2 The Grand Départ The Tour de France is the world s largest annual sporting event and the Grand Départ is the opening of the race 5 July, Leeds to Harrogate; 6 July, York to Sheffield The race reaches a television audience of 100 s of millions in 188 countries On average, spectators travel 130km to see a stage of Le Tour. They spend over six hours at the roadside. 30% of those spectators are women The last time the Tour visited England was in 2007 when it raced from London to Kent. 2 million people turned out over two days Yorkshire s Brian Robinson was the first British man to win a stage of the Tour in 1958 The French are `en fete for the race as it passes through their landscape. Land art inspired by the bicycle appears everywhere will be the first time that a cultural festival will be run up to and alongside the race.

4 Yorkshire Welcomes the World Across the county and along the route, Yorkshire welcomes the world with millions experiencing and getting involved in innovative and ambitious world-class work which puts an international spotlight on: o o o True Grit - Creative expressions of physical skill, courage and determination Yorkshire `en fete Creative transformations of Yorkshire s culture, heritage and landscape, urban, rural and coastal. Creative celebrations of the bicycle, its green credentials and the Grand Départ in our county World-Class Yorkshire Focus on Yorkshire s vibrant and innovative artists, arts organisations and members of its creative industries. The Festival gives us an opportunity to push boundaries, raise Yorkshire s creative profile and forge new creative collaborations across the county, regionally, nationally and internationally The Festival draws communities and artists together to celebrate the Grand Départ in our land.

8 Five outcomes o Create a global showcase for the best of Yorkshire s artistic talent o Animate Yorkshire in the build up to and during the Yorkshire Grand Départ (from 100 days out with launch, gradual build and majority of activity from mid-june) o Ensure a broad approach to participation. This includes engaging existing and new audiences and spectators from a diverse range of backgrounds in exciting and inclusive ways o Produce activity that leaves a legacy for artists, participants and audiences o Create a celebration of community creativity.

Regional, national and international connections forged o Iconic, creative collection of images and film of the county s landmarks, landscape, heritage and cultural attractions, enabling Yorkshire s region-wide tourism and cycling offer to be further promoted o Communities drawn together across the region, building on confidence created through the Jubilee and Olympics o Artists, audiences and participants inspired and entertained by themselves and others, connected and confidently looking for future platforms and opportunities o New sponsorship, media and tourism partnerships forged, offering potential support for future creative programmes.

14 The Festival is what we make it We will present commissioned and independently produced activity embracing all art forms. The focus will be across Yorkshire, honing in on the race route on race days. o o o o o Around four major commissions Once in a lifetime events with national/international impact Around four animation of the routes commissions High profile, memorable arts experiences along the route Around ten community commissions Community-centred arts activity which responds to the Grand Départ Spotlight on Yorkshire - Peloton Programme New productions or premieres within your organisation s existing programme during the 100 days (preference for new work) Spotlight on Yorkshire - Sportive Programme Existing programming across the 100 days (need not be new work) Applicants must be based in Yorkshire and collaborations are welcomed across the county. These could be with regional, national or international partners.

Proposals that demonstrate an element of match funding are positively welcomed. You must have a track record, or collaborate with a partner who has a track record, of delivering large scale, high quality projects with a national and international significance Detailed expression of interest submission, after discussion with the Festival Director, by 14 October. Your local authority and the landowner (where it applies) must be supportive of your project. Selection by end November. 27 March - 6 July Festival runs - Launch followed by gradual build with big focus on last 21 days.

Awards of 5,000-10,000. Proposals that demonstrate an element of match funding are positively welcomed. Detailed expression of interest by 14 October. Selection by end November. 27 March - 6 July Festival runs - Launch followed by gradual build with big focus on last 21 days.
22 Spotlight on Yorkshire Peloton Programme In the region of twenty Spotlight on Yorkshire Peloton Programme events: o New productions or premieres within your organisation s existing programme during the 100 days (preference for new work) Projects will receive in print and online marketing profile and will use the Festival identity. Expressions of interest by 14 October, selection by end November. NB Focus is on providing marketing and major public relations support, not direct financial support.
23 Spotlight on Yorkshire Sportive Programme Unlimited number of Sportive Programme events: o Existing arts programming across the 100 days. Projects will receive online marketing profile and use the Sportive identity. Expressions of interest by 21 October would be appreciated as it will help the Festival team to identify geographic areas that need more encouragement to register Sportive Programme events. Promotion from late January NB Focus is on providing online marketing support, not direct financial support.
24 Marketing in partnership with you The Festival will have an identity inspired by the Tour de France. Commissions and the Peloton Programme will carry the Festival identity. Sportive Programme events will carry the Sportive Programme identity. Platforms include: o Festival website o Social media o Festival leaflet and flyers o Advertising o Public relations local, regional, national, international - tourist and cultural o Your marketing channels partner support is vital to spread the word.
