Bower Place is a psychology, psychotherapy, management, dispute resolution practice established by Malcolm Robinson and Catherine Sanders in 1986 and located in the Adelaide CBD. Services Individual, couple and family therapy, psychological assessment, psychiatry and dispute resolution. Private Practice Bower Place has a qualified and registered psychiatrist, psychologists, social workers and family therapists. Complex Needs Clinic The Complex Needs Clinic (CNC) is a low fee teaching clinic specialising in work with individuals, couples and families with complex problems and training practitioners in therapeutic work with complex matters. Student and trainees work alongside a senior practitioner in every session. Mediation Mediation is a form of Dispute Resolution. The mediator does not impose a solution or decision. The mediator facilitates the exploration of issues to facilitate joint decision making. Corporate Bower provides Employee Assistance Programmes, Critical Incidence Response, Management Consulting, Workplace Dispute Resolution and Corporate Psychometric Assessment. College Bower Place provides a unique learning experience where adult students participate in the working of a real life Complex Needs Clinic working with clients and families alongside experienced practitioners. Skilled senior teachers work in the College, with extensive experience in both teaching and their chosen field. Each teacher has been carefully chosen for their ability to work alongside students and encourage them to be an active member of the CNC in our Family Therapy, Counselling 2 Bower Place Pty Ltd

3 and Relationship Counselling courses. This allows you to gain real life experience during your training, which further readies you for the workplace. Research Bower Place is a research practice and clients of the Clinic may participate in this research. Our current research with the Adelaide University Department of Psychology involves the evaluation of therapeutic practices. Staff Office Staff: Bethany Sersli and Jay Sanders Carly Case - Practice Manager Carly oversees all administration, client/student accounts and staff management. She holds certificates in Frontline Management, Business Administration and Accounts and has over 5 years of experience in office management. All enquires about administration, accounts and the Complex Needs Clinic can be made to Carly. Carly & Catherine oversee all aspects of the training and professional development at Bower Place including courses, workshops and practicums. Sarah Galdes Manager of the Complex Needs Clinic Sarah is the manager of the Complex Needs Clinic P. She has a Diploma in Family Intake & Support Services from TAFE and works alongside Malcolm Robinson as a Clinical Assistant. Practitioners Malcolm Robinson Malcolm is co-founder and Director of Bower Place. He is a Social Worker, Family Therapist and Mediator; an accredited member of the Australian Association of Social Workers and a Member of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators of Australia. Malcolm has 41 years clinical, therapeutic, management and teaching experience across the mental health, welfare, education, disability, correctional and justice systems. Malcolm is a family and systemic therapist with a wide range of clinical and professional knowledge and skill. Malcolm works therapeutically with individuals and families with acquired brain injuries, intellectual disability, mental health issues, drug and alcohol problems, child abuse and industrial injury. He has particular expertise in working with complex, co-morbid, mental health matters, therapy with fractured and fragmented families and working with problems in the context of 3 Bower Place Pty Ltd

4 complex education, health and other service delivery systems. Malcolm teaches clinical practice in all of the VET and Higher Education sector courses at Bower Place. Catherine Sanders Catherine is co-founder and Director of Bower Place. Catherine is a clinical psychologist, registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), The APS College of Clinical Psychologists and a clinical member of the Australian Association of Family Therapists. Catherine has more than 30 years public and private sector experience as a teacher of Family Therapy and as a clinician. Catherine has a specific interest in working with children and their relationships with family, friends and their world. Catherine is a clinical supervisor and lecturer in psychology at all three universities. Marten Johns Marten is a registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and a Member of the Australian Psychological Society. Marten has experience in private and non-government welfare agencies. Marten s therapeutic work focuses on the parent-adolescent relationship, depression, anxiety, sexuality and sexual issues, grief and loss, abuse, drug & alcohol problems and general life choice issues. Marten teaches in the TAFE/Bower Place Diploma in Family Intake and Support programmes and is a co-presenter in the Professional Development Programme. Dr Jordan Bell Jordan undertook her clinical psychology training at the University of Adelaide. She holds a PhD in child educational psychology, with a focus on childhood resilience. Her expertise in psychometric testing has been developed over 5 years of training and practice. Jordan s clinical practice centres on child and family therapy, with a specific interest in educational issues. She takes a systemic approach to therapy, guided by the client s request and drawing on the latest research to ensure that effective assistance and support is provided. She can develop workshops tailored to the professional development needs of psychologists, teachers and other professionals, for delivery in the workplace. Jordan is a co-presenter in the Bower Place Professional Development Programme. Dr Lynette Rose Lynette Rose graduated in Medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1983 and became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP) in Lynette has worked in both New Zealand and Australia, with experience across a wide range of conditions including psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, adolescent psychiatric 4 Bower Place Pty Ltd

