2 1 Introduction to Aastra 700 You have just received a complete Aastra 700 system, which consists of an ASU-E based server and MGU based Media Gateway as well as some optional trunk or line cards placed in a 3U or 4U chassis, depending on configuration. The TSE and Management Application Suite as well as the UC applications are pre-installed in a virtualized environment on the ASU-E server board. This quick install guide contains the steps necessary to unpack and install the physical system prior to beginning the configuration phase. Before starting the configuration process, a few simple installation steps need to be completed first. Completing the installation of Aastra 700 consists of the following steps, which are covered in this document: 1. Unpacking and verifying the delivered equipment. 2. Installing the Aastra 700 Chassis in a 19 rack with proper power and grounding. 3. Connection of the ASU-E Server and MGU Media Gateway board to the customer LAN. 4. Connecting a console and keyboard to the ASU-E server board. 5. Connecting the V24 serial cable between your Windows PC and MGU USB port 6. Powering up the system. 1.1 Good to know before you start Electrical Connections Installation procedures involving connection of power cables and batteries must be performed according to local regulations. Please read the Personal Health and Safety information in the Aastra 700 CPI documentation prior to beginning the installation Safety All personnel involved in installation must read and understand the safety instructions prior to installation, see the descriptions in the safety related documents in the Legal Notices section of the Aastra 700 CPI documentation Site Planning The Aastra 700 should be installed in a room prepared for the system. For information on site preparation, the guidelines described in the environmental specifications for MX-ONE SITE PLANNING, Document Number: 1/1533-ASP , apply for Aastra 700 as well Grounding and Earthing In this document, the expressions grounding and earthing have the same meaning. 2

3 2 Installing your Aastra 700 System 2.1 Unpacking To keep a tidy work environment, it is recommended to unpack one piece of hardware at a time. Start unpacking the equipment in the following order: 1. Inspect the cases for any external damage. 2. Open the box and the protecting plastic wrapping, and remove all packing material. 3. Check that the equipment has not been damaged during transport. If equipment has been damaged and must be replaced or repaired at the service shop, report this immediately. 4. Make sure the correct equipment has arrived by comparing the received items with the item list in the shipping specification. 5. Verify that all boards (MGU/TMU, ASU-E, ELU, TLU boards) are correctly placed inside the 3U chassis and that they have not become loose during transport. 6. If the ASU-E is delivered a part of a 4U configuration, make sure it is correctly fitted into the 1U server chassis. Otherwise, verify that it is correctly placed into the 3U chassis above the MGU/TMU combination. 7. Verify the correct placement of the drives in the ASU-E board as described in section 2.3 below. Make sure that the drives have not come loose during transport and that the drive cover is securely in place. 8. Where applicable, make sure the required accessories are provided with the equipment. 9. Make sure no necessary parts are discarded together with the packing material. 10. Note down the Windows serial number on the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker, which is in a plastic bag attached to the unit. This number is needed when putting the Windows OS into operation. This Windows COA sticker must be stored in safe place for future use if a new installation is required. 11. Report any missing items to the sender according defined claim routine. 2.2 Earthing It is vital that all Aastra 700 hardware is properly connected to a common earth. In the case of a 4U configuration, make sure that the different units e.g. the 1U ASU-E Server and the 3U chassis - are connected to a common earth when these units are screwed into a 19 rack. Also make sure that equipment that is located outside of the racks, like, for example, Aastra Mobile Client (AMC) Controller or voice recording equipment, are properly connected to the common earth. Recommendation: As grounding wire, use a copper conductor and secure it tightly, both to the rack unit to be grounded, and to the grounding point. A cable lug may be needed. At both ends of the grounding conductor, the units shall be free from paint or other insulating material. 3

