School Website THE SCHOOL DAY Doors open : 8.50am Morning Session : 8.55am (Break 10.30am 10.45am) Afternoon Session : 1.00pm 3.00pm The school s responsibility for the children starts at 8.50 am. Please do not leave children unsupervised in the playground. Teachers will be in class at 8.50am. You may use this time to have a quick word with the adult on the playground. If you need a longer discussion, please make an appointment for a mutually convenient time. School finishes at 3 o clock. Children are brought to their class door by their teacher. Please ring if you know you are going to be late or if someone else is going to pick up your child. If you know in advance please leave details in the Going Home Book available with adults on the morning playground. We will not allow any child home with a different adult if we have not been notified by the parent/carer.

2 WE RUN A VARIETY OF CLUBS AFTER SCHOOL These are the clubs that will be available this year. Clubs run by the school will be sending out information. Clubs run by external providers will leave information in the office or provide us with letters to send home. If you are interested please keep a look out in your child s book bag or ask at the office for information. 3 ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY The school is required to submit absence returns to HCC on a termly basis. Any child who has less than 90% attendance will automatically be considered cause for concern and further steps may need to be taken. It is very easy to run up 10% absence if children are taking regular days off. As an example - 80% attendance is the same as 9 WEEKS absence by the end of the school year. You might think that 95% attendance sounds quite good but that still means your child has had 2 WEEKS off school during the year. Persistent absence has a negative effect on children s learning and friendships. Please help us to do the very best for your child by ensuring s/he attends school on a regular basis. Thank you for your support. If your child is unwell, please telephone the ( ) or send a message via a friend. The school will contact you on the first day of absence if we have not heard you. Children should ONLY be kept off school if they are unwell or have a medical appointment, as even short absences school can cause children to miss vital teaching time. Please try to make dentist and non-urgent doctors appointments at the end of the school day. It is essential that children arrive at school on time. Not only are they embarrassed by a late arrival but they may miss information about the day and some or all of their phonics lesson / small group work. Leave of Absence New guidance Government means that children will not be allowed to take holidays in term time. The new Leave of Absence form is displayed by the. Please look at it or speak to Mrs Broach, Headteacher, if you need to take your child out of school. Permission will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and even then only if the child has a good attendance record. Regi Bear You may hear your child talk about Regi Bear. We have introduced him as an incentive for good attendance. The class with the best weekly attendance will keep him for that week. As I m sure you are aware, regular attendance plays an important part in your child s social and intellectual progress..

4 FROM THE OFFICE Breakfast Club money. If your child has a breakfast you may pay by cheque (made payable to HCC) or cash. If you are paying cash please try to enclose the exact money in an envelope clearly marked with your child s name and class. We also ask that breakfast money is paid during the week in which meals are taken, or you may pay in advance. Breakfast Club costs 2.50 Free School Meals All infant age children are entitled to a Free School Meal as September Important notice: Pupil Premium Funding The school receives additional funding for children who are eligible for FSM/Pupil Premium money. If you are in receipt of one of the following, your child might be eligible for the additional funding. This entitles your child to extra curriculum support, educational resources and other valuable resources that will make a real difference to their education: Income Support Job Seeker s Allowance Child Tax Credit Hampshire County Council Catering Services (HC3S) has launched a new online service so parents can check their eligibility for free school meals. The website address is All you need to do is enter your name, national insurance number or asylum number, your address and your child s details. Press submit and you will find out if you are eligible. If your result comes back found, this means your child is eligible for free school meals and the system automatically tells your school. Packed Lunch Children may bring a packed lunch but we have a NO NUTS OR NUT PRODUCT policy. We also ask that children do not bring sweets or fizzy drinks. We need one week s notice to change school dinners to packed lunch or vice versa.

5 Uniform Sales The office staff are happy to help but they can give you more time if you come at the end of the school day rather than in the morning when there is often a long queue! Before your child starts school, while you are attending our pre-school Rainbow sessions, you will have your own special shopping session where you can browse the uniform shop at leisure! TRAVEL Parking As an Eco School we like to encourage everyone to walk to school. However, we do realise that this is not always possible because of distance school or work commitments. Because of this, and because of the difficulties parking around the school we have set up a Park and Stride scheme with EHDC which allows limited free use of Victoria Road Car Park a few minutes walk school. If you would like more details please ask at the. Scooter Park Please remember to walk the scooter straight to the park when you arrive at school. We are really pleased that so many children are scooting to school (remembering to wear a helmet), but we have had a few problems where children have taken the wrong scooter home. This is understandable as many of them do look alike. Please can you name your child s scooter so that it is clearly visible. The scooters are private property so children must not play with them before or after school. Scooter pegs are available on playgrounds. If you have a child in Year 1 or 2 and Year R they can leave their scooter in Year R. We would prefer children not to bring bikes as the scooter racks are not designed for bikes. Birthdays Birthdays are very exciting when you are 5/6 and 7 years old and we understand that children like to share their birthday with their friends in school. We realise that buying sweets for the children in the class is a kind gesture, but we do not allow this as so many children have allergies. We would like to offer an alternative which would be a more permanent reminder of that special day. Why not buy a book for your child s class.

6 Health and Medicines The school needs to know if your child has an infectious illness. The Headteacher has the final responsibility for deciding when a child may return to school after an infectious illness. If you are unsure how long to keep your child off school, you can get advice the school office. If your child needs to take prescribed medicine 4 times a day but is otherwise well enough to come to school, the medicine will be administered at lunchtime by a member of staff. Medicines must not be given to the child but handed to the Admin r by an adult and an authorisation form must also be signed. Children who suffer asthma should keep a blue inhaler in school, clearly marked with the child s name. You will need to complete a consent form giving details of dosage and frequency of use. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY OF ANY CHANGES IN YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS. PE Kit Your child needs shorts, red T shirt and plimsolls or trainers in a named bag. Earrings must be removed or covered on PE days, other jewellery must not be worn to school at any time. Please note we will notify you when it is time to provide plimsolls or trainers. Please name all your child s clothing including PE kit. Sew in labels are time consuming but they are the best! If you write your child s name in pen please remember to check occasionally. Book Club We run a book club for children every Wednesday morning between You can buy stamps in small denominations and save up for a book.
