1 Grade 7 Christ Our Life Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the close of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 Lesson 1 Introduction and Chapter 1 Read T1 The Impact of Jesus: Jesus Son of God Go over T2-T4 in order to have a better understanding of what the lesson will be about. Created for Love Who am I? Discovering God s Gift and Created in the Image and Likeness of God (pages 1-3) Objectives: Introductions: Get to know each of the students in your class and let them get to know you through the IceBreaker questions. This is a great time to by silly and get everyone having fun! Get them excited about spending a year learning about who Jesus is explain that this is only a taste because our whole lives are a journey where we continue learning about Jesus and getting closer to him. Identify who Jesus is: Son of God, true God and true man; and discuss what that means for them in their lives. 1. Break the Ice: 10 min - choose 2 questions! make sure you answer them too! At the end ask them: If you could ask Jesus anything about himself what would you ask? a. Questions: i. What is your least favorite bug? ii. If you could only eat one food and drink one drink for the rest of your life what would you choose? iii. If they made a movie of your life, who would you choose to play you? iv. If you could visit any place in the world that you ve never been before where would to go and why? v. If you had to live in a cartoon which would you choose? vi. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? vii. What is one of your irrational, weird fears? viii. If you had a time machine to travel back to any time in history where would you choose and why? b. Do the activity listed on T5, number 2 2. Break for a video 10 minutes (20 minutes) - at this time, we will gather in the main area and watch the Created for Love video of the day. 3. Created for Love pages minutes (35 minutes) Return to classrooms and discuss the video

2 4. T8 number minutes (50 minutes) Have several students read Who is Jesus on page 5 and lead them in a discussion about who Jesus is. a. Make the connection that if we are created in the image and likeness of God, we learn so much about who we are and who we are meant to be by learning about Jesus. That is why this is so important. b. Ask them who Jesus is for them? What impact does Jesus have on your life? 5. Pick a challenge to do as a group for the next week we will talk about them the next week!: a. Pray the Our Father every morning when you wake up for the next week b. Pray the Jesus prayer Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on my a sinner. Every night this week. 6. Pray: Invite the students to close their eyes and open their hands on the laps. Lead them in a few deep breaths to quiet them. Lead them in A moment with Jesus on T9/pg 6 student work book. After leaving a time for silence lead them in this prayer: 7. Extra Time: if you have extra time go over the Chapter Summary on T10 have them close their books and make it a competition by splitting the group into 2 teams!

3 Lesson 2: Chapters 2-3 T12 T14 and T22-T24 Review how to look up scripture verses in a Bible we will be using Bibles this week! Objectives: See that Jesus is completely human that he did the human things they do: eat, breath, go to the bathroom, have parents, have friends etc. Show that Jesus eagerly desires to be their friends discuss what that means Discover how we can learn about who Jesus is through Scripture; especially the Gospels. : 1. Review Challenge 5 minutes - talk about who did it, how it was hard, how it was good etc. share your experience as well. 2. Sharing 15 minutes T15 numbers 1-3 and 5. a. Use the T15 to help you guide them through the reading in the workbook on page What is a Friend activity pg 12 (T16) discuss answers. 10 minutes (15 minutes) a. When was a time you experienced the support of a true friend? please feel free to share a time when a friendship helped you in some way. 4. Invitation to Joy pg 13 (T17) 10 minutes (25 minutes) a. Jesus wants to be your friend what do you think about that? 5. Getting to Know Jesus 20 minutes (45 minutes) a. Is knowing a friend important? If Jesus wants to be your friend, what are some ways you can get to know him? b. We are going to get to know Jesus through the Bible today. The Bible is God s word and in the New Testament there are the 4 Gospels which are all about Jesus life! c. T26 Review how to locate a Scripture reference assign each student one of the verses from Who Is This Jesus have a race to see who can find the scripture verses fastest and have those who finish first help those who are having trouble go around and have each of them read their verse! d. As you go through each verse, invite them to comment on what that means for them in their life. If Jesus is this what does it mean for you? 6. Challenge 5 minutes (50 minutes) a. Propose picking a Gospel to read through for the next couple of weeks and read a few chapters: for example: Read the first 2 chapters of the Gospel of Mark by next class. b. Start a Prayer Journal and write in it once a day be honest in it and tell the Lord what is really going on in your life good or bad, serious or silly. 7. Pray 5 minutes (55 minutes) a. Lead the students in this short Prayer: Dear Jesus, Thank you for this day. Thank you for bringing each person to this class this year. Thank you for the chance to get to know you more, especially through Scripture. As we take a moment to pray with your words, I ask you bless each of these students and help them know you more. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will enter his house and dine with him and he with me. (take a moment of silence) Jesus, help us to hear your voice, and let you into our hearts. Amen.

