2 Objectives with Measures of Success. Reading 1. By September, free and reduced lunch eligible students reading scores will increase by 15% as evidenced by the Adequate Yearly Progress Report. 2. By September, African American students reading scores will increase by 13% as evidenced by the Adequate Yearly Progress Report. 3. By September, students with disabilities reading scores will increase by 35% as evidenced by the Adequate Yearly Progress Report. Math 1. By September, free and reduced lunch eligible students math scores will increase by 15% as evidenced by the Adequate Yearly Progress Report. 2. By September, African American students math scores will increase by 18% as evidenced by the Adequate Yearly Progress Report. 3. By September, students with disabilities math scores will increase by 31% as evidenced by the Adequate Yearly Progress Report. 2
3 Component: READING Component Manager: Jeff Castle Strategies Classroom teachers will administer the MAP assessment three times per year as a universal screening to determine the students in need of reading intervention. Responsible Person Principals / Assistant Superintend ent Start & End Dates Cost/ Funding Source $75,000 General Fund Implementation Status Report to SBDM Council Fully Partially Not Implementation and Impact Notes Classroom teachers will administer AIMSweb progress monitoring probes to determine growth goal lines and to monitor progress in reading. Classroom Teachers $6500 General Fund Teachers and principals will convene in Student Success Teams (SSTs) at the school level to discuss progress of students identified as being in the achievement gap for reading. Principals (monthly) Principals will meet monthly in a district SST meeting to discuss progress in implementing reading intervention programs. All teachers will meet during the summer to revise reading curriculum maps at all levels and begin work on district common assessments. Dept. June 2009 to $1000 for food PD 3
4 EL, MS, and HS teachers will meet during school and afterschool to finish district common assessments in reading. March $5000 for subs / Title I and Teachers will begin working on the development of reading curriculum maps for the 2011 school year based on new Kentucky Core Academic Standards (KCAS). Dept. February to June $5000 for subs / Deferred New teachers will attend training on research-based instructional strategies in reading (Survey Technique, Concept Definition Mapping, Anticipation Guides, Question- Answer Relationships). May $2000 for Kindergarten through fifth grade teachers will participate in how to deliver Guided Reading instruction (Fountas and Pinnell) as core reading instruction. May $1500 for subs / Title I PD Middle school teachers will attend training on how to use guided reading (Fountas and Pinnell) as Tier 1 intervention. October 2009 Marc h $1500 for Elementary teachers will attend training on Balanced Approach (Building Blocks, Four Blocks, Big Blocks). to April $1500 for Title I PD 4
5 Middle and High School teachers will participate in training on the use of reading intervention programs for high school students (Jamestown Reading, The Edge, etc.). Textbook to March $2000 for All teachers (EL, MS, HS) will be trained on research-based intervention strategies using KDE s Instructional Menus from Reading First (Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Fluency, Vocabulary, Comprehension). Department to March $2000 for Special education and regular education teachers will participate in training on the use of multisensory reading and language development programs (Wilson Reading, Linda Mood-Bell, etc.). Special Education Spring $2000 IDEA Funds An elementary literacy coach will be hired to assist elementary teachers with implementation of effective reading instruction. July 2011 $70,000 ARRA funds A middle school / high school literacy coach will be hired to assist middle school and high school teachers with implementation of effective reading instruction. to December $60,000 ARRA funds Elementary, middle, and high schools will implement intervention programs using research-based intervention strategies during the school day Principals, June 5

May $2000 for Primary teachers will participate in PIMSER s Fair Share Fraction Fun to promote the use of manipulatives to build conceptual understanding of fractions. December March $13,000 PD Intermediate and middle school teachers will participate in PIMSER s Rational Number Project 1 and 2 (RNP) that focuses on using manipulative materials to develop concepts, order and equivalence ideas to operate fractions in a meaningful way. June to $10,000 Deferred PD Middle school and high school teachers will participate in PIMSER s Everyone Passes Algebra 1 (EPA) that focuses on using technology and manipulatives, developing vocabulary, using multiple representations, communication, and connections. June to $10,000 PD, 7
8 An elementary math coach will hired to assist elementary teachers with implementation of highly effective math instruction. Elementary, middle, and high school teachers will review math intervention programs that can be implemented as part of the school s RTI process.
