1 INFORMATION NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS WMO Commission for Agricultural Meteorology Meeting of Focus Area 4 on Capacity Development Bucharest, Romania April 2016 BACKGROUND The Meeting of the WMO Commission for Agricultural Meteorology (CAgM) Focus Area 4 on Capacity Development will take place in Bucharest, Romania and will be attended by members of the CAgM Expert Team on Capacity Building (ET 4.1) and Expert Team on Guidelines on Education and Training (ET 4.2). This CAgM Meeting with be held in conjunction with the Meeting of the WMO Commission for Climatology OPACE 5 on Capacity Development. However, the hotel kindly asks the participants to contact the hotel directly to make the reservations ( to: Ms. Cristina Nica - cristina.nica@marshalgarden.ro and Ms. Simona Stamatov - simona.stamatov@marshalgarden.ro ). *Please quote the reservation code CAgM-OPCAME4 when making the individual booking request to be recognized within the block reservation made by the National Meteorological Administration and get the negotiated tariff. AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION There are several possibilities to go from/to the airport: By hotel shuttle bus: The Marshal Garden Hotel provides transport from the airport-hotel-airport, and the price is 25/50 Euros/one way/car. (if more people travel together, they can share the cost); By public transport Once in the hall of the "Arrivals" building, go downstairs, on the ground floor, by using the escalator. Near the exit door, you will readily see the bus-stop indicator for EXPRESS BUS no. 783 and the ticket kiosk, where you can buy the necessary no name-required electronic travel cards. Full timetable of the 783 bus: from airport and to airport. Please ask the driver to stop at bus-stop PIATA ROMANA. As you get off bus 783, turn back towards ROMANA square. If you buy the electronic card, it must be recharged within a certain amount (min. 2.6 lei and max. 50 lei) and it can be used for each kind of public transport in Bucharest (buses, trams, metro, express lines and night buses). 3 Card validation: 1. The correct validation is confirmed by a short sound, the green lights and the message "Călătorie plăcută!" shown on the validating machine. 2. More information about your available amount can be found by pressing 1 (on the left part of the validating machine). 3. If you want to add one more traveler, you can use the same card and this operation can be performed by pressing 2 (on the right part of the validating machine). On the bus, ticket inspectors may ask your card for control and the fine for travelling without a ticket is of 50 lei. By taxi Taxi on order Kiosks have digital displays that allow ordering a taxi in many international languages. They are situated in the arrival area. The passengers are offered a selection of Taxi Companies (the race price per kilometer is displayed for each available company). The passenger order is routed through the Kiosk and directly to the taxi company. The company logo is then displayed and the passenger can easily recognize that the company billing details. The print bill contains details about the chosen company, the machine index, estimated time until arrival at the car, dispatch phone number and valid address for suggestions and complaints. Fast taxi (usually more expensive than taxi on order) Station "fast taxi" was relocated to the exit of the terminal, ground floor. Some private taxi drivers park their taxis in the parking lot and approach customers at the terminal. PLEASE AVOID DEALING with private taxi drivers that approach you. VISA ARRANGEMENTS Please check your country s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to check your visa requirements for Romania. Please note that Romania is part of the European Union, however, it is NOT under the Schengen Visa rules. LANGUAGE The Workshop will be held in English. CURRENCY AND BANKS The official unit of currency is the Lei (RON). 1 EURO = 4.48 lei. ELECTRICITY Romania's electrical current is 230 V; 50 cycles and sockets take the standard continental European dual round-pronged plugs. A plug adaptor is required for non-european appliances. Please remember that simple adapters do not convert voltage or frequency. A power converter is necessary for appliances requiring 110 V. 4 / 5