4 Lesson 3 Chapters 5-6 T1 numbers 5 and 6 T40-41 and T48-T50 Created for Love pages 4-5 Objectives Introduce them to the Infancy Narratives and explain their importance. Encounter Mary as the Mother of God and our Mother, someone we can learn from and love. Learn about Jesus mission, his temptations in relation to our mission and our temptations and sins. : 1. Review Challenge 5 minutes - Talk about how it was good, hard etc. 2. Sharing 10 minutes (15 minutes) - T43 3. Mary a Listener 15 minutes (30 minutes) T45 (pg37 for the students) a. Follow the guides for discussion on T45 numbers 6 and 7 4. Created for Love Video gather in the main area - 10 minutes (40 minutes) 5. Created for Love Text What is a Vocation 15 minutes (55 minutes) allow them to discuss the video what are some things they struggle with? a. T 53 have volunteers read the Messiah s Test b. Jesus is human! He knows what it is like to go through temptations and struggle against bad things He can help us get through our own struggles through the Sacraments, through prayer, through people in our lives like our friends, parents, teachers, priests etc. And just like Jesus had a mission when he was on this earth, so do each of us and part of that mission is our vocation! 6. Challenge a. Pray the Hail Mary every morning for the next week. b. Every night think about how you were tempted the moments you chose God and the moments you didn t pray to Jesus for strength and forgiveness. c. Read 2 chapter from one of the Gospels. 7. Pray: End class with the Hail Mary thanking Jesus for his Mother as our example and our mother!

5 Lesson 4 Review game We will have a friendly competition class against class! I will forward you the material for the game the week before. Lesson 5 Chapters T85 numbers 10 and 11 T86-T88; T96-T98 Created for Love page page 6 Character Building: Virtue vs. Sin Objectives: Explore the different ways Jesus shows us who he is through the parables and through miracles. Gain an understanding that the Kingdom of God is present now. Become aware of the importance of faith by looking at the faith of those who were helped by Jesus. 1. Review Challenge (5 minutes) if you re reading a Gospel book talk about it what you read and what it means for our lives right now. 2. Stories that Teach and How a Short Story Works T minutes (15 minutes) go through the 10 questions about the parable in How a Short Story Works. 3. Kingdom Parables T 92 assign a parable to each student (or 2) and have them answer the question you can always make it a race to spice things up! 20 minutes (35 minutes) 4. Acts that Teach T99 5 minutes (40 minutes) Jesus taught by words with parables and teaches by deeds with miracles. 5. Challenge 5 minutes (45 minutes) a. Share a story about Jesus with someone a family member or friend about how Jesus has impacted your life. b. Do a good deed for someone cleaning the dishes, cleaning your room, tutoring a friend, sitting with someone who sits alone, helping a teacher etc. write about the effect it had on you and the person you helped. c. Continue reading the Gospel, 2 more chapters this week! 6. Created for Love Character Building: Virtue vs. Sin large group 7. Pray: A Moment with Jesus T 102 we will do this as a large group

