Live-Fire Classes: **Unless noted all classes will be limited to 20 shooters to maintain the best-possible student to teacher ratio. All our live-fire classes are broken down into level 1, 2 and 3 levels, respectively. This is to help each shooter decide what class level they are ready to attend. Level 1 Classes: The level 1 classes do not assume any weapons experience or knowledge beyond basic gun safety. And we cover basic gun safety here as well. These are intro-level courses designed for people who want to learn skills in a very non-intimidating environment. The level 1 classes are for people who have shot firearms before but want to learn more about using them properly in a defensive capacity. Level 2 Classes: The level 2 classes assume the student has the basic skills to properly operate the given weapon system for that class. Level 2 classes are designed to build on the level 1 classes and start to integrate tactics for survival in deadly force situations. So we will be adding more complex and advanced skills here. And we will put the students under higher levels of stress to start to acclimate them to a real-life gunfighting environment. However, the jump from level 1 to level 2 is something that literally everybody can make. The level 2 classes should be the goal for most students as they teach you the skills you need to have to be able to effectively defend your life (or loved ones) with a firearm. Level 3 Classes: The level 3 classes are the most intense classes we offer. And there are only a few of them. They are for students who want to take their weapon skills to a level few ever dream of achieving. They are physical classes and the instructors will be placing the students under maximum amounts of stress to adequately prepare them for real-world scenarios. They are the most demanding classes we offer but they are also some of the best classes we offer. We push the students to their failure points so they know what they have to do to get better. Here are two additional guidelines that will help you select the proper class level: 1) If you have attended our Basic Handgun and Marksmanship class in the past, you are currently ready for any level 1 class. 2) If you have attended any other handgun class previously presented by Hard Target Firearms in the past, you are currently ready for a level 2 class. 3) If you have attended several Hard Target Firearms training classes in the past and are confident in your physical abilities and gun-handling skills, you are ready for a level 3 class. If you have any doubts or questions, simply contact us and we ll steer you to the right class. You should NEVER feel intimidated or worried about anything here. We provide training to all skill levels. Basic Handgun and Marksmanship (BHM) Our BHM class is for novice and first-time shooters. All aspects of gun safety and basic operation will be covered in depth. Marksmanship will be extensively covered as well. The shooters will be firing their weapons, many of which are typically the first shots the students have fired. This is the class for the true beginner who wants to learn the basics and get comfortable with their weapon. We will open this class up to 30 shooters. Women s-only Basic Handgun and Marksmanship (BHM) This is a class only for the women. Our BHM class is for novice and first-time shooters.
Concealed Carry 1 (CC1) Take our CC1 class to learn the fundamentals of carrying a concealed weapon. We ll cover the techniques for concealed carry, the proper draw stroke, the proper re-holstering process and you will learn some basic movements as well. You ll also dig into some of the considerations that responsibly-armed citizens need to work through in order to be effective with a concealed handgun. This class is for those who need a great starting point for learning concealed carry. There are no prerequisites for this class. Women s-only Concealed Carry 1 (CC1) This is a class only for the women. Learn the fundamentals of carrying a concealed weapon. We ll cover the techniques for concealed carry, the proper draw stroke, the proper re-holstering process. That includes the logistics of purse carry and other off-body carry techniques that apply almost exclusively to women. This class is designed to help each woman work with her chosen method of concealed carry. You will learn some basic movements as well. You ll also dig into some of the considerations that responsibly-armed citizens need to work through in order to be effective with a concealed handgun. This class is for those who need a great starting point for learning concealed carry. There are no prerequisites for this class. Concealed Carry 2 (CC2) This is a class for both men and women. If you realistically expect to use your concealed carry weapon effectively, this class is mandatory. We will build off the skills from the level I class. We will quickly cover the basics and then move into more advanced skills. We ll be working through a variety of skills and tactics here. Expect the following: Movement off the line of attack, movement to cover/shooting from cover, positional shooting and various shooting distances. Also expect scenario-based shooting drills and higher stress levels to get you ready for actual deadly force conflict. don t feel intimidated here. Just know that this is a level II class that does not focus on the basics of handgun operation. Defensive Handgun 1 (DH1) Learn how to properly operate and manipulate your handgun. DH1 is the class that picks up where the Basic Marksmanship class leaves off. Learn all the skills that a user must know to properly employ a handgun. You ll learn admin reloads, speed reloads and tactical reloads. You ll learn the various types of malfunctions and how to clear them. We ll teach you the proper draw stroke and the proper re-holstering technique. We ll also have you moving a little bit and we ll be teaching you the fundamentals of cover and concealment. Defensive Handgun 2 (DH2) DH2 is the class that every handgun owner really needs to take because this is the class where we teach you the