As we learn about other people in other places, we can realize that they are more like us than different. The chapter book looks at Carlos, a boy who learns about Christopher Columbus. Classroom Activities/Lesson Plan: Leveled Book: Friends Around the World This story is presented in three leveled text formats: Levels aa, B and C. Select a level appropriate to the student. Description: This story looks at various teens around the world. Are our cultures different or similar? Do a picture walk. Discuss the activities that the people are doing in the pictures. Which of these are activities that you like to do? Read the story as a group. Three levels of reading materials are provided with this lesson. Independent or paired reading will focus on individual reading levels with text or supported text versions. Focus on high frequency words and picture supports.