6 Lesson 6 Chapter 13 T85 numbers 13 T114-T116 Created for Love 6-13 Objectives: Reflect on the responsibility we have toward other people and nature Explore the Beatitudes and discuss practical ways to live them. : 1. Review Challenge 5 minutes 2. Fullness of life 10 minutes (15 minutes) - do the activity out loud having the kids share and discuss their answers (T117) a. Have someone read the paragraphs following the discussion 3. Created for Love Large group leading into small groups 45 minutes (Created for Love pages 6-13) 4. Challenge a. Continue reading the Gospel 2 more chapters! If you re feeling really empowered try reading 3 chapters this week! b. Pray the Our Father every morning and the Hail Mary every night. c. Pray before you eat every meal even at school. 5. Pray: A moment with Jesus T 120

7 Lesson 7 Chapter 14 and Christmas Supplement Preparation T85 number 14 T124-T126 and T300 Objectives: Study one of the ways Jesus teaches us how to gain happiness the Beattitudes Talk about how they can apply to our own lives. Do the Christmas Supplement. 1. Review Challenge 5 minutes 2. Sharing T minutes (20 minutes) - Begin the Conversation: ask what are some things we need to be happy/some things that make them happy. a. Ask for a volunteer to read the first page (skip Called to be Happy ) T T128-T minutes (40 minutes) - You can divide the Beatitudes among the group or even pair with another class if you would like to go over them. Discuss how each can apply to their life! 4. Challenge a. With Christmas coming up we can read the Nativity Story in Luke 2:1-20 and/or Matthew 1:18-2:12 (chapters 1 and 2) b. Pick one Beatitude as a class and decide one thing you can do during the next few weeks to practice it. Encourage them to journal about it so they remember how it went for when you meet again! 5. Christmas Presentation main area or Church. 6. Pray: A moment with Jesus T129/pg 116

8 Lesson 8 Chapters 15 TBD possibly a guest speaker! Created for Love and Review Game Created for Love pages Objective Introduce the different Vocations priesthood, marriage, religious life Discuss how we can prepare for our vocation now and how our vocations are our path to heaven. Give the kids time to pray about what God is calling them to right now as middle schoolers. : 1. Review Game 20 minutes - I know it s been a while since classes met ad have been regular BUT let s have a little fun! 2. Created for Love: Vocations 20 minutes (40 minutes) a. We will have a short presentation on Vocations upstairs followed by a time of discussion and then of prayer. b. Discussion: use your Created for Love books to read through them as a small group/class. I will provide a list of questions for you to use to encourage discussion. 3. Pray 20 minutes We will guide the kids through a time of prayer, a time to experience the Lord.

9 Lesson 9 Chapters 18 and 19 Preparation T157 numbers 18 and 19 T ; T Objectives Enflame a desire to become more like Jesus in the hearts of the students. Talk about life as a journey and how God helps us through the obstacles of life he never abandons us. 1. Review: talk about how the lesson was last week. 5 minutes a. What did you guys think of the talk about vocations last week? How did it impact you? How was the time of prayer for you? 2. Sharing - T162 numbers 1 and 2 15 minutes (20 minutes) 3. Life as a Journey T minutes (30 minutes) - instead of having them write out answers briefly discuss them as a group encourage conversation a. After you read and discuss Life as a Journey transition with this: Life is a journey - our journey to heaven, our journey with Jesus. Sometimes there are obstacles in this journey. What kind of things are obstacles on our journey with Jesus? (sin, friends, suffering, sadness, etc.) encourage conversation 5 minutes (35 minutes) b. T171 invite someone to read Glory through Suffering and Faith Builders 10 minutes (45 minutes) c. Jesus does not leave us alone in our suffering. He gives us grace which is a free gift of his love that helps us through obstacles and brings us closer to him. Some ways He gives grace through the Sacraments and prayer. He gives us the virtues! Turn to T165 and invite someone to read about the Theological Virtues and the Cardinal Virtues. 10 minutes (55 minutes 4. Challenge: a. Pick a Cardinal Virtue as a group to pray for and pick one way to practice it! b. Pray for those who have died every day this week. 5. 10 Lesson 10 Sacraments and Celebrating and Living our Faith T352-T354 Objectives To present give the students the tools they need to live their Catholic faith every day through the Sacraments Encourage a love and appreciation for the Sacraments as well as learn more deeply what they are. To Be Determined!

