuing and display of student work and achievement student access to all aspects of the curriculum parental and community involvement and support the quality of relationships within the school the promotion of equality of opportunity, harmony and understanding and justice within the school the way decisions are made Supporting the Inclusion Agenda The Minster school is a church school with a strong Christian ethos, and has an excellent reputation in the LA for inclusion of students with learning needs into mainstream provision. Compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act promotes strong relationships with its feeder schools and provision for all students for whom Minster would be the natural transition. The school plays a strong role in the County Arts Strategy, being a highly successful venue for touring theatre performances and also is the base for a Saturday Music School. There are excellent links with a number of local sports clubs.

The school serves a very wide rural area and will continue to make its facilities available to a wide range of users outside of the ten sessions of the formal school week. In its engagement with the community, the school works in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council. Our School in the Community Every school is part of its local community. Our school is not only one of the biggest employers in the area it has a direct impact on many of the people living in the Southwell area. The school has a strong relationship with the local community and Town Council. Students represent young people of the area on various Town Council consultation groups. There is of course our strong link with the Minster itself. This is strengthened by regular services and concerts in the Minster and by the presence of the clergy in school as part of our Chaplain team operating in support of our students. Our students are involved in many activities and organisations in the area. Through the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme our students take on voluntary work. We create a giving culture in school through regular non-uniform days and other fund raising events where the monies raised are sent to many local charities. In the last 3 years students have raised a total of over 33,000 for charity. Our students are often involved in activities in the area which benefit other people. There are good links with youth organisations in the town and some of our students foster and develop these upon their own initiative. We welcome any contacts with the school which will enhance our role in the community.
