1 1. Prior to setup a. Develop plan for organizing cart(s) and ipads. Color, groups, numbering, naming b. Request itunes accounts from DOTS c. Request Mobile configuration from DOTS for AirSchool wireless 2. Computer configuration - (Note: itunes for Windows does not support syncing multiple ipod devices at the same time.) a. Out of box no need to image b. Basic setup - Configure wireless if needed (dpsair02); setup user (Create a new account if this is not a new computer) iphone Configuration Utility c. Run Updates (especially itunes) d. Install iphone Configuration Utility - available from smb://dpsnas01/softwaredepot/mac/ipcu e. Install Xcode - available from smb://dpsnas01/softwaredepot/mac/xcode Xcode Application 3. Organize Start spreadsheet - Record ipad Name/Cart info, Serial number, barcode, and MAC address (will be easier later from itunes/ipcu)

Setup and configure itunes library For the first time configuring the library, you can either start with an empty library, or you can have apps downloaded, as well as music, photos, books, podcasts. Items in the itunes library will be synced to the ipads in the later steps of this process. a. If not already open, open itunes. b. If this is the first time opening itunes, i. The License Agreement appears click Agree ii. Next, the itunes Splash screen will appear; close with the red circle. c. Sign into itunes Store with the school s apps account. d. If apps have already been purchased with this account, select Check for Available Downloads from the Store menu in itunes. e. Redeem codes for apps (This can also be done later.) Any apps that will be used with the ipads on this cart can be downloaded at this time. i. Click on Redeem in the quick links section ii. Enter the redemption code. The purchased app will download into the Apps section of the itunes library.

3 4. Setting up the First ipad Connect one ipad to a syncing cable connected to the computer. a. Welcome to your New ipad Click Continue b. Free Find My ipad Select Not Now c. Apple ID - Select Use my Apple ID to register my ipad. Enter the school apps and password provided. d. Click Continue e. The fields will auto fill with the information entered by DoTS. f. De-select receive s g. Click Continue.

4 h. Enter the name of the ipad i. Naming Protocol (SchoolNum-Cart#-Master ei.:xxx-blue-master) 5. Update This is important as it downloads the latest ios software to your computer as well as installs it on your ipad. a. Select update from the itunes console. b. Click Update c. Click Next on the Update information screen.

5 d. Agree to the terms. e. After the update is complete, you will see a message that the ipad will reappear after it restarts. f. Once the device reappears, quit itunes 6. ipad configuration - At this point you can configure this master ipad. a. Purchase/download Apps i. Download and install apps through the itunes Store on the computer. b. Make visual changes ii. iii. iv. Arrange desktop Create folders and organize apps Desktop picture

6 ***You will need to be connected to a network in order to set this up. DPSGuest is recommended. You should select Forget this network after configuring.*** c. Setup MobileMe account (After restoring other ipads, you will have to re-enter the password). MobileMe allows remote access to ipad if it is lost or stolen. Fifty ipads can be connected to one . i. From Settings, select Mail, Contacts, Calendar ii. iii. Select Mobile Me Account Enter the school itunes apps address and password iv. Scroll to the bottom to Agree to the License.

7 v. Tap Ok on the Locations pop-up. vi. Tap Save d. Any other changes - Before backing up, consider what should be configured on the master device. i. Appendix A -This is all of the information that will be copied in the backup.

8 7. Back up ipad This allows creating a backup of the master ipad which can be restored onto the other ipads in the carts. a. When you reconnect the ipad to the computer after configuring, it will sync which then creates a backup of the ipad. b. Backups can be managed under itunes>preferences>devices. c. To manually create a backup, right-click on the Master ipad in the device list, select Backup d. itunes will backup the device. e. Quit itunes. f. Open Terminal (Applications/Utilities) g. Copy and Paste command to Turn on Activation Only Mode i. defaults write com.apple.itunes StoreActivationMode integer 1

9 8. Activate and update other ipads Un-package other ipads and connect to ipad cables from cart, connect USB cord to computer a. (This first part may take a while minutes) ipads will activate in itunes click OK on message for each ipad. b. Once all ipads are activated, Quit itunes. c. As all ipad connect properly, the lights on the back of the cart will show green. If all lights are not green, check the plug into the ipads that are not green. d. Open Xcode e. Switch to Organizer (under Window) f. As each ipad connects, click Use for Development

