9 Grants for Faculty Faculty Research Grant For research in all academic disciplines at universities, libraries, archives, institutes, or labs in Germany One to three months; all disciplines 1, /month Deadlines: May 15 and November 15 Faculty-led Group Study Visit To encourage contact with academic institutions, and individuals in Germany students, 7-12 days Up to 9,000 to subsidize room & board Deadlines February 1, May 1 and November 1 groups
10 Grants for Faculty (cont. d) Short Term Lectureship For North American universities to host German scholars Host universities must provide monthly honorarium of $2,200. DAAD funds living & other costs. 1 6 months Deadlines are quarterly Visiting Professorship For German universities to host North American scholars Scholars must receive an invitation from host institution Courses need not be taught in German DAAD funds salary, living & travel costs and insurance 1 semester 2 years Deadlines January 15 & July 15

12 Grants for PhD Candidates & Post-docs (cont. d) DAAD-AICGS Summer Research Fellowship: Two month residence at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies DLR-DAAD Research Fellowship: Conduct research at Germany s national research center for aeronautics & space in the fields of space, aeronautics, energy and transportation Humboldt Research Fellowship Program: 6 12 months of funding for postdoctoral research in Germany Leo Baeck Institute DAAD Grant: Fellowships for research in Germany or in New York on the social, communal, and intellectual history of Germanspeaking Jewry. DAAD-Roche Diagnostics Postdoc Program: 1 2 years funding for advanced research placements in Roche s biotech center in Penzberg or Mannheim
13 Grants for graduating seniors, recent graduates & grad students Study Scholarship Support for one or two years of study in Germany Can be used to earn a Master s degree German language ability should be commensurate with program s need Monthly stipend of ~ 750, plus insurance and a travel stipend 70 awarded annually
14 Grants for graduating seniors, recent graduates & grad students (cont. d) RISE Professional 6 weeks to 6 month placements in industry internships with leading German companies. German language requirements depend on the internship monthly stipend, travel reimbursement and insurance Deadline: January 31 NEW: 2 week intensive language course for RISE pro participants with little or no German language skills
15 Intensive Language Courses For graduate/phd students Learn German for 8 weeks at top language institutes throughout Germany Available in any field except English, German, or other modern language or literature Must have 3 semesters of college German Lump sum of travel funds Deadline December 15 For Faculty Learn German for 4 weeks at the Goethe Institute in Germany Available in any field except German Studies/Language/ Lit/Translation Must have a basic knowledge of German Lump sum of 1700 Deadline January 31
16 For Your Students DAAD Undergraduate Scholarships Funding for study abroad, internships, or senior thesis research Previous knowledge of German not required, but advantageous 4-10 months during the German academic year 650/month + insurance & travel costs RISE - Research Internships in Science and Engineering hands-on experience in a German doctoral student s lab 6-12 weeks in summer No German required 650/month + insurance RISE in North America Host a German student in your lab for the summer
17 Tips for Success Express why a stay in Germany is critical for your academic or professional goals. Obtain a letter of invitation from a German professor or institution. Explain clearly why you chose the location or program you did. Submit quality letters of recommendations. Make sure your application is on time and complete.
