1 St. Francis School Newsletter 25 th November 2016 Value of the month - Respect Dear Parents and Carers, Today in Celebration Assembly we looked at the new Caterham Flag, which was given to all local schools and organisations. We will be finding opportunities to raise the flag over the coming months. Well done to William, whose design came third out of many entries from both adults and children in the local community. This week has been full of wonderful religious experiences for our children and staff! On Monday we welcomed Mrs Sarah Feist, the Primary School Adviser from the Diocese, who joined us to look at RE in the school and to lead a staff meeting. Synagogue Trip: Our year 4 children had an enjoyable and informative time at the Croydon Synagogue this week learning about the Passover. Our thanks to Mrs Fawcett for arranging the visit and to Mrs Barbara Rosen and all at the Synagogue for making us so welcome. Father Simon and Meditation: Today, Father Simon joined us in school to lead a group of Year 6s in Prayerful Meditation. It was a wonderful opportunity to be still in our busy school, to reflect and to pray. The response from the children was so positive that he will be coming in to lead us again! After School Clubs Please be reminded that Cross Country, Rounders and Multi-skills clubs have now finished. RE Questionnaire Many thanks to the 97 parents who responded to the RE questionnaire. We really appreciate you taking the time to fill them in. We have looked at them already and will address any feedback that comes from them. Mrs Fawcett School Photograph orders The deadline for photograph orders, to be collected form school is 9.00am on Monday 5 th December. The photographers will apply a surcharge to any late orders. A Welcome to our Governing Body! We welcome Mrs Kate Ashforth, who joins us as a Foundation Governor, and to Ms Eleanor Hooper who joins us as an Associate Governor. We look forward to working with them both. INCONSIDERATE PARKING! Please DO NOT park in the staff car park unless you are having to use the disabled bays. Inconsiderate parking this week, by a parent collecting children, blocked the entrance to the lower carpark and stopped our cleaners getting in. We do understand the frustrations of the site, but it is never just a few minutes or really quick. Please leave enough time to park sensibly and come in to collect your children. Thank you. Lost Property Elsa clip from Infant Disco from a dressing-up dress - ask at the Office. Three watches These items can be reclaimed from the school office. Free to a good home! One John Fisher School blue and yellow Rugby shirt. Size 36 chest. Used, but in good condition - useful as a spare! Ask at the Office first come, first served! School Council Fundraiser: The School Council is hoping to raise money for a new statue of St Francis for the front garden of the school. As part of their fund raising, they are going to run a children s raffle over the next few weeks. Tickets will be on sale during break times and will cost 50p each. If your child would like to buy a ticket and try to win a prize, they may now bring their money into school. They thank you in advance for your support.

3 Coats Living in Britain, we are never quite sure what the weather will be like. Therefore, please ensure that your child brings in a coat each morning. It is important for children to get plenty of fresh air, so they will still go out in light rain conditions. Pantomime On Monday 5 th December, the whole school will be given the opportunity watch the Hurricane Theatre perform Dick Whittington. There will be no charge for this event. Switching On Cedar Tree Lights Once again, there will be a switching on ceremony for the Cedar Tree Lights on Sunday 27th November. Mince pies, mulled wine soft drinks will be available. St Francis School Choir will be singing, please come along and join in with all the carols. Please remember to bring a torch. Can all Children singing in our choir arrive at the Cedar tree for 5:15pm to sing at 5.30pm. Advent Liturgies: Tuesday 29 th November We have been looking at ways for Parents and Carers to join us at school events more often. As we have expanded in numbers, this makes getting the children, the staff and visiting adults into the Church quite tight. So, for our Advent Services, we are going to try the following: Parents and Carers, you are most welcome to join us for either service. 2pm Infants: Advent Liturgy in the School Hall 2pm - Juniors: Advent Mass in the Church We are aware that this is difficult if you have children in both Key Stages, but it would be wonderful to be able to welcome parents to these celebrations. In Church, the children will sit in the benches in classes. It would be appreciated if you could please allow us to seat all the children first before you find places to sit. If you are able to help walk the children to Sacred Heart, please let the teachers know; they will be leaving school from 1:20. Thank you. This will still allow you time to go up to London to see the Choir, after the Liturgy finishes.) 5 School Association CHRISTMAS FAYRE 2016 APPEALS just over a week to go! Thank you to everyone who has done so much to help already; we still need you! The Grotto Two more volunteers are required to be Santa at the Christmas Fayre. Donations/Loan of the following would be much appreciated: Wrapping paper for the Teachers Secret Santa stall please stfrancischristmasfayre@gmail.com Newspapers We are selling the Surrey Mirror at the Fayre this year to be in with a chance of winning a cash prize and trip to France so if you buy this newspaper or something similar, please hold off the week of the Fayre and buy it on the day from the children who will be selling it! Grand Prize Raffle Big thank you so far for all the raffle tickets that have been sold already. Remember all money raised from the sale of the tickets goes back into the PTA fund to buy extra things for ALL our children! Fancy/Luxury Goods from to Donations of fancy goods required for the popular Secret Santa stall. This stall is organised by the teachers and the children can buy the gifts in order to give to parents, siblings etc. It can be anything - bubble bath, golf balls, scarves, socks and toiletries. House points are given for the class who brings in the most. Jolly Jars from to Prize for the classes who bring in the most jars (one for Infants, one for Juniors). Beauty Room Pine Class are in need of face painters.