10 g. Click Cancel on the Login window. h. If a message appears, click to Allow Xcode to collect information i. Click on ipad, chose the proper Software Version, and then choose Restore ipad. j. Note: It is recommended to complete updating on devices at a time. This number depends upon the computer you are using. If too many are done, Xcode may crash, and ipads will be recovery mode. k. Click Restore ipad on the popup. l. Proceed to next ipad m. Note: The ipads will be renamed a few times during the process. Also itunes will open to attempt syncing the new devices. You can ignore itunes for now. n. Once all ipads are completely updated, quit Xcode 9. Restoring ipads from the Master backup. a. Open itunes (if not already open) b. ipads will activate in itunes click through message for each ipad (Yes, you have to do it again.) c. Quit itunes

11 d. In Terminal, copy/paste command to Turn Off Activate Only Mode i. defaults delete com.apple.itunes StoreActivationMode e. Open itunes f. As the ipads appear in itunes, Select Restore ipads from backup of master ipads will restore, and then appear in the list of Devices with the same name as the backup. Apps will then be installed during the syncing process. g. Rename School number-naming protocol (record MAC address on spreadsheet)

12 10. Install Wireless Profile - The wireless profile configured by DoTS will allow the ipads to connect to the airschool network. This is the preferred network for a cart of ios devices. It can be configured manually, but using the iphone Configuration Utility is easier. a. Download wireless configuration file from sent from Site Support. b. Open iphone Configuration Utility (IPCU) c. Add the wireless config to the library (File>Add to Library) d. Browse to the file, click Open. e. Click on the device, and then select the Configuration Profiles tab. f. Install the wireless configuration on each ipad i. Install from IPCU Select the profile, and then click install g. On the ipad (The ipad can be removed from the sync cord to complete) i. Click Install, Install Now, Done on each ipad ii. iii. For the first ipad, confirm airschool setting in wireless and browsing through Safari. Repeat Steps f and g for each ipad.

13 h. Once connected to the airchool network, the MobileMe account password will have to be re-entered. 11. Finalization Due to the configuration profile, once the ipad is synced to the cart again, you may see a window requesting a password to encrypt the backup file. The easiest way around this is to enter the itunes account password twice. 12. Set Password If you see this appear, enter the itunes account password twice. Make sure to select the box for remembering the password. 13. Under itunes>preferences>devices the backup shows up with a lock indicating it is encrypted. 14. Any time you restore, you will need the password.

14 Appendix A itunes will back up the following information Address Book and Address Book favorites. App Store Application data (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder). Application settings, preferences, and data. Autofill for webpages. CalDAV and subscribed calendar accounts. Calendar accounts. Calendar events. Call history. Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with ios 4.0 and later.) Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos. In-app purchases. Keychain (this includes account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some other applications. If you encrypt the backup with ios 4 and later, the keychain information is transferred to the new device. With an unencrypted backup, the keychain can only be restored to the same iphone or ipod touch. If you are restoring to a new device with an unencrypted backup, you will need to enter these passwords again.) List of External Sync Sources (Mobile Me, Exchange ActiveSync). Location service preferences for apps and websites you have allowed to use your location. Mail accounts. Managed Configurations/Profiles. When restoring a backup to a different device, all settings related to the configuration profiles will not be restored (accounts, restrictions, or anything else that can be specified through a configuration profile). Note that accounts and settings that are not associated with a configuration profile will still be restored. Map bookmarks, recent searches, and the current location displayed in Maps. Microsoft Exchange account configurations. Network settings (saved wifi spots, VPN settings, network preferences). Nike + ipod saved workouts and settings. Notes. Offline web application cache/database. Paired Bluetooth devices (which can only be used if restored to the same phone that did the backup). Safari bookmarks, cookies, history, offline data, and currently open pages. Saved suggestion corrections (these are saved automatically as you reject suggested corrections). SMS and MMS (pictures and video) messages. Trusted hosts that have certificates that cannot be verified. Voice memos. Voic token (This is not the Voic password, but is used for validation when connecting. This is only restored to a phone with the same phone number on the SIM card). Wallpapers. Web clips. YouTube bookmarks and history.
