1 Dear Parents of the Cast Members of The Wedding Singer, I congratulate your child for being selected in the cast for the 2014 KWS major production The Wedding Singer. I look forward to working with your sons and daughters to develop drama, singing, dancing and acting skills and bring you an exciting, vibrant piece of musical theatre set in the 80s. There will be 5 performances (17 19 July). The Wedding Singer is a demanding musical. There are 11 ensemble songs in the production. This year we will again rehearse principals and chorus members on mornings between 7.55 and 8.45am and afternoons in the usual musical rehearsal timeslot of pm. Principals (and chorus members in Term 2) will also be on evenings from pm. Students will be to pack adequate snacks and drinks for the long afternoons. Boarders will have to arrange for a friend to pick up a late dinner. The musical involves separate choruses. Please note the chorus your child is part of and the times and dates for their rehearsals. It is important that the students attend the correct rehearsals. There will be some rehearsals in May and June please start revising for exams early, as they fall the weekends before exams. They will be a good study break for the weekend but you must plan ahead of time! Please take time to study the schedule below and write in diaries and calendars when particular cast members are and at what times. It is important that cast members learn and practise songs and dance routines in their own time, so that rehearsal times can be effective. Hockey matches, rowing, cricket and water polo sometimes clash with rehearsals on evenings. We ask that students involved in these activities come to rehearsal in their sports uniforms, leave to play their game and return to rehearsal, if possible, after the game. Attendance for these students at morning rehearsals will therefore be non negotiable. Cast members are to learn their lines over the Easter break. There will be no scripts after Easter. All cast and band members are for the whole week of the musical camp week (7 11 July), so students CANNOT participate in the KWS ski trip if they have been chosen to be in the musical. If you have any questions, please contact me on or clitchfield@kws.nsw.edu.au. For attendance matters, please contact Mr Morrisey on or lmorrisey@kws.nsw.edu.au. Written requests for absences must be submitted to Mr Morrisey at least one week ahead of time or, in the case of unexpected absences, on the first day that your child returns to school. Notes can be ed or delivered directly to Mr Morrisey in the English staff room. If cast members miss too many rehearsals, it lets the team down. Students may be asked to withdraw from the musical for too many absences. Thank you for your cooperation over the next few months. I hope that your children will have a fun and rewarding experience preparing and performing The Wedding Singer. Catherine Litchfield Producer/Director
