1 Todd Family # 124 (TF 124) This family is centered on the John Todd who lived in Nottingham Township, Washington County in SW Pennsylvania. His descendant DNA matches the Todds of Ballycastle, in northern Co Antrim, Northern Ireland which is presumably the origin of this family. Some researchers associated John with the William Todd b 1753/1756 who went to Harrison Co OH and Edward Todd who settled in Steubenville, Jefferson Co OH; others associate William Todd b 1753/1756 Ireland with the Archibald Todd b 1764 Ireland who lived in Flushing, Belmont Co OH by The latter association is based on their being an Archibald Todd and William Todd in Washington Co PA. There is an Archibald Todd in Washington Co in 1800 and 1810, but in Chartiers Township, but there is a William Todd b and a John Todd born prior to 1755 in Nottingham Township, Washington Co., PA. IN 1793, there was a John, William and Edward Todd in Washington County: pp. 35:1793 Nottingham Township - Todd, William; Todd, John; Todd, Edward. Edward sold land to John Todd in John Todd to Adam Gault, Bk ID, p 411 (Film ) John Todd and Rosanna his wife of Notingham Twp Washington Co., PA to Adam Gault of Peters Twp 36 pounds.. land in Peters Twp.. 48 acres..surveyed for John Todd as assignee of Ed Marshall 15 Sept 1784 and 7 Mar warrant issued 16 Sept and called Harlem. 7. 4 The only new info I have on my William Todd and his brother Archibald is more names for William 's children, they were: 1. Elizabeth Todd wife of William Auld 2. Robert Todd husband of Martha Auld who married 1824 in Harrison Co., Ohio, my ancestors 3. Isabel Todd who married James McMillen 4.John Alexander who married Mary Love I do think that William Todd who I believe was born in Ireland, as was his brother Archibald Todd who lived in Belmont Co., Ohio. Harrison and Belmont Co., Ohio are side by side. My William Todd was in the Bedford Co., PA Militia in the Rev. War. William and Archibald are in Washington Co., PA in William has no wife when he comes to Harrison Co., Ohio about 1818 but is in his 60's and brings 4 children with him to Ohio, the youngest one that comes to Ohio is born in There is a possibility that William had children that stayed in PA. William's wife may have been named Isabel, the name carried on in his children. I also believe that Archibald Todd who also came to Ohio about 1818 had his second wife who is buried with him, she was Nancy Archibald, Nancy, William and William's grandson William Todd 's wife Margaret Ann Mansfield Todd are all buried at Nottingham Cemetery in Harrison Co., Ohio. The reason I say this is that Archibald did not have a son named Archibald when he came to Ohio. Archibald Todd researchers that I have talked to tell me that Archibald was worried about carrying on the name of Archibald Todd. Why no son Archibald Todd??? Why was he worried? I have a gut feeling that there is a connection between the SC and OH Todd families. All of the Todds I have mentioned were from Ireland. They could be related or they could just have the most common names in Ireland. I'll bet they were Presbyterian. Have you tried Ships List from Roots web to see if he was a direct immigrant? I will try to forward the web address so that you can join. Warning they come often. I cannot find my Patrick because there are no surviving lists for the 1790's. Have you found any new info on the OH and SC connection? Nothing ever on Ohio, and most of what I found on SC Todds was posted on Todd and on Laurens Genealogy Forums.. Ann Peggy at Note by Richard McMurtry

5 I note that the 1840 census lists a Revolutionary War pensioner in Nottingham Twp, Harrison Co OH namely William Todd aged 84 (born 1756). On the same page is an Alexander Todd b Pennsylvania 1809 with a man years old, presumably William Todd, the Rev. War Pensioner. It would be good to get a DNA sample from this branch of the family. I am not convinced that William Todd b 1756 of Harrison Co OH and Archibald Todd of Belmont Co OH are brothersm but they are both born in Ireland Nottingham Harrison Co OH William Todd (Three sons: 2 b b (Robert b 1797) 1820 Flushing, Belmont, OH Archibald Todd (Archibald over 45, 2M , 1 M , , 2M ) 6 sons: One other son e 1830 Harrison Co OH image 11 of 16 Robert Todd Nottingham, Harrison co OH Nottingham Twp, Harrison Co OH Image 9 of 16 William Todd (william Todd 70-79: born , 2 males John b 1802, George b 1810) 1830 Flushing, Belmont Co OH Archibald Todd image 3 or 20 (Archibald , sons & ) George Todd image 5 of 20 (George , son ) James Todd Image 3 of 20 (James b ) John Todd image 9 of 20 (John b ) 1840 Nottingham, Harrison Co OH Alexander Todd (Alexander b ); There s an Alexander b 1808 PA in MO in 1850 but no young children) (males born and ) 1840 Flushing, Belmont Co OH (George, Archibald and John on same page) Archibald Todd (Archibald Todd b , wife b , male (presumably Matthew) 1840 Flushing, Belmont, OH John Todd (John b , 5 sons born )
