2 Theology All students are required to take Theology every year that they are enrolled in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic High School. In addition, all students are required to meet community service and yearly retreat requirements as outlined by the Administration. Theology 9 - Divine Revelation... Grade 9; REQUIRED; 1 Credit This course examines the role of divine revelation in salvation history. This course will address sacred scripture as the written revelation of God himself. This course will examine especially the Old Testament and the development of the covenant between God and his chosen people. The course also will address Jesus Christ as the human embodiment of God's word to mankind. This course follows courses I and II of the USCCB Curriculum Framework.
3 ENGLISH REQUIRED COURSE English 9 College Preparatory Composition and Selected Readings.. No Prerequisite; Grade 9; REQUIRED This course offers an in-depth study of literature including a sound pairing of both fiction and nonfiction selections with an emphasis on thematic study. Genre study will include analysis of the novel, short story, dramatic readings, and poetry as well as essays, periodicals, biographies, and autobiographies and speeches. Students will analyze selections from American, British, and World origins. Each unit of study is driven by an essential question. Students will be expected to write using a variety of modes and purposes and to incorporate age-level appropriate analytic and research skills. Additionally, students will study vocabulary with the purpose of integrating standardized testing strategies while broadening their vocabulary word base. English 9 Honors Composition and Selected Reading Prerequisite(s) Placement based on elementary school grades and standardized test scores Grade 9; Required This course offers an in-depth study of literature including a sound pairing of both fiction and nonfiction selections with an emerging emphasis on thematic study. 4 Foreign Language French I.. During the first year of French studies, students are introduced to France and to French culture as well as to many of the francophone nations of the world. With an emphasis on conversation, students will learn to describe people and places, names and colors, count, give dates, ask questions, shop and pay for their purchases, express preferences, and discuss and order foods. Emphasis will be on present tense regular and irregular verbs. French II... Prerequisite(s) Successful completion of French I taught by a secondary-certified French teacher This course is a continuation of French grammar, vocabulary building and intensive study of francophone culture. Themes will include nationalities, cities and home, sports, games, music, conversing with friends, shopping, clothing, jobs and money, and weekend and vacation activities. Grammar topics include ir, -re, avoir, aller, venir, mettre, stem changing verbs, present, immediate future, and past tenses, possessive adjectives, using/differentiating between definite/indefinite articles, adjectives and placement, prepositions, ordinal numbers, interrogative and demonstrative adjectives. Spanish I... In the first year of Spanish studies students will use all four language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Studies will include Hispanic culture and history. Students will also produce formal and informal communication as they study the present tense. Students will converse on topics of personal interest, likes and dislikes, characteristics, and home and school life. Spanish II. Prerequisite Successful completion of Spanish I taught by a secondary-certified Spanish teacher Students will continue to learn other present tense formations as they discuss travel, daily routines and commands. They will also produce formal and informal communication and be able to talk about the past using the preterite and imperfect, as well as expand cultural knowledge through a variety of media.

CP Algebra I... Topics include variables; grouping symbols; equations, translating sentences into equations; translating problems into equations and solving; the number line; what are opposites; absolute values; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers; commutative, associative, distributive, and identity properties; solving equations; exponents; adding, subtracting and multiplying polynomials; transforming formulas; factoring; simplifying algebraic fractions; working with equations in two variables; linear equations, including calculation of slope and writing the equation of a line. Algebra I Honors.. Prerequisite(s) - Placement based on elementary school grades and standardized test scores The topics covered in this fast-paced class include adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing real numbers, polynomials, rational algebraic expressions, solving equations, factoring, graphing, and problem solving. Algebra II Honors... Prerequisites Successful completion of Algebra I in 8 th grade Graphing Calculator Required. This fast-paced class builds on and deepens concepts from previous math courses. It provides students with foundations in fundamental operations with algebraic expressions, linear and quadratic equations, polynomials, systems of equations, factoring, functions, and solution of linear inequalities. This course will include graphing, complex numbers, and solution of radical equations.
6 Science All students are required to have three years of lab science for graduation. recommended course sequence is: The Freshman Year: CP Biology I or Biology I Honors Sophomore Year: CP Physics I or Physics I Honors Junior Year: CP Chemistry or Honors Chemistry B Senior Year: Elective CP Biology I (a laboratory science) This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of the study of life. The course includes the study of cellular structure and function, the form and function of plants and animals, and basic ecological principles. Biology I Honors (a laboratory science).. Prerequisite(s) - Placement based on elementary school grades and standardized test scores This course is designed to give students a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of the study of life. The course is similar in content to CP Biology; however, topics are investigated in more detail. It also includes various required writing assignments, research projects, and extended laboratory investigations in addition to the regular course load. The class is specifically designed to give students an idea of what would be involved should they be interested in a career in science.
7 Other Course Choices Digital Technologies..... This course teaches skills needed to prosper in today s digital world. The focus of the class will be split between advanced MS Office work, responsible digital citizenship, and familiarizing the student with various forms of digital communication including collaboration tools and multimedia visual presentations tools such as imovie and Prezi. Choir..... This class is open to all students who like to sing and who enjoy performing. The class will offer many styles of music including contemporary, pop, traditional, sacred, and secular, to name a few. Foundations in Studio Art..... This course provides instruction in the essential fundamentals of drawing, painting and composition through application of the elements and principles of design as well as an introduction to art history and art analysis. Students will also be introduced to graphic design and the media arts while exploring formal and expressive aspects using a variety of styles and subject matter. Students will have the opportunity to develop creativity, non-verbal communication, and personal artistic skills. Health and Physical Education.... The goal of this course is to introduce students to fitness and conditioning through physical education with an emphasis on fine motor skills. These skills are important in most physical activity as well as in life in general. Other areas covered, but not limited to, include: teamwork, listening skills, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and an introduction to strength training and the Presidential Fitness Program. World Geography In this course students will analyze the ways in which geography impacts the many facets of today s world. Geography is more than just places on a map, its global connections and international relations; its people and cultures, economics and politics. It is an essential component to understanding our interconnected world.
