1 Job Title: Department: Reports To: FLSA Status: Director of Development and Marketing Development Executive Director/CEO Exempt SUMMARY Reporting to the Executive Director/CEO, the Director of Development and Marketing serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all fundraising, development, marketing and public relations activities. The Director of Development and Marketing is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive plan to cultivate and develop philanthropic support, to advance the organization s brand identity, broaden awareness and increase the client base for its programs and services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major fundraising and marketing initiatives. Actively work with the CEO and senior staff to develop a comprehensive development and marketing strategy to cultivate, steward and increase individual, foundation, corporate and special event support, and to promote the increased use of League programs and services. Develop and implement an annual, strategic special events calendar that ensures the resources are utilized in a manner that provides the greatest return on investment for the League. Ensures all events are planned to capture the attention of the intended audience, sponsors and the media. Ensure articulation of the organization s wide range of programs and services and its desired image and position; assure consistent

2 communication of image and position to external audiences and throughout the organization. Oversee the editorial direction and development of all print communications, including the annual report, quarterly newsletter, marketing collateral materials and electronic communications including the organization s websites and new media. Serve as a spokesperson and primary contact on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization. Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities and prepare talking points and other supporting material as needed. Actively engage, cultivate, and manage press relationships to ensure coverage of programs, special events, public announcements and other projects. Provide strong, effective and highly visible leadership to the department team in order to capitalize on its full potential. Ensure that all employees are stimulated, motivated and guided to fully contribute to the League s mission, vision, goals and objectives. Empower employees to identify innovative approaches to enhance organization performance. Oversee the day-to-day activities of the department including budgeting, planning and staff development. Establish and monitor staff performance and goals, assign responsibilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct regular performance reviews. Continuously work to involve volunteers to increase the effectiveness of department activities. Ensure the effective and accurate management and use of the organization s donor base system. Monitor and report regularly to the CEO and board of directors on the progress of the development and marketing programs. Collaborate and cooperate with other departments within the organization Promote a culture of teamwork, high performance and continuous improvement that values learning, a commitment to quality and service to the public, League staff and volunteers throughout the organization. Work with the CEO and leadership team to develop and regularly review an organizational crisis management plan. 3 Proven track record and comprehensive knowledge of nonprofit development and marketing including special events, face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, direct marketing, donor and prospect cultivation, gift processing and acknowledgment, fundraising reporting, online fundraising and marketing, and media relations. Extensive experience in and sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program clients, and other supporters. Must be able to provide the image consistent with the League values and goals, as well as the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public. Demonstrated ability to communicate both in written and oral form; to plan, organize and direct the work of others; to gather, assemble, correlate and analyze facts and devise solutions or plans Must be detail oriented, organized, flexible, a self-starter, and work well under pressure. Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the organization; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives. Donor and constituent focused Must have strong staff management skills and supervisory experience Experience developing and managing budgets Must be computer proficient including with donor database systems. Must support the Animal Rescue League s mission, policies and practices Must be able to provide accurate information to the public at all times Must adhere to the company s dress code Must have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public Must be willing to participate in meetings with management, board, and shelter staff, to share ideas and suggestions designed to improve the organization's ability to meet its objectives Position requires working occasionally on nights and weekends. May be required to assist in animal care and handling during emergencies Must have detailed knowledge of all operations and departments of organization including, but not limited to, all systems (computers, telephone) Must have vehicle for transportation to meetings and events PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Membership in a professional fundraising association CFRE certification (Certified Fund Raising Professional) EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

4 Bachelors Degree and five or more years nonprofit development experience Possession of a valid Florida driver s license and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier COMPUTER SKILLS Proficient with donor data base management programs Microsoft Word and Excel MATERIALS and EQUIPMENT USED Computer Telephone system PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
