1 Revised November 2013 JOB TITLE: EMPLOYER LOCATION: ACCOUNTABLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: HOURS: SALARY: Animal Care Supervisor RSPCA Warrington Halton and St Helens Warrington Animal Centre, Slutchers Lane, Warrington Branch Manager Animal Centre Assistants and Volunteers (supervisory) 37.5 hours a week, normally over 5 days including weekends and Bank Holidays by rota. 12,391 to 14,000 dependent upon experience OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB To support the Branch Manager with the allocation and conduct of work within the animal centre including supervision and practical training of Animal Care Assistants and volunteers. To support the Branch Manager in the execution of the day to day operation of the animal centre, providing care for the animals in the centre and maintaining the main administrative procedures. To assist the Branch Manager in ensuring the health and safety of staff and volunteers. To help develop good relations with the local community and volunteers To support the objectives of the Branch and to uphold and ensure empathy with the key purpose of the RSPCA by promoting the good name of the Branch through the promotion of its work. STAFF AND CENTRE SUPERVISION 1. To deputise for the Branch Manager when required 2. Day to day supervision (but not appraisal) of Animal Care Assistants and volunteers including the allocation of duties, coaching and support. 3. To assist the Branch Manager in maintaining staff rosters in accordance with the requirements of RSPCA licensing conditions. 4. To liaise with RSPCA representatives regarding the acceptance and on-going care of case animals ensuring completion of all necessary paperwork and compliance with all RSPCA protocols. 5. Lead by example and model a positive and professional attitude to work and encourage the same in Animal Care Assistants and volunteers. ANIMAL CARE 1. Liaise with the consulting veterinary surgeon in respect of the examination and treatment of animals and to ensure that treatments and medications are administered in the prescribed quantity at the specified intervals. 2. Provide overnight cover for the Animal Centre as dictated by operational needs. 3. To support and develop the Volunteer Fostering service 4. Where appropriate, liaise with external organisations, including Branches regarding networking and rehoming of animals signed over.

To clean, disinfect and maintain, to a high standard of cleanliness: the animal accommodation, isolation and exercise areas; food preparation areas; laundry, storage and treatment facilities; and, reception, committee and all staff areas. 6. Following instructions as laid down by the Branch Manager, prepare and provide food and water for all animals in the establishment. 7. To ensure the on-going assessment, in conjunction with other staff, of animals in respect of their health, welfare, general condition. To draw attention to animals not considered to be fully healthy or considered to require veterinary attention. 8. To attend to the needs of individual animals, including feeding, exercise, coat care/grooming, administration of first aid, treatments and medications as directed. 9. The implanting of microchips and completion of microchip records for signed-over animals. 10. To maintain/monitor daily animal records and general administrative records as required by the branch. 11. Assist with the humane euthanasia of animals, including carcass disposal. CUSTOMER CARE 1. To attend to the needs of general public in a professional manner, and to liaise with colleagues and volunteers as appropriate 2. Attend to the needs of clients/customers and other visitors to the Animal Centre which includes corporate supporters. 3. Deal with telephone enquiries when necessary. ADMINISTRATION 1. Assist with ordering, stock rotation, presentation, sales and stock taking as instructed by the Branch Manager. 2. To maintain statistical information in accordance with RSPCA guidelines. 3. To proactively support the general administration of the branch as directed by the branch manager which will ensure public contact is maintained, and the branch complies with legislation, and runs smoothly and efficiently 4. Deal with telephone enquiries when necessary. 5. Operate the cash register and ensure the safe receipt of money, donated goods and gift aid are processed as directed by the Branch Manager. 6. Maintain daily cash records as directed by the Branch Manager. HEALTH AND SAFETY 1. To actively monitor all health and safety measures and fire prevention practices as laid down in the health and safety and fire manuals and policies and procedures and ensure that these are adhered to by staff, volunteers and the general public within the centre, reporting any accidents or incidents in accordance with procedures and observe these in all aspects of own work.

Report any faulty equipment, lighting, heating, ventilation equipment etc to the Animal Centre Manager. GENERAL DUTIES 1. To participate in fundraising or publicity events as the branch may require 2. Drive the Animal Centre vehicle on Branch business as directed by the by the Branch Manager. 3. Undertake other duties as required by the Branch Manager. 4. To attend meetings and training courses as required. 5. To follow the branch s re homing, euthanasia and other policies. 6. To undertake any other reasonable duties as may fall within the remit of the job as requested by the Branch manager. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION EDUCATION & TRAINING ESSENTIAL Level 3 or above in animal care RSPCA standard procedures EXPERIENCE Knowledge and experience of animal behaviour and animal husbandry as it relates to companion animals DESIRABLE Degree in Animal Behaviour or equivalent in animal care Previous experience in the charitable sector in working with volunteers. Proven track record of supervising a work force SPECIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE The ability to lead, motivate and inspire with a positive influence on staff and volunteers. Ability to prioritise workload. Planning and organisational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to complete essential management forms and analyse data. Ability to handle cash and accounting procedures competently. Able to work under direction from managers but equally able to use own initiative Ability to identify skills in volunteers that can be developed and employed to best effect. Knowledge of animal welfare issues, particularly as they relate to RSPCA policy and practice Some basic knowledge of health and safety regulations Computer literate in word, , twitter and facebook
