2 Introduction This document offers a guideline for most common scenarios when accessing applications using the Multrix Desktop Portal. This means that you may encounter situations which are not covered by this document. In that case you are advised to contact your IT coordinator or the Multrix Servicedesk. Contents 1. Multrix Desktop Portal Requirements 1.1 General You must be authorized to change your browser options and to install software on the computer that you are going to use for working with the Multrix Desktop Portal. Your computer must have a connection with the internet, based on the TCP/IP protocol 1.2 System Your computer must have one of the following Operating Systems: Windows XP Home / Professional Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows 2003 server Windows 2008 server Mac OSX 10.5/ Browser Your computer must have one of the following internet browsers.: Internet Explorer version 6.x or higher Mozilla Firefox 3.5 or higher 2. Download Citrix Software (once) Go to and download the latest Citrix Client software from there. Contact the IT coordinator of your organization in case you don t know whether you have to download the Xenapp6 or the MPS4 software. Note that the software for PC s/laptops with Windows differs from the software for PC s/laptops with MAC OS X. User manual Multrix Desktop Portal Page 3 of 12

4 3. Multrix Desktop Portal Preparation (once) As a one time preparation the internet address of the Multrix Portal needs to be added to a list of websites in your browser. To do so, follow the steps as described in this chapter. After that proceed with the steps in the next chapter 3.1 If you are working with Internet Explorer (version 6 and higher) 1. Open your internet browser. 2. Go via menu Tools to Internet Options en select the tab Security. 3. Select Local intranet and en click Sites. Note: don t select Trusted sites. In the next screen make sure that Automatically detect intranet network is selected and click Advanced. 5 In the next screen enter the following web address: *.desktopportal.nl 6 In the same screen click Add to add the Multrix Desktop Portal website to the list of Websites and click Close. *.desktopportal.nl 7. Click OK to close the Local Intranet screen and again OK to close the Internet Options screen. User manual Multrix Desktop Portal Page 5 of 12

6 1.2 If you are working with Mozilla Firefox 1. Select menu Extra and select Options. 2. Go to Content and click Exceptions (second button). 3. In the next screen enter the following address: *desktopportal.nl 4. Click Allow and click Close to close the Exceptions window. *.desktopportal.nl User manual Multrix Desktop Portal Page 6 of 12

7 4. Login to the Multrix Desktop Portal Perform the next steps to get access to the Multrix Desktop Portal: 1. Start up your browser. 2. Determine which of the scenarios below apply to your situation and perform the steps. 3. Proceed with the instructions in the next chapter of this manual. 4.1 Login (without using a Token code*) 1. Go to: (possibly your organization uses another address, but this doesn t make a difference for this procedure). 2. Enter your User Name and Password in the screen below and click Log on. * Token-code A token code is a number that is displayed on your RSA SecurID token or on your mobile phone. 8 4.2 Login with a Token-code generated by an RSA SecureID token The following procedure is only applicable if your organization gave you an RSA token for logging in to the Multrix Desktop Portal. If this is not the case, you must use another way for logging in. 1. Go to: (possibly your organization uses another address but this doesn t make a difference for this procedure). 2. Enter your User Name and Password in the screen below. 3. Enter the SecureID Passcode of your RSA token and click Log on. RSA-Token Note: The code generated by your RSA token can be used only once and for a limited period of time. User manual Multrix Desktop Portal Page 8 of 12

9 4.3 Login with a Token-code sent as text (SMS) to your mobile phone The following procedure is only applicable if your organization told you to use an RSA token that you receive on your mobile phone while logging in to the Multrix Desktop Portal. If this is not the case, you must use another way for logging in. 1. Go to: (possibly your organization uses another address but this doesn t make a difference for this procedure). 2. Enter your User Name and Password in the screen below and click Log on. The Passcode in this picture is an example! 3. Wait until your mobile phone receives a text message (SMS) including a Passcode. The message follows shortly after the previous step. 4. Enter the Passcode in the screen below and click Login. Note: The code on your mobile phone can be used only once and for a limited period of time. User manual Multrix Desktop Portal Page 9 of 12

10 4.4 Managing your Account In this chapter we have seen different ways to get access to the Multrix Desktop Portal application. Each of the login screens included a link that was not discussed yet. The link can be used for launching a website called User Account Self Service (also referred to as Password Station). After registering at User Account Self Service you can: get a new password (in case you forgot your current one); get your account unlocked; change your password; get information about your account; change your registration. 11 4.5 Do you get a screen with options after logging in? After logging in a screen with options may appear, dependent on the settings of your PC/laptop. 12 5. Launching Applications and Other Portal Options 5.1 Launching Applications After login a screen appears with various options. Use the upper main tab Applications to launch one or more applications. 5.2 Other Desktop Portal Options Click Problems Connecting? to install additional software once in case your applications do not launch. Under the main tab Messages you may find messages from Multrix Desktop Portal that can be used for troubleshooting purposes. If you are allowed to do so you can change Multrix Desktop Portal settings under the main tab Preferences. Click Log Off to close the Multrix Desktop Portal.
