3 Curriculum Update Toddler Program The Toddlers hopped into Spring during March! They noticed many changes outside; Quinn called for everyone to come feel the wall of the Day Care and she was very pleased to tell us it was warm from the Sun. Sebastian found a spider on the wall and all the children enjoyed holding him and watching him crawl on the ground. We all pretended to be spiders crawling along the ground; we had so much fun! We all noticed the Seagulls in the field and a little Chickadee in our playground tree. Brynnlee said, listen and pointed to her ear. All our friends followed her and pointed to their ear and talked very quietly. Easter and Bunnies were a great interest to the Toddlers and provided many learning opportunities; We counted and sorted coloured Easter eggs, played a Bunny Toss game, decorated hard boiled eggs and ate them for snack YUM! The favourite activity was our Easter Piñata. The children decorated the piñata and took turns hitting the piñata with a stick. Archer especially enjoyed whacking it with the stick until all the candy came out! Mr. John Reader entertained us with his guitar and sang songs but the highlight of the day was a visit from the Easter Bunny who gave us many treats! Curriculum Update Preschool Program We have had so much fun learning about animals. The children are enjoying dressing up in animal costumes and masks. Diane created a cardboard Zoo for all our little animals to visit. They working hard on balancing on the Elephant Can Feet, learning what animals live in the Jungle or the Forest and the Seas. The Easter Bunny came for a visit; Mr. Reader visited and sang songs with us and we coloured Easter eggs. Spring is here and we are having fun riding our bikes, going for walks and enjoying the warmer weather.

6 Lice Information Lice Have 3 Stages the egg (nit), the nymph and the adult. Nits are whitish-grey, tan or yellow ovals, approximately the size of a grain of sand. They stick to the hair close to the scalp and can look like dandruff. Nits hatch in 9 to 10 days. Nymphs are baby lice. They look like adult lice but are smaller. Adult lice are approximately the size of a sesame seed and are hard to see. Adult lice can live for up to 30 days on a person s head, but they die within 3 days away from the scalp. How is Lice Spread? Head lice spread through direct hair-to-hair contact or indirectly by sharing things like hats, combs, hairbrushes and headphones. Head lice spread easily especially where people are in close contact. They are very common among school-aged children or children attending child care. Head lice don t fly or hop, but do crawl very quickly. Head lice that live on people can t live on pets, such as cats or dogs. How to Treat Lice Lice can be treated with over the counter treatments (NIX, NYDA, Nit Combs & home remedies) and repeat the treatment after 7 to 10 days. Do not treat anyone with a head lice product unless you find lice in their hair. Check all family members if someone in the house has head lice. Remember to clean bedding, vacuum carpets, mattresses, launder clothing, Some people use home remedies such as mayonnaise, petroleum jelly, olive oil, vinegar or margarine. Although these products may make it hard for lice to breathe, they probably won t kill them. There is no evidence that products such as tea tree oil or aromatherapy work to treat head lice. Wash the items in hot water and dry in a hot dryer for 15 min; or Store the items (stuffed toys, pillows that cannot be washed, blankets etc) in an airtight plastic bag for 2 weeks. Please understand that after lice has been discovered, it is important to let the daycare know so we can take the appropriate steps to prevent spreading. If lice is discovered at daycare, children must be picked up and treated before returning. Children must receive a lice treatment and ALL nits must be removed from the child s head prior to returning to daycare. Children will have their heads rechecked by daycare staff prior to returning to daycare.