4 2.3 Installing the Hardware This section describes the installation of the Aastra 700 chassis in a standard 19 rack. 1. The boards come pre-installed in the 3U Chassis and the 1U server chassis (Optional). 2. The drive units come pre-installed in the ASU-E board. The drive labeled 0 should be in the lower drive slot and the drive labeled 1 should be in the upper drive slot. It is recommended to install the hardware at the cabinet locations described in the instructions below. It is possible to change the hardware placement in the cabinet. In that case, the following constraints must be regarded: If batteries and external battery charger are used (-48V power source), it is recommended that they be placed in the lowest position in the cabinet due to weight and safety reasons. If applicable, the two chassis (1U and 3U) should be mounted closely together with the 1U unit above the 3U unit with approximately 1-2 cm of air space between them. Note: The following instructions describe a typical hardware installation in a standard 19 cabinet, such as a BYB 501. When installing the hardware in other types of cabinets, refer to manufacturer instructions Installing the 3U and the 3U+1U (4U) chassis In the case of the 4U configuration, the ASU 1U server is placed directly above the 3U chassis. The installation of the 1U chassis is exactly the same as the 3U chassis, so consider the procedure below to apply for either chassis being installed. 5 To install the Aastra 700 chassis in the cabinet, perform the following steps: Figure 1: Installing the 3U chassis Mount four captive nuts (A) at a chosen position. The 3U chassis has mounting holes to fit both metric and inch measured cabinets. Fasten the chassis to the four captive nuts in the cabinet, using the four screws (C). Note: Do not obstruct the cooling air flow, which goes from right to left in the chassis. 2.4 Connecting the RJ45 LAN cables to the ASU-E and the MGU board 1. Connect two LAN cables to the LAN network using standard Cat 5 LAN straight cables (customer provided). 2. Connect the first LAN cable to ASU-E port LAN0 3. Connect the second LAN cable to MGU port LAN0. Note: the LAN0 port on the MGU is the second RJ45 port from the left. Figure 2: Connecting the RJ45 LAN cables to the ASU-E and the MGU board 5

6 2.5 Connecting Keyboard and Monitor to ASU-E A monitor and a keyboard are required for the initial configuration of the ASU-E server. Connect the monitor cable and the keyboard (USB) cable to the ASU-E. Note: Once the initial configuration is completed, the monitor and keyboard should be disconnected. 2.6 Connecting the V24 cable to the MGU board USB port For initial configuration of the MGU IP network information, a special V24 cable, TSR /1, in the form of a USB to D-Sub cable, plus a 9 pin D-Sub female to female adaptor is used. 1. Connect the USB end of the V24 cable to the MGU board 2. Connect the V24 end of the cable to the PC. Note: Once the initial is completed, this cable should be removed. 2.7 Power up the system 3U chassis : Plug-in the power cable into the chassis 3U+1U chassis : Plug in the power cable to both chassis The ASU-E and the MGU board will both power-up. 3 Clean-up routines before starting the configuration Before leaving the installation site, complete the following steps: Clean up the site and remove objects like wrapping paper and cable pieces. Dispose of waste material according to local regulations. Out of precaution, it is recommended to print one copy of the safety document in the CPI documentation and place it visibly on site next to where the chassis is installed. Make sure that all cables to and from the chassis have stated earth connections mounted and that no cable shields are damaged. Cables should be properly fitted into the appropriate cable guides and secured to avoid them getting in the way or getting damaged. Make sure that all rack cabinet doors are free of any obstruction (cables, earthing, etc ) and can be closed properly once the installation is finished. 6

7 4 Start the Software Installation and Configuration Phase Once the above steps have been completed, you may proceed to the software installation and configuration of Aastra 700 Telephony System. Please refer to the Aastra 700 Getting Started Guide in the Aastra 700 CPI documentation. The Aastra 700 CPI documentation can be downloaded from the Service Plaza. Note: Remember to have the Windows Server COA sticker handy, as it will be needed during the final setup of the Windows 2008 Server operating system. Note: the VMware license is delivered via in the form of a registration card (A4 sheet) with the order confirmation. It includes instructions to install the permanent VMware license. 7
