1 CONSTITUTION Buffalo State College Fashion Student Association PREAMBLE: We, the students of the Fashion Student Association at the State University College of New York at Buffalo, committed to the goals and ethics of the American Association for Textile Technology, hereby establish this ARTICLE I: NAME: The name of the organization shall be the Fashion Students Association (F.S.A.) ARTICLE II: PURPOSE: The purpose of the Fashion Student Association is: To promote the increase of knowledge of the field of Textile Technology, including Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising To encourage in any practical way research work on materials of importance to any Textile, Apparel Design, and Fashion Merchandising student. To provide leadership opportunities and information on potential careers to the members. To participate in community activities. To provide students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in today s fashion industry. To encourage members of the Fashion Student Association to develop interest in a career in the fashion industry. ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP: Each activity fee-paying student of the State University College at Buffalo is eligible to become a member of the Fashion Student Association. 1. A student must attend three consecutive general interest meetings to become an official member. 2. All members may participate in all events and activities sponsored by the association. Members also have the privilege to give input in all events and programs. 3. All members are eligible for run for open positions on the executive board. Members also have voting rights in public elections. ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS: The officers of the Fashion Student Association shall be President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Relations, Public Awareness, Fashion Awareness, Historian and Programs/Events Coordinator. These officers shall perform the duties prescribed by these laws:

2 1. At the last Executive board meeting held in the month of May, nominations for officers for the proceeding year shall occur. 2. Any activity fee-paying student at Buffalo State College is eligible to seek election as an officer of the Fashion Student Association. 3. The President will be a member of the junior or senior class or a graduate student. 4. All candidates must have at least a 2.5 GPA to be eligible for election. Elections will take place for open positions only. 5. An officer may keep their position until the end of the academic year, unless they are dismissed from organization due to violation of organization laws and agreements. 6. Elections for Public Relations, Fashion Awareness, and Programs/Events Coordinator shall take place at a private E-board meeting. 7. If in any instance, there is an open position for President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary in the middle of an academic year, elections shall be held privately during an executive board meeting. 8. In case of public elections, the officers shall be elected by ballot by the voting membership of the association. 9. President and Vice President may hold their positions for up to two academic years without re-election. 10. Officers (excluding President and Vice President) shall serve up to one year or until their successors are elected, unless they run for re-election and their term of office shall begin in May. 11. No officer shall hold more than one office at a time. THE DUTIES OF OFFICES SHALL BE AS FOLLOWS: PRESIDENT: 1. Shall be the official representative of the organization 2. Shall make executive decisions with or without the aid of Vice President for the good of the 3. Shall serve as the speaker of the Executive Board 4. Shall have the power to act on behalf of the association in cases of emergency. 5. Shall delegate duties to a vice- president. 6. Shall appoint a vice-president to a serve as acting president until chairperson is able to resume duties 7. Sign with treasurer all official papers. 8. Work with vice-president in formulating meeting agendas 9. Shall chair all general membership meetings 10. Shall give a general report on meeting committees. 11. Shall be a voting member of the general membership in cases of a tie. VICE PRESIDENT: 1. Shall perform the duties of the President in the absence or inability of the president.

