Your RadioShack FM Stereo Transmitter lets you play compact discs using your CD player and hear them using any portable, car, or home FM stereo receiver. Because it transmits an FM signal, the transmitter requires no wiring or permanent installation, making its use quick, easy, and convenient. Its features include: Compact Size lets you carry it anywhere. Low Power-Consuming Circuitry provides up to 100 hours of operation on two AAA batteries. Crystal-Controlled Circuit provides clear, drift-free operation. Four Selectable Frequencies let you select the frequency that operates best in your environment. To determine whether your transmitter is causing the interference, turn off your transmitter. If the interference goes away, your transmitter is causing it. Try to eliminate the interference by: Moving your transmitter away from the TV or other radio's receiver Contacting your local RadioShack store for help If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires that you stop using your transmitter. This device complies with part 15 of FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following conditions. This device must not cause harmful interference, and This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. PREPARATION Installing Batteries Your transmitter requires two AAA batteries (not supplied) for power. For the best performance and longest life, we recommend RadioShack alkaline batteries. 2

Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. Follow these steps to install batteries. 1. Slide POWER to OFF. 2. Press down on the battery compartment cover and slide it off in the direction of the arrow. 3. Place the batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and ) marked inside. 4. Replace the cover. When the transmitter stops operating properly, replace the batteries. Warnings: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not burn or bury them. Caution: If you do not plan to use the transmitter for two weeks or more, remove the batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts. 3

4 a.fm Page 4 Wednesday, March 22, :37 PM Connecting to a Compact Disc Player If your compact disc player has a line-out jack, you can insert the transmitter's 1 /8-inch plug into it. Notes: When you connect the transmitter to the CD player's line-out jack, set the volume using the receiver's volume control, not the CD player's volume control. Also, some CD players' output level is either too high or too low at the line-out jack. If it is too high, the sound might be distorted. If it is too low, the sound might be too noisy. If this happens, connect the transmitter's plug to the headphone jack instead. If your compact disc player does not have a line-out jack, you can connect the transmitter's plug to the headphone jack. Note: For the best sound when you connect the transmitter to the CD player's headphone jack, set the volume using the CD player's volume control, not the receiver's volume control. 4

5 a.fm Page 5 Wednesday, March 22, :37 PM OPERATION With the transmitter connected to a CD player, you can hear the CD player's output sound from any FM radio or receiver. 1. Slide POWER to ON to turn on the transmitter. 2. Extend the wire antenna to its full length for better transmission. 3. Turn on the receiver and the CD player. 4. Refer to the table below and set the transmitter's two frequency switches to the frequency you want to use. Tune the radio or receiver to the same frequency you chose in Step 4. You hear the CD player through the receiver. Try 5

Note: For the best sound when you connect the transmitter to the CD player's headphone jack, follow these guidelines: Tune the receiver to an FM broadcast so you can adjust the receiver's volume control to the desired level. Then tune the receiver to the same frequency as you chose in Step 4. Adjust the CD player's volume control so the receiver's volume is the same as before. 6. Adjust the receiver's volume control (not the CD player's) to the desired level. 7. Set STEREO/MONO to STEREO for stereo sound. Set STEREO/ MONO to MONO if the sound is monaural, weak, or noisy. 8. Set POWER to OFF to turn off the transmitter. Notes: Always set POWER to OFF when you are not using your transmitter. When a received signal is weak or noisy, move the transmitter closer to the receiver's antenna. Some compact disc players emit noise. If the received signal is not weak but is noisy, move the transmitter as far as possible away from the compact disc player. 6

7 a.fm Page 7 Wednesday, March 22, :37 PM CARE To enjoy your RadioShack FM Stereo Transmitter for a long time: Keep the transmitter dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use and store the transmitter only in normal temperature environments. Handle the transmitter gently and carefully. Do not drop it. Keep the transmitter away from dust and dirt. Wipe the transmitter with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Modifying or tampering with the transmitter s internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your transmitter is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance. SPECIFICATIONS Modulation... RadioShack will, at its option, unless otherwise provided by law: (a) correct the defect by product repair without charge for parts and labor; (b) replace the product with one of the same or similar design; or (c) refund the purchase price. All replaced parts and products, and products on which a refund is made, become the property of RadioShack. New or reconditioned parts and products may be used in the performance of warranty service. Repaired or replaced parts and products are warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period. You will be charged for repair or replacement of the product made after the expiration of the warranty period. This warranty does not cover: (a) damage or failure caused by or attributable to acts of God, abuse, accident, misuse, improper or abnormal usage, failure to follow instructions, improper installation or maintenance, alteration, lightning or other incidence of excess voltage or current; (b) any repairs other than those provided by a RadioShack Authorized Service Facility; (c) consumables such as fuses or batteries; (d) cosmetic damage; (e) transportation, shipping or insurance costs; or (f) costs of product removal, installation, set-up service adjustment or reinstallation.