difference between operating a handgun and actually fighting with one. And there is a big difference. DH2 will teach you to use your handgun as a tool to save your life. We quickly cover the basics from the level I class and then move right into more advanced techniques and tactics. You ll be shooting from various types of cover from various body positions and distances. You ll learn close-retention shooting. You ll learn advanced handgun techniques for fighting while wounded and for loading/re-loading/clearing malfunctions while disabled. Expect scenario-based shooting and higher stress levels to get you ready for actual deadly force conflict. Low-Light Defensive Handgun 2 (DH2) Low-Light DH2 is the class where you learn how to fight with your handgun in low-light. Statistically, the vast majority of deadly force conflict happens in low-light or no-light. You need to train for that and learn to how to fight at night. This class is as much about low-light fundamentals and tactics as it is about shooting. We quickly cover the basics from the level I class and then move right into more advanced techniques and tactics. You ll be shooting from various types of cover from various body positions and distances. We ll teach you proper technique for handheld flashlight use and we ll teach proper technique for weapon-mounted light use. Expect scenario-based shooting and higher stress levels to get you ready for
actual deadly force conflict. Expect to use your handgun in ways you never thought of and expect to walk away with a level of flashlight proficiency you never expected. Carbine Manipulation 1 (CM1) CM1 is our introductory class to the modern carbine. This class is open to all AR, AK and other semi-auto platforms. We will cover the gun safety necessary here and cover the basics of operation with each student and their chosen gun. We will cover things like the combat stance, how to properly mount the gun, proper safety manipulation, admin loading procedures, speed reloads and tactical reloads. In this class you will learn all the elements of carbine manipulation you need to know in order to move your skills forward with additional training. We ll also talk about some basic tactics and we ll dig into various equipment issues as well. If you are new to the carbine, this is the class that sets the stage for all the rest. Carbine Manipulation 2 CM2) CM2 is the standard for carbine operations. We ll quickly cover the basics from the level I class and then move quickly into advanced techniques and skills with the carbines. We ll have you moving and shooting, taking on multiple threats, shooting from cover/concealment, fighting from various body positions and dealing with higher levels of stress to acclimate you to real life encounters. We ll cover things like clearing malfunctions, dealing with dropped weapons and handgun transitions. Expect situational shooting at various distances on various targets as well. You ll learn to use your carbine as a fighting tool and will do things with it you never thought you would do. don t feel intimidated here. Just know that this is a level II class that does not focus on the basics of carbine operation. If Low-Light Carbine Manipulation 2 (CM2) Low-Light CM2 is a gun fighting class. If you take (or want to take) the standard CM2 class, know that this class will not be the same class. We ll quickly cover entirely different topics. We ll hit the basics of low-light deadly force encounters and the requisite range safety. We ll then be teaching various techniques with handheld and weapon-mounted lights for the carbines. You ll learn where to use light and when not to. This class will be less about advanced carbine operating skills and more about low-light fighting tactics. You ll be moving in the dark and engaging hostile targets. We ll then move quickly into advanced techniques with the carbines, in the dark. Expect situational shooting at various distances on various targets as well. don t feel intimidated here. Just know that this is a level II class that does not focus on the basics of carbine operation. If Defensive Shotgun 1 (DS1) The shotgun is the most common gun used in home defense. Our DS1 class is geared towards teaching the beginner how to properly use the shotgun for defensive applications. We will cover the basics of safety and operation. You will learn how to load and unload the weapon. We will cover things like the combat stance, how to properly mount the gun, proper safety manipulation, admin loading procedures, speed reloads and tactical reloads. You ll engage single and multiple targets. And you will start to learn how to fight with a shotgun. This is a class for beginners and for those who want to really improve their shotgun skills. Family Protection 2 (FP2) Our FP1 class is a new addition to the Hard Target lineup. Why? Because there is a big difference between carrying a gun and knowing how to use it defend not just yourself, but your family and other people. In this class, we will fall back on the close-personal protection experience of our instructors. You ll learn how manage those around you during deadly force confrontations. Expect to learn various techniques of engaging threats while moving innocent people off the line of