3 2. In case of resignation or dismissal of the president, the vice president shall assume the position. 3. Shall be a voting member of the general membership 4. Shall be executive chairperson of all existing committees. 5. Shall work with the President in understanding and interpreting all phases of work between themselves and each chair member. TREASURER: 1. Shall receive, hold and disburse an order of the association account for all funds 2. Make monthly and annual reports of receipts, disbursements and fund balances of the association. 3. Shall guide the executive committee in preparation of the budget. 4. Shall be a voting member of the general membership 5. Shall present the annual proposed budget to the association for approval. SECRETARY: 1. Shall take and post for reading accurate minutes of the general membership meetings. 2. Shall serve as a custodian of all records and official paper as may be placed in his/her care. 3. Shall be a voting member of the general membership. 4. Work with chairs and other officers in receiving, evaluating and preparing reports. 5. Shall care for correspondence as directed to the association. 6. Shall update members of the Fashion Student Association upcoming meetings, events and Executive Board meetings. 7. Shall take attendance every executive meeting and General Interest Meeting 8. Shall keep an accurate up to date roll of voting membership between E-board members. Must also keep accurate membership General Interest Population. PUBLIC RELATIONS: 1. Shall serve as the communicating voice between the Fashion Student Association and Buffalo State College student body. 2. Shall continuously strive to recruit members for the Fashion Student Association. 3. Shall make flyers and have them posted throughout Buffalo State College when appropriate. 4. Shall be a voting member of the general membership. 5. Shall be responsible for any paraphernalia used to advertise the Fashion Student Association including tee shirts, posters, pens, etc. 6. Shall work to create a monthly bulletin board that will advertise the organization and what programs it has to offer.

4 PUBLIC AWARENESS 1. Shall work in collaboration with Public Relations to promote the organization to the student body 2. Shall aid in creating flyers and any promotional material specific to the 3. Shall work with Public Relations to create monthly bulletin board. FASHION AWARENESS: 1. Shall act as an information source on current fashion industry news and trends for members 2. Shall create general interest meeting agendas for membership 3. Shall inform membership about fashion related opportunities and career options PROGRAMS/EVENTS COORDINATOR: 1. Shall serve as the second communicating voice between the organization and the student body. 2. Shall secure classrooms for the Fashion Association programs and events and also secure tables during Bengal Pause. 3. Shall help in the coordination and confirmation of the organization Programs or Events. 4. Shall be committee chair that takes care of the reserving of rooms for the 5. Shall be a voting member of the general membership. 6. Shall be in charge of filling out Activity Report Forms for the 7. Shall work closely with different organizations to see how to better promote the HISTORIAN 1. Shall be responsible for the any publications (online or print) regarding the ARTICLE V: MEETINGS AND QUORUM: 1. General Interest meetings shall be for the purpose of discussing fashion topics, current events, and creative activities with members. 2. General Interest meetings shall be held once a week during Bengal Pause. ARTICLE VI: EXECUTIVE BOARD: The executive board consists of the officers and chairpersons in the Fashion

5 Student Association. ARTICLE VII: EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETINGS: 1. Executive Board meetings shall be for the purpose of discussing business, duties, and finances of the 2. All meetings are mandatory. 3. A meeting shall be held at least once every week. 4. Executive board members shall deal with the matters of concerns to the members of the Fashion Student Association. 5. The executive board shall constitute quorum. 6. The secretary shall keep a written record of executive board actions. 7. If an officer is absent from more than three consecutive meetings without an acceptable unexcused absence, the remaining officers shall declare his/her seat on the executive board vacant. This should be included in the minutes. 8. All minutes from every meeting shall be placed in a binder and ready for audit at any time. 9. All executive board meetings are open to other student organization officers interested in collaborating with the Fashion Student Association; however they must notify the President at least a week beforehand. ARTICLE VIII: ADVISOR: The association s advisor shall volunteer and be approved by the general membership of the association. There shall be no more than two advisors. That advisor shall serve a term until a new volunteer takes the position. ARTICLE IX: REMOVAL: The removal of any member shall be defined by procedures under the association s parliamentary authority. Each member s right to due process shall be recognized and respected. ARTICLE X: AMENDMENTS: Any member of the association shall have the privilege of proposing in writing an amendment to this Constitution. The proposed amendment must be present in writing and voted on no earlier than one week following its introduction. The amendments are subject to the approval of two-thirds of the members. Amendments are not binding until approved by the U.S.G. Senate. ARTICLE XI: PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY: The Fashion Student Association shall follow Robert s Rules of Order. ARTICLE XII: RATIFICATION:

6 This constitution shall be ratified by an affirmative vote of a simple majority of the association s members, and a two-thirds vote of approval by the U.S.G. Senate.
