3 TRIP EXPECTATIONS: Please review this information as a family. It is imperative that students understand what is expected of them when traveling as representatives of our school and community. When we travel as the NWSS Music Department, we are ambassadors of our school, community and, if traveling outside Canada, our country. It is expected that students will be expected to behave in a manner that reflects the expectations of the community of New Westminster. This includes: Respecting the school rules and code of conduct. ( Obeying the strict rule of no drugs and/or alcohol. It is essential that students understand that this is a very serious offense and if they consume alcohol or drugs they will be sent home at their parent s expense. Using polite language at all times to those in our group as well as the general public and hotel/venue staff. Being courteous to those giving instructions. Listen and follow instructions carefully. Being aware that there are other hotel guests: no hanging out in the hallways or in rooms with the doors open. Speak quietly in the halls/rooms. Be extra quiet after 11pm. Respecting schedules and showing up on time in the correct location Respecting assigned curfews. No students are to open their door or be in another student s room after curfew. Breaking curfew is an extremely serious offense and will result in a phone call home to parents as well as increased supervision and decreased freedom and autonomy for the rest of the trip. Using the Buddy System at all times: always be in a group of 2 or more. Stay on main streets and pay attention to where you are. Watching personal possessions carefully. You are responsible for them. The school, chaperones and teachers will not be held accountable for missing items. Seeking out a chaperone if a problem arises. Carrying the name, address, and phone number of the hotel with you at all times. This can be found on the itinerary above. School rules are in effect during school trips, including rules regarding the use of drugs or alcohol. If a student is involved with drugs and/or alcohol, is physically abusive, breaks the law or jeopardizes the group s safety, the student will be sent home IMMEDIATELY at the parent s expense. In addition, students who choose to use drugs or alcohol on a school trip will face suspension from school upon their return and will be exempt from receiving any scholarships connected with the music department. 3
