1 "CHAPMANS" IN THE 1850 CENSUS OF VIRGINIA THIS DATA HAS NOT BEEN VERIFIED BY A SECOND CFA VISIT TO THE MICROFILM. Data extracted as indicated by family. Computer input by Gil Alford. Arranged by county, page, house, and family as enumerated. For most subjects the age is expressed in years immediately after the sex entry. In some cases - particularly with infants - the age is expressed in months in which case the age column is blank. The age- when expressed in months is in the seldom used column immediately after age. CYOB or circa year of birth is not from the census. It has been added to this draft to assist CFA researchers. It was calculated by the computer by subtracting age from Color is shown after the circa year of birth. It is assumed to be white unless otherwise specified. Birthplace is shown with the approved postal abbreviations for states in the U.S. Foreign places were abbreviated as follows: UN = Unknown, EN = England GE = Germany, IR = Ireland, SC = Scotland, etc.. In 1850 the Federal Census began to collect much more information than in any previous census. Some of the data is in information columns after BP. The information is coded as follows: S = in school this year. M = married in the census year. R = can't read and/or write (in some cases the enumerator indicated they could not write and that is shown with a W). Column headings not meant to line up exactly over the data but rather to give position relationship FIRST NAME LAST NAME SEX AGE AGE CYOB COL BP M S R PROPERTY OCCUPATION MOS REAL $ Micro film: Series M432, Roll 956 Page House Family Edward Chapman Polly "Mary" Chapman John R.