5 disorders and intellectual disability. She works with General Practitioners and other health care workers and agencies using a Shared Care or Consultation model of psychiatry. Lynette works part time at Flinders Medical Centre and provides medico legal assessments and consultation to the Courts on the Mental Illness Defence, Fitness to Plead and Stand Trial, and Pre Sentencing Reports. Lynette is involved in training, mentoring and assessing overseas trained psychiatrists as well as local trainee psychiatrists and medical students. She has been an examiner with the College of Psychiatry and assisted in the development of clinical practice guidelines. Lynette will be co-presenting in the Bower Place Professional Development Programme. Carol Manning Carol is a clinical psychologist registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. She has a Master of Psychology degree and is a member of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society. Carol has trained in both cognitive behavioural therapy and family therapy. She aims to provide a collaborative environment in which to help clients, generally adults, move toward helpful changes in their lives. She has extensive experience in both the public and private health sectors, having worked in several hospitals in Melbourne. She has also worked in a specialised eating disorders clinic and with a breast cancer medical team. She enjoys working with adults with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, grief and illness. She has a particular interest in working with women dealing with breast cancer and with adults struggling with eating disorders. Michele Banks Michele studied social work at Flinders University, and health services management at UniSA. She trained in family therapy with Michael White, first in a social work elective and then in his course at Oxford House. Michele worked in WCH CAMHS until 1994, leading the social work group, building capacity in the clinical services for work with refugees and others from CALD backgrounds and developing working relationships and training with community based organizations. She convened the programme for the 1991 national family therapy conference and was president of the Family Therapy Association of South Australian from Since then, she has worked in London, in a range of CAMHS and child protection settings from early intervention to inpatient, with an emphasis on working with adolescents with severe and complex mental health difficulties and their families. The roles have included clinician, supervisor and manager. Most recently, she was involved in an innovative project to bring systemic thinking and practice into child protection decision making and intervention in Hackney, East London. 6 there and in South Africa and Bangladesh as consultant and trainer. She gained an MSc in Systemic Family Therapy and an MA in Medical Anthropology, both from the University of London. She has recently returned to live in Adelaide and work in adult mental health and will be a guest presenter in the Professional Development Programme. Alyssa Sawyer Alyssa undertook her Clinical Psychology training at the Flinders University of South Australia. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology with a focus on social skills. Alyssa is a fully registered psychologist, a member of the Australian Psychological Society, and an associate member of the Australian Psychological Society s College of Clinical Psychologists. She has previously worked in rural settings with adults and adolescents experiencing a number of psychological problems including Depression, Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and relationship issues. Alyssa has an enduring interest in early childhood development and works at the University of Adelaide as a Research Fellow investigating the effect of children s early psychological development on their later wellbeing and achievement. Alyssa s clinical practice focuses on working with children, adolescents and adults using evidence-based treatments, including Family Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, in order to help clients achieve their goals Karen Scott Karen is a registered psychologist who holds a Masters of Clinical Psychology degree and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Karen has experience in public and private mental health settings with a clinical practice which focuses on working with adults with a wide range of issues including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, worry, relationship problems, and illness. She has a special interest in working with people affected by cancer, and helping them connect with their values and live a more fulfilling life. Karen works from a systemic perspective, which recognizes that relationships within families and broader social networks are central to psychological health. She is experienced in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), mindfulness based therapy such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal Therapy. Karen s clients are eligible to claim Medicare rebates when referred under a Mental Health Care Plan by a GP. 6 Bower Place Pty Ltd
