6 Each child arrives with their own experiences and is valued as an individual. Building upon their unique personal strengths and experiences promotes a positive self- image and values the child's ideas and feelings. That when we give children labels to the emotions they are feeling we are helping them to acknowledge and manage these feelings. That first hand experiences, both in and out of school, widen a child s knowledge and provide high impact learning. Can Do attitude: we see problem solving as the vehicle for children to learn. We ask questions and encourage them to ask questions to develop creative thinking and the resilience to see things through to a satisfactory conclusion. This may mean working individually or even getting the whole group involved. Promoting independence: we expect children to take responsibility for themselves and each other. We wish to inspire them to make further enquiries and provide them with the skills to do so. Children should be nurtured as independent learners and encouraged to be resourceful. It s ok not to know something, having the confidence that they can/will is more crucial. I know you can t do it yet, but you will be able to do it soon. How can we help you to learn to do it? That parents are a child s first educator and we need to work in partnership with you to maintain a high level of dialogue between home and school in order to benefit your child. When a child experiences the constant respect of others, they can then develop a higher level of self esteem, which is self respect.

14 We believe mark making can happen anywhere. To encourage this we provide opportunities for children to mark make in real life scenarios through play. It is important to value all stages of your child s writing journey from simple mark making, starting to include letters and beginning to phonetically sound out and spell words.

25 Each day a child will be chosen as the Star of the Day This is a meaningful reward and your child should be able to tell you what they have done to gain the Star of the Day. Rewards are not only for academic achievements but could be for anything i.e. listening, joining in, being helpful, being a good friend, trying hard or making good choices etc.
26 We are lucky to be part of such a diverse community at BSM. This is a great learning opportunity for children, can you help us to find out more and celebrate festivals special to your family? Let us know! Oman Cultural Day - Sunday 15 th November, children will be asked to come dressed in Omani national costume or colours of the Omani flag.
27 We would like to sing Happy Birthday to your child in their mother tongue, we will need your help with this! We want every child to feel special on their birthday. We will sing happy birthday at the end of the day. You are welcome to join us at to celebrate with your child and his/her class. You are welcome to bring in small cupcakes or a small birthday treat.
28 We encourage children to be independent at snack time. Please make sure they can open their snack box and the food containers within it. Please make sure you include fruit, vegetables and a healthy drink in your child s snack box.
29 The library session for Nursery classes is on Tuesdays. Available after Eid.
30 A diary of your child s interest, experiences and progress through out the Nursery year. This is a collaborative record and we encourage all parents to contribute pages about your child s significant achievements at home. WOW slips

33 Working in partnership. Parents are a child s prime educators, what we learn from each other will have a huge impact on your child s education and learning capacity. Talk to your child about their learning Read with your children at home Encourage your child to have a healthy snack at Snack Time, this supports our Healthy School s status Let us know who is taking your child home (sign notice on the notice boards) Label ALL your child s clothes Spare clothes Pick your child up on time at 12.30pm