attack. We ll dig into various tactics to keep you and your family alive. Learn how to plan for these events with your loved one. And learn what to do if you find yourself engaged with an enemy around innocent people. Home Defense 1 (HD1) Our HD1 class is going to groundbreaking for a lot of people. In this class, you will bring your home defense weapon, whatever it may be. We will cover the basics and the concepts used in home defense. We will then dig into all the considerations you need to look at in the home defense arena. We ll look at the tactics involved and we ll examine various types of cover and concealment. You ll learn how to clear a room and move through a house with a loaded weapon as a civilian would need to. You ll learn to shoot from concealment. You ll learn to fight your way to loved ones if need be. Expect situational and scenario-based shooting drills in the shoot house. Also expect some stress to be involved as well because home defense situations are very scary. We need to condition you for that scenario. You ll learn more in this class than you have likely ever learned about defending your family and your home. Defensive Vehicle Operations 2 (DVO2) Carjacking and vehicle-based crimes are a real threat. Our DVO class is what prepares you to face that situation. We will look at the various challenges faced when fighting from a vehicle. You will learn how to draw and engage targets from your vehicle. We will have a junk car on scene and you will then get to engage bad guys through the windows of that car. We will have you testing your carry/duty ammo on that car so you can experience what kind of effectiveness your ammo actually has against a vehicle. Expect to do things in this class you have never done before with a handgun. And expect to have a lot of fun in the process. Team Movement and Egress 3 (TME3) TME3 is one of our most advanced classes. This is a carbine and handgun class. We will quickly cover the basics and then move right into the concepts of fighting as a small team. Expect 2-5 man teams here, based on the situation. You will learn how to communicate as a unit and how to move around each other during a fight. Expect a very physical class that teaches advanced techniques for moving as a unit, engaging threats and then egressing out of the contact zone as a unit. You ll learn about cover fire, suppressive fire and you ll learn advanced techniques like the Australian Peel and many others. Expect a very high stress level to be applied throughout the class. This is a level 3 class. Shooters must have either gone through a level 2 class with Hard Target or have the commensurate skills to navigate this class. All students must show up to the range with the weapon-skills to participate in this class. We are not teaching weapon skills here. This is a class with a lot of movement and a lot of complexity. It s not for the beginner. You will walk away more proficient than you ever expected to be. Offensive Handgun 3 (OH3) OH3 is one of most advanced classes. This is a handgun-only class that is hosted by Hard Target Firearms Training and taught by former US Naval Special Operations personnel. Learn the most advanced gun fighting techniques. Expect highly advanced skills and tactics to be taught here. This will be a very physical experience. You ll be running, you ll be on the ground. You ll be pushed mentally and physically. This will also be the highest level of mental stress applied all year for civilians. You ll be engaging target after target under high levels of duress.
Precision Rifle 1 (PR1) Our PR1 class is for all those interested in learning the basics of the long-range precision rifle. This class is hosted by Hard Target Firearms Training and taught by John McQuay. John is a Evansville Police Officer who is also a former USMC Sniper School graduate. You will learn the basics of marksmanship and we will help you address any issues you have. John will be teaching you the art of the scoped rifle. This is a level 1 class so there is no required previous experience. You will be engaging targets from yards however. So while there are required skills, your rifle needs to be scoped and capable of the task. Simunition Classes (Force on Force) Simunition is the premier firearms simulator training in the world. Until recently, it was only available to elite military and law enforcement teams. Hard Target Firearms Training was the one of (if not THE) first companies in the WORLD to gain access to this equipment for civilian use. It s the BEST real-world training. You will be put into various scenarios and you will have to deal with the situation. Expect things like bank robberies, muggings, home invasions, carjacking and many others. The guns are real weapons (Glocks, revolvers, shotguns and ARs) that have conversion kits replacement slides and bolts to be exact. Those conversion kits allow them to only chamber and fire Simunition rounds. Meaning there is zero risk here of any live ammo getting in the mix. To further assure your safety, there are very strict rules we enforce during this training. There will be zero teacher-to-student physical contact even though the scenarios will be intense. You will be required to have nothing in your pockets or on your person beyond the clothes and protective gear. In terms of what to expect, the Simuntion rounds look similar to real ammo except they have a plastic bullet filled with a soap-based dye that marks the person when they are hit. The rounds are high-velocity. This is NOT paintball. From the handguns you ll work with, they are about 450 feet per second. They sting but it s not bad. You would be wise to bring a sweatshirt to cover exposed skin but don t fear this stuff or feel you need a ton of layers for protection. You will be provided with the weapon you need, the ammo you need, a full face shield, a helmet and a throat protector. All women will be REQUIRED to wear provided body armor to protect their upper torso s. ATHLETIC CUPS ARE MANDOTORY FOR MEN AND WOMEN. Simunition is simply the best simulator there is and the scenarios you go through and witness may actually be some of the most valuable training you will ever get, without a doubt. You will feel what it s like to be in a gunfight. The adrenaline rush, the auditory exclusion, the tunnel vision. All of it. One phenomena of that physiological response is temporary memory loss of the event. It happens in over 50% of the students. We ll ask a student for details of the scenario and they will draw a total blank purely because of the adrenaline response. So we will film each student going through this and then debrief you after wards. You ll have the opportunity to watch that video on an ipad or latptop and see everything that happened. It is a fantastic learning tool. And remember that this is gear that we have access to and virtually nobody else in the country does on the civilian level.
