3 Class Descriptions Showmanship -designed to judge the showmanship skills of the exhibitors. Judges evaluate the grooming and fitting of the horse and expertise of the exhibitor in presenting the horse. Each exhibitor is required to perform a pattern designed by the Judge with emphasis on preciseness of pattern and degree of confidence exhibited by the showman. English Equitation -Tests ability to ride not the performance of the horse. To be judged as they travel the perimeter of the arena performing gait changes at the judge s discretion. Emphasis is placed on ability to sit correctly, hold the correct riding posture and control the horse on a precise pattern. English Pleasure -A preliminary class for English riding disciplines in which judges evaluate on the flat, at a walk, trot and canter. Emphasis is placed on smoothness of gait, free-flowing stride and willingness to perform. Exhibitors must wear traditional English attire. Western Pleasure -Contestants compete simultaneously, traveling the perimeter of the arena, and at the discretion of the judge, are asked to walk, jog, lope and reverse the direction of the horse. Horses are evaluated on quality of movement while staying quiet and calm, and traveling on a loose rein. Western Horsemanship (Equitation) -Designed to test the horsemanship abilities of riders using western tack. Participants will ride as a group around the perimeter of the arena. Judging focuses on the rider s body position, seat in the saddle and ability to control the horse on a precise pattern. Cross Rail Hunter Over Fences - these classes are for the first timers, first time horse or rider over fences at a show. Low inviting cross rails. Courses will be posted. Novice Hunter Over Fences - 2 feet maximum, made up of cross rails, some small verticals, but no oxers. Open to Jr. and Sr. riders, horses and ponies. Shown over a course of 8-10 small verticals and oxers. Fences may be approached in either trot or canter. Emphasis will be placed on: 1) horses ridden in a safe, controlled manner, 2) a correct and effective path to and away from the fences, 3) safe jumping style. Low Hunter Over Fences to 2 6 maximum, made up of verticals and oxers. Open to Jr. and Sr. riders, horses and ponies. Shown at a canter over a course of 8-10 hunter type fences. Distances will not be adjusted for ponies. Beginner Hunter Over Fences maximum, will have verticals and oxers. Open to Jr. and Sr. riders, horses and ponies. Shown at a canter over a course of 8-10 hunter type fences. Distances will not be adjusted for ponies. All Working Hunter Under Saddle - To be shown at a walk, trot, canter both ways of the ring. May be asked to gallop. To show in this class a competitor must have successfully completed at least one over fences class in the division entered. Green Horse - Horses in their first two years of showing under saddle no riders under 16

4 SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Entries close August 07, 2013 (note: post entries will be accepted the day of the show). 2. The show will be held rain or shine, beginning at 9am sharp. 3. Entries may be dropped off at the stable or mailed/ ed to: Kelly Northrup 132 Hammond River Road Quispamsis, NB E2E 4Z8 Call: We reserve the right to refuse any entry to this show and excuse exhibitors from the show grounds. Anyone showing disrespect or misconduct will be asked to leave the show grounds, forfeiting all fees paid. The show committee reserves the right to decide what behavior will constitute expulsion from the show grounds. 5. Entry forms and waivers must be signed by the exhibitor or the parent/guardian in the case of a junior exhibitor (ages 18 & under). 6. Please make all cheques payable to Dan Northrup Training Stables 7. New Brunswick Show Series points will be awarded for the following classes: a. Showmanship b. Senior & Junior English and Western Pleasure and Equitation c. Walk/Trot English and Western Pleasure and Equitation d. Cross Rail Hunter (includes associated flat class) e. Novice Hunter (includes associated flat class) f. Low Hunter (includes associated flat class) 8. Championship ribbons for the day will be awarded in each of the hunter divisions. 9. Ribbons will be handed out to 6 th place in each class. 10. Series points will be awards as follows: 1 st place = 7 points 2 nd place = 5 points 3 rd place = 4 points 4 th place = 3 points 5 th place = 2 points 6 th place = 1 point 11. No stallions are permitted at this show. 12. All exhibitors must be members of their provincial association which can now be paid online at Proof of insurance must accompany your entry (photocopies will be accepted). 13. All riders 18 & under must wear an ASTM/SEI approved helmet at all times while mounted on the show grounds. 14. Exhibitor numbers must be worn at all times while on the show grounds. 15. The judges decision is final. 16. Exhibitor ages will be as of January 01, 2013 and must be shown on the entry form. 17. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to ready when your class is called. You will be given three calls and if you are not ready by the third call you will be eliminated from the class. 18. The show office will be open at 7:30am. Please have your forms filled out properly before entering the show office. 19. The show committee, staff of Dan Northrup Training Stables, show volunteers and/or sponsors do not assume any responsibility for accidents or illness to horses, attendants, riders, spectators, or any other person on the property or for the loss of, or damage to, any equipment or personal belongings while attending the show.

5 20. The Command classes are walk/trot/canter (or jog/lope). Therefore, Small Fry & Walk Trot exhibitors are not eligible to enter these classes. 21. There will be no cross entering between the Small Fry Division & the Junior Division. 22. The Small Fry Division is Walk/Trot/Jog only. Therefore, cross entering between Small Fry & the jumping divisions is prohibited. 23. There will be no cross entering between the Walk/Trot Division (flat classes) & any other division. 24. Cross entering between English & Western is permitted. 25. All Hunter Under Saddle classes will call for walk/trot/canter on the rail, but the over fences classes can be trotted or cantered per the class descriptions listed on page Please note: the Small Fry Division is NOT pointed as part as the Southern NB Fun Show Series. 27.
