1 The Song Tree Spring 2013 Little Red Riding Hood Tutorial one: I love Red! Hi there! I m Sarah-Jane and welcome to our musical story, Little Red Riding Hood. It s all about a young girl called Red Riding Hood because of the special red cloak she wears. she lives with her mother at the edge of the forest. We re going to be learning seven songs in all and once you know them, you can have lots of fun performing them together prepares for the rest of your school. So, let s start straight away with the first song, which is called Make sure that you can see the words and follow them, as you listen to me singing the opening chorus. It s a song that Red Riding Hood sings. And it s all about her favourite colour I sure you know what it is! Listen carefully! Song 1: Chorus. Presenter. Red! Red! So in the chorus we find learn that red riding hoods favourite color is red. It s your turn now so sing along with the chorus, I ll count you in with a ready and MUSIC CUE: Song 1: Chorus. Singers. Red! Red!

2 Well done! There are a lot of reds in the chorus and some are long notes and some are short. Listen to the last two lines again and see if you can spot which red is long and which is short. I love red. I love red. The first red is a long note, like this. Red. And the last note is a very short one like this: Red! Yellow is the colour of golden corn, And a cute little chick, all fluffy and warm, But there is a colour that I love best,

3 It s so much better than the rest! So this verse is all about another colour that s yellow! There are some fun, jumpy rhythms. Here s one Golden corn. Say it now with me. Golden corn. And this next one here, the rhythm s a bit faster Fluffy and warm. Now your turn to say this. Fluffy and warm That s it! Now let s sing the first verse together. So sitting up and ready to sing? Come in after my count of four. MUSIC CUE: Song 1: Verse 1. Singers. From my knees to my nose, Singer: I hope you enjoyed singing the chorus because now that you know it, there s something we re going to add some actions! So stand up first, ready to practise. When you sing: From the tips of my fingers Shake your fingers go on shake them! That s it! Then, when you sing: To the top of your head.. Touch the top of your head Then, in: From my knees, to my toes, To the end of my nose Touch your knees do this now! Then your toes that s it! Then the end of your nose! Well done! 5 Red! Red! From my knees to my nose, That was great! Relax now and sit down and listen to the first part of our story, Little Red Riding Hood STORY: Little Red Riding Hood: Part One. I hope Little Red Riding Hood has sweet dreams and that she s going to be safe from the wolf! We ll find out next time. But now, we re going to move onto verse two. Have a listen first Song 1: Verse 2. Presenter. Green is the colour of garden peas, And leaves that flutter in the breeze. But there is a colour that s lots of fun, This is the colour that s my number one. We ve got some fast rhythms in this verse and also some slow ones! Listen to this first one. See if you can tell if it s fast or slow. Flutter! Flutter! That s right! It s fast! Let s clap and say it now. Ready? Flutter! Once more Flutter! Great! Now listen to this next one! Is it fast or slow? Breeze! Breeze!

6 This has a slower rhythm! Let s clap and say it now. Ready? Breeze! And again Breeze! Well done! Now let s sing the whole of verse two and go on to sing the chorus. So stand up first. Song 1: Verse 2. Singers. Green is the colour of garden peas, And leaves that flutter in the breeze. But there is a colour that s lots of fun, This is the colour that s my number one. Red! Red! From my knees to my nose, And sit down again. Now it s time for the next verse of the song that s verse three! Listen to me singing it. Song 1: Verse 3. Presenter. Blue is the colour of the summer sky, And blueberries sitting in a blueberry pie, But there is a colour I ll never miss, And this one s right at the top of my list. So our next colour is blue! That s the colour of blueberries yum, yum - and the summer sky! Let s sing all about it now! Ready?

Fantastic and then it s the chorus again, but we won t sing that now. Instead, we ll go on to the last verse of our song - and here Little Red Riding Hood gets a chance to sing about her most favourite colour of all and we all know what that is - red! Now this verse is a little bit different it s to the tune of the chorus and it s a long list of lovely things that are red! There s a ladybird tomatoes, mmm, strawberries, lipstick and crayons! What a wonderful sight! Let s hear all about these red things now! Song 1: Verse 4. Presenter. Ladybird is red, Tomatoes too. Strawberries are red, for me and you. Lipstick is red and crayons are bright, All this red s a wonderful sight! Now it s your turn to join in and sing this wonderful list of red things! So stand up ready! 8 We ve reached the end of our song. Well done! Now, it s time for a music activity, so sit down ready. MUSIC CUE: Music activity music. First of all, your teacher needs to divide your class down the middle into two groups that s group A and group B. So do this now. We re going to take it in turns to sing the chorus, in a round that means that each group sings the same tune, but one group sings just before the other. Group A you re going to start and then Group B you sing next. So first of all group A let s hear you practicing the chorus with the actions really sing out, but remember not to shout! So ready - Group A! Song 1: Verse 4. Presenter. Red! Red! Great! Now, group B it s your turn to practise the chorus see if you can sing just as loudly and clearly as Group B ready? Song 1: Verse 4. Presenter. Red! Red! Fantastic! Now we re going to put these actions together. So group A - you go first and group B I ll tell you when to come in. Song 1: Round. Singers. Group A / Group B come in one bar later. Red! Red!