11 Lesson 11 Lent Supplement Preparation T306 Objectives Gain an understanding of what the season of Lent is and how we can use it to prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus Encourage the students to enter into Lent in a new way this year. 1. Follow the guides offered on T308 T310 enter into discussion take your time! a. What do you know about Lent already? b. How has Lent been for you so far? c. If you haven t done anything for Lent- I encourage you to begin today (Please be sure to do A moment with Jesus!) 2. Lenten Challenge this challenge will last until Easter and you will have the opportunity to talk about it every week. a. Give something up unnecessary Internet, your favorite piece of clothing, a food that everyone likes b. Do something extra pray for 5 minutes more every day, go to Mass every Sunday if you don t already, Pray 3 Hail Mary s every day, collect money for a charity of your groups choice c. Do both! wake up 10 minutes earlier than you normally would (sacrificing sleep) and pray (extra prayer!) etc. 3. Pray say an Our Father as a group.

12 Lesson 12 Chapter 21 Preparation T157 number 21 T184-T186 Objectives See Jesus as a model for suffering discover what we can learn from his suffering and death 1. Review the challenge. 2. Follow Chapter 21 lessons (T187- TT191) as it is laid out in the Teachers book. Follow their prompts and reflections. You do not have to do anything titled Option but if you feel like it will add to your class please feel free to do it! 3. Do In The Garden option on T Pick a challenge

13 Lesson 13 Holy Week and Stations of the Cross We will do Stations of the Cross as a group the assignments for your particular group will be sent to you before! Lesson 14 Chapter 22 and Easter Supplement Preparation T57 number 22 T194-T196; T3320 Objectives Celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus!!!!! 1. Review Lenten challenge 5 minutes - how did it help you understand what Lent was? 2. Victory 15 minutes (20 minutes) talk about that word for a little while what does it mean? Is it a big deal or not? a. Dictionary.com says a success or triumph over an enemy in war. b. Google says an act of defeating an enemy or opponent in a battle, game, or other competition. c. It is Easter, Jesus has risen from the dead! 1 Corinthians 15:57 says thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is VICTORIOUS. i. Based on the dictionary definition of victory what do we know about Easter? What/Who did Jesus triumph over? (Easter is a celebration of Christ s triumph over death. Death no longer separates us from God. Jesus offered one Sacrifice for all of our sins so that our sins and our death would not keep us from God. Hebrews 10:12-24 says that Jesus offered one sacrifice for all our sins. Jesus is victorious over sin, over death, over Satan.) d. What do victories usually result in? (A celebration! We should be celebrating this victory! And we do at every Mass, every time we pray, every time we go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation etc.) 3. He is Risen T minutes (30 minutes) do Bible activity as well 4. Jesus Glorified and The Risen Jesus (T 198 numbers 4 and 6) 10 minutes (40 minutes) 5. The Risen Jesus and Believers and We Experience the Risen Jesus and Signs That He Is With Us. T minutes have volunteers read them, or read them out loud yourself. 6. Challenge How can you as a group make the resurrection of Jesus more real in your day to day lives? a. Pray the Glory Be every morning and Night b. Make something up as a group! c. Continue reading the Gospel 2 chapters.

Go over the Fruits of the Holy Spirit aka the good things that come from having a relationship with the Holy Spirit 1. Review challenge 5 minutes 2. Ascension: Jesus is Lord and Missioned to Make a Difference T minutes (15 minutes) 3. Begin covering Chapter 23 (T207- T211) as laid out in the Teacher s book. 35 minutes (50 minutes) a. Throughout the lesson, highlight that Jesus does not leave us alone to fend for ourselves, even though he ascended into heaven, he sent the Holy Spirit to guide us, love us and continue to teach us! 4.
