2 How to use this Excel 2013 Charts and Graphs Video Course Watch the Overview Video first, making notes if you wish. Note the videos have sound, so you will need to use headphones / speakers Each of the Exercise Videos cover the skills needed to do a specific exercise, so watch a video, then do the exercise that goes with it. Some exercises build on previously used skills, so working through the exercises in the order they are in this document will work best. The exercise instructions are listed in this book. 3 Clustered Column Charts Using the data on the Column sheet create a 2D Clustered Column chart using the data for deaths resulting from Dependence on drugs only. NOTE: make sure to select the both the Regions and the data in the Dependence on drugs column before inserting your chart (use CTRL). Do not include the totals. 2. Add a chart title (above chart) that reads Deaths Due to Drug Dependence for London (2011). 3. Add a horizontal axis title that reads Region and a vertical axis title that reads Number of Deaths. 4. Add data labels. 5. Using the Select Data option, reselect the data omitting the two regions with no drug deaths (i.e. City of London and North London) 6. Change the background of the chart to light green. HINT: Right click in the top right corner of your chart and select Format Chart Area, then select the solid fill and change the colour to light green. 4 Pie Charts Using the data on the Pie sheet create a Pie Chart representing the deaths in Inner South London for all age groups. 2. Click and drag the section of the pie representing the year age group slightly outside the pie. 3. Change the chart layout to include the percentages inside the pie and the legend on the right (HINT: Style 3 in the Chart Styles) 4. Change the title of the chart to Age of Deceased at Death (Inner South London, 2011). 5. Click ONCE on one of the data labels (HINT: those are the percentage values), right click and select Format Data Labels. Change the label position to the Outside End. 6. Change the fill colour of the data labels to dark grey. 7. Click TWICE on the piece of the pie that you have dragged to the side, right click and select Format Data Point. Change the fill to Picture or texture fill and change the texture to fish fossil. Your chart should look like this: 8. Save your practice file. 5 Scatter Chart with Trendline 1. Using the data on the Scatter sheet create a Scatter graph using only the data for the live births between 35 weeks gestation to 41 weeks gestation (see below). 2. Insert a title for your chart called Live Births by Gestational Age (weeks) in England and Wales (2009). Change the size of the font in your title to 11 point and change the font to Corbel. 3. Change the axis values to Font Corbel size 11 point as well. 4. Right-click on one of the data points (i.e. the blue circles) and select Format Data Series. Under Marker Options click Built-in and change the marker to a diamond, size 7, and make the diamonds dark red. 5. Now select Marker Fill and change the fill to a solid dark red colour and select no border. 6. Right-click on one of the data points again and select Add Trendline. 6 Line Chart with Error Bars 1. Using the data on the Line sheet use functions to calculate the Mean (Average) and 2SD (two Standard Deviations) for each year using the values for the 5 London Regions only. 2. Select only the mean values and insert a 2D Line Graph. If Excel displays a legend, delete it. 3. Click on the horizontal value labels, then right-click and Select Data. Edit the Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels and select 1996, 2001, 2005 and 2009 at the top of the table. 4. Add a title One-year age-standardise net survival (%) by year of diagnosis to your line graph. Change the size of the title font to Change your line colour to green. 6. 7 7. The error bars should be set to display in both directions. Click on Custom under the Error Amount and click Specify Value. 8. To specify the values, click on the red arrow below Positive Error Value, then select by clicking and dragging through the 2 Standard Deviation values. Repeat for Negative Error Value. 9. Change the colour of your error bars to red and the width to 2 pt. Your graph should look like this: 10. Save your practice file. 8 Combination Charts on Two Axes 1. Using the data on the Combo sheet create a 2D Clustered Column Chart using the data in the columns for Year, Number of deaths (M), and Percentage change (M). 2. Choose Combo Chart on Two Axes as the chart type. 3. Give the chart the title Age-standardised suicide rates for males, United Kingdom Change the font size of the title to Give the Primary Vertical Axis the name Number of Deaths. 5. Move the legend to the bottom of the chart. 6. Go to Axis Titles and name the Secondary Vertical Axis Title % Change. Your chart should look like this: 7. Save your practice file.
