The authentic woollen sock Made entirely in Canada

step into a canadian tradition A family-run business and a source of local pride, Duray has been making socks for over 75 years. Our product, the authentic woollen sock, is the result of perfecting over three generations of know-how. It s a point of pride that our socks are produced entirely in Canada, in our two factories in Princeville, Quebec. Our unionized employees are involved in every aspect of production, from carding raw wool to inspecting the final product by hand. They are committed to quality work, and are the heart of the company s continued success. Our clients satisfaction is our top priority. Our dedication and proximity to distributors have resulted in strong ties with them; we respond to their needs quickly, personally, and to their utmost satisfaction. Duray is a quiet force, a human company, built on integrity. Step into a Canadian tradition.
Entirely Made Here Quality materials make a quality product. Our team takes care of every aspect of manufacturing, right from selecting first-rate textiles in an unprocessed state. Natural fibres (sheep s wool, lambs wool, cotton) and synthetics (nylon, spandex, polyester, etc.) arrive at our warehouse to be sorted, amalgamated for our blends, and carded. This process results in solid, strong yarn, perfectly suited to our knitting machines. Carded Wool: A Thousand-Year-Old Tradition The woollen technique of wool carding has been passed down for centuries. Originally done by hand, carding is now done using high-tech computerised machinery. Carding consists of feeding blended textiles through drums that are lined with fine steel bristles, to divide the fibres then gather them back together. Another technique, called worsted, involves feeding wool through a series of increasingly fine combs, separating and stretching out the fibres to result in fine and silky knits. While both techniques (woollen and worsted) have advantages, at Duray, we specialise in woollen products. The result: soft, cushy socks with a rustic knit, perfect for our harsh winters. Nylon: Wool s Best Friend During the carding process, other fibres are added to the wool, and colour blends are created. Next to wool, the most important fibre is undeniably nylon. At Duray, we add nylon to all our socks, as it has the specific characteristic of making knits more durable. This ensures that our socks retain their strength and shape throughout their lifetime. Heat and Air Clothes don t create heat; bodies do. The more air trapped and circulating in a sock, the better the sock s resistance is to cold. That said, the knit also has to breathe in order to eliminate moisture. Wool is the only textile that offers the optimal balance between thermal protection and moisture control.
The Exceptional Benefits of Wool 1. Heat regulation Wool is a natural material that breathes while maintaining its thermal properties under all conditions. Your feet stay warm even if your socks are wet, and they stay cool when the temperature goes up. 2. Moisture control Wool can soak up up to one third of its weight in water without losing its heat regulation characteristics. It absorbs moisture generated by the body and wicks it away to the exterior of the sock, so your feet stay perfectly warm. 3. Naturally anti-odour Bacteria in sweat can create unpleasant foot odour. Wool provides natural antibacterial protection. 4. Fire resistance The temperature required to burn wool is very high. And since our wool socks absorb moisture from the body, they are all the more resistant to flame. As a result, our wool products are naturally fire-resistant. 5. Easy care Treated wool is easy to maintain. All of our products are pre-washed and pre-shrunk. So you can machinewash and tumble-dry them without ever worrying about damage.

Our Product Family There s a sock for every activity. Our products are categorized to help you find the right one for your needs. The thicker and more cushioned the sock, the warmer it is and the better the wool can work its magic. The weight of each sock is indicated in grams per square metre; it varies between 60 and 200 g/m 2. The greater the weight, the thicker and warmer the sock. The heat index (illustrated as a range from one to four flames ) helps you quickly ascertain the thickness and warmth of each product. Work Outdoor Universal Heritage Performance Gloves and mittens The choice of outdoor workers for years. A complete range designed specifically for people who rely on durability and strength. Thermal Fully cushioned and with a soft texture, our thick outdoor socks are your best bet when it comes to beating the biting cold. Comfort Several models and colours, but only one goal: versatility and comfort, under all conditions.

Details about the fibres we use Natural fibres Wool Wool is biodegradable, renewable, breathable and versatile. It doesn t cling, and can be stretched by up to 40 % only to bounce back to its original shape. We use pure virgin wool almost exclusively; it s a pure wool fibre that isn t recycled from other productions. The different types of wool we use come from across the globe, particularly from New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and South America: They include: - lambswool, a fine, silky, very shiny fibre that comes from a baby lamb s first shearing; - Merino wool, which comes from a special breed of sheep. It is softer than most wool, because the diameter of its fibres is finer. Cotton A soft, breathable, moisture-absorbing fibre, cotton is added to many of our blends to make our products even more comfortable. Synthetic fibres Acrylic Often compared to wool, acrylic adds a touch of softness and helps keep feet dry. This light fibre dries quickly and dyes well. Polyester Cool and soft, polyester absorbs moisture and dries quickly. It s also easy to care for. Aramid Aramid is a fireproof synthetic fibre, used in the place of nylon to offer greater flame resistance. Our FR -labelled products are made using this fibre. They successfully pass the ASTM D flame resistance test. Polypropylene This textile fibre is more than water-resistant: it floats. When added to our blends, polypropylene helps keep your feet dry. Nylon Added to all our blends, this textile greatly increases the durability of our socks. Using nylon gives products a superior lifespan. Spandex Adding Spandex improves wool s elasticity. It also helps socks keep their original shape and allows them to snugly fit different sizes properly. CARE TIPS All Duray products are pre-washed and pre-shrunk. You can have peace of mind placing them in the washing machine and dryer if you follow these tips: Wash in water not exceeding 40 C in a domestic or commercial machine at a normal setting. Do not bleach. Tumble-dry low heat (maximum 55 C) at a permanent press setting.

With sustainable development processes, we avoid unnecessary waste, use eco-friendly chemicals and dyes, and give new life to unused wool by reintegrating it into the production chain of certain products. Further, implementing optimized manufacturing techniques significantly reduces the risk of negatively impacting on the environment. Community involvement is important to us: every year we donate warm and durable socks to the homeless, to help keep them warm when they need it most. At Duray, we are dedicated to offering the best customer service possible.
