2 This week we have taken part in lessons related to National Anti-Bullying week. The pupils have been thinking very carefully about how to look after one another. Congratulations to the team of year 5 and 6 who competed at indoor athletics this week and have got through to the finals. Hints of Christmas are starting to appear! Please can I remind you all that Next Friday 25 th November is a non-uniform day in exchange for some chocolate that can be used at the Christmas Fete! We have been learning Africa (Year R) Asia (Year 1) Europe (Year2) Australasia (Year 3) Antarctica (Year 4) North In Africa class this week we have been investigating all of the things you can do with a stick. We listened to the story of 'Stanley's Stick' and then made a list of all the things that Stanley pretended his stick could be. In the woods on Wednesday lots of us made fishing rods from the sticks but all we seemed to catch were other sticks or leaves. In Maths we have each made a domino, copying the patterns of spots. On Friday we looked very spotty to raise money for Children in Need. This week in Asia class we have been busy in Maths learning all about money. In Literacy we have learnt about questions, labels and captions. This has helped us label our Starry Night pictures. We have started to look at Monet s Waterlily Pond painting, ready to create our own masterpieces next week. On Thursday we took part in some role play for Anti-Bullying week. We all dressed up in something spotty on Friday for Children in Need. This week we have written the most amazing animal poems using the success criteria we created last week. We had poems about Monkeys, Meerkats, Foxes and even Bats. The best rhyming pair we came up with was vicious and wish us! In maths we have been exploring time and telling the time to quarter past AND quarter to the hour - any practice at home for these concepts would be greatly appreciated. We have also been starting to practice our Christmas Performance, which is going very well indeed. Well done to all the Children who already know all of their lines (and well done to their parents too)! This week we have been practicing some different throws in Netball and having mini competitions between the houses and have been working again on Gymnastics with Mrs Farnell. We have been looking at how to correctly punctuate speech and using speech independently within our writing in Literacy and identifying properties of 2D shapes using feely bags in Maths. We have been working really hard. As it is Anti-bullying week, the children have made excellent posters to promote anti-bullying and strategies to help in the event of being bullied/witnessing bullying and it has to be said that the class as a whole are really mature and have given really sensitive answers. The children have been learning how to use a split screen in I.C.T and as a result can now use 2 programs simultaneously. Very impressive! It's been a wonderful week and jam packed with learning! Our collages are coming along very nicely and starting to resemble an illustration from Leon and the Place Between. We also completed the back covers for our Learning Journals. We learned about diversity as part of our learning for Anti-Bullying week. In Science, we prepared our resources for our experiment to find out which liquid is the most viscous. It was fun wearing something spotty to support Children In Need. We have also written lots of magic-inspired poetry in Literacy and practised partitioning in Maths. This week in North we have been working on Time in maths. We have explored analogue and digital time as well as converting

4 (Year 5) South (Year 6) between 12 and 24 hours. We have also been writing our own problems involving time to test on each other... we had some very tricky ones to solve! In RE we have been looking at what Christians think about God and as part of 'Anti-bullying week' we have been looking at the difference between being rude, being mean and being a bully. We have also been continuing to work on our amazing space adventures, looking at using prepositions to develop settings and using inverted commas to punctuate direct speech. After our wonderful trip to Newhaven Fort, where the children behaved impeccably, we have begun working on recounts of the day. The children are really pushing their writing skills, which is a great thing to see. In maths we have been understanding, describing, making and visualising 3D shape. Family Art Day Thursday 8 th December Two years ago we participated in the Rudgwick Advent event which is happening again this year. Our theme this year is Hark the Herald Angels Sing and we will be decorating the Horsebox accordingly on our evening! (Wednesday 14 th December) After the opening of the horsebox (more details to follow) we will be walking up to the Holy Trinity Church for our KS2 Carol Concert in the evening. In preparation for this event I will be holding a family art day on Thursday 8 th December, where we will be creating angels that light up! I have space for 10 families in the morning and 10 in the afternoon. The idea is that a family member (adult!) comes in and works with their children to create an angel lantern that will become part of the whole school display. You don t need any special skills, just come along and learn something new! If you are interested in taking part please let the office know as soon as possible as the places will be on a first come first served basis. Christmas Lunch The Christmas lunch will be Wednesday 14th December. If your child would like to have the lunch please book it in the normal way via the Chartwells website. If you do not have an existing account with Chartwells, you may book via the school office - please send 2.30 in a named envelope marked Christmas Lunch by Wednesday 23rd November. Please note that we cannot accept orders after this date. All children in KS1 will automatically receive a lunch but if you know your child won t eat it, please let the school office know so that we can reduce the order. Year 4 PE Lesson. Tuesday 22 November Please could pupils bring in trousers, jumper and trainers that can get muddy for Tag Rugby? Thank you. Mrs Farnell.

5 Starting school September 2017 The online application process for children due to start school in September 2017 opened on the West Sussex County Council website on Monday 3 October 2016 and applications must be submitted by the national closing date of 15 January For parents who do not have access to the Internet at home, free access has been arranged at all libraries and Children and Family Centres within West Sussex. Families who reside outside West Sussex will need to apply through their own local authority.
