1 Materials supplied: 1. (1) Radiator Equipment needed: 1. Assorted sockets and wrenches 2. +,- Screwdriver 3. Assorted pliers/ Clamps 4. Drain pan 5. 1 gal. Antifreeze/ Water 6. Automatic Transmission Fluid REMOVAL: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS STILLEN RADIATOR TITAN / ARMADA / QX56 P/N WARNING: IF YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCED IN THE AREA OF AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS WE STRONGLY URGE THAT YOU REFER THIS INSTALLATION TO YOUR MECHANIC. CAUTION: Do not remove the radiator cap if the engine is hot. SERIOUS BURNS CAN OCCUR. Wait until the engine is cold to begin removal. Figure 1 1. Unbolt the 4 bolts shown in Fig.1 to remove the bottom cover. 2. Remove the drain plug and drain the engine coolant. (Fig.2) 3. Remove the engine cover and disconnect the hoses going to the intake tube baffle. Then remove the intake tube. (Fig.3) Figure 3 Figure 2 Rev C 3/19/2014 Page 1 of 7

2 Figure 4 4. Remove the radiator cap. Also, disconnect the reservoir tank hose and the upper and lower radiator hoses. (Fig.4) Make sure to place the drain pan underneath to catch the remaining fluid in the hoses. Try to avoid splashing the fluids on the drive belts. 5. Disconnect the lower automatic transmission fluid hoses. (Fig.5) Make sure to clamp the hoses beforehand to prevent leakage. 6. To remove the lower fan shroud, unclip the tabs from the upper fan shroud and the radiator and pull it out and down. (Fig. 6) 7. To remove the upper fan shroud, unbolt the 2 bolts pull up. 3 Figure 8 8. For ample room to remove the radiator, you will need to remove the fan from the engine. (Fig. 8) Unfasten the 4 nuts and slide the fan forward to remove. 9. Unbolt the 2 radiator mounting bolts located on the upper core support. (Fig. 9) 10. Remove the 2 air conditioner condenser bolts and brackets (Fig. 10) and pull up on the radiator to remove its lower pins from the condenser. 4 11. Lightly push the radiator towards the engine and unfasten the automatic transmission oil cooler bolts. (Fig. 12) Then lift the cooler to remove it from the radiator slots. (Fig. 13) 12. Raise the radiator to remove it from the vehicle. 13. Remove the 2 foam pieces from the radiator and set aside. These will be reused for the new radiator. 14. Clean all dirt/debris from the radiator mounting points. Figure 12 Figure 13 INSTALLATION: 1. Insert the automatic transmission oil cooler into the slots on bottom of the new radiator. Then slip the pins on the bottom of the radiator into the openings on the condenser. (Fig. 14) 2. Fasten the automatic transmission oil cooler to the radiator with the stock bolts. 5 Figure Position the condenser bracket on the radiator and fasten with the stock bolts. (Fig.16) 4. Secure the radiator with the stock bolts on the upper core support. (Fig.17) 5. Reconnect the lower radiator hose and the lower automatic transmission hoses. (Fig.18) The clamps used to prevent automatic transmission fluid leakage can now be removed. 6. Place the lower fan shroud into the radiator slots. (Fig.18) 7. Reinstall the fan. Make sure to tighten the nuts in even increments, otherwise the fan mount will seat crooked. 8. Fasten the upper fan shroud to the radiator with the stock bolts (Fig.19) and clip the tabs into the lower fan shroud. Figure 17 Figure 19 Figure 18 Rev C 3/19/2014 Page 5 of 7

6 WARNING!: The performance radiator is double the thickness of the OE radiator which increases cooling dramatically. However, it also reduces clearance between the fan and the fan shroud. You MUST carefully check this clearance prior to starting the engine. Additionally, the engine will move with hard acceleration and if the clearance under idle is small we suggest trimming the shroud to ensure adequate clearance under all conditions. We also suggest that all shroud connection points be checked for security and firm attachment. Fan contact with the shroud can damage or destroy your new radiator and that is not covered under the manufacturer s warranty. Figure Connect the upper radiator hose and the reservoir tank hose. Trim the reservoir tank hose as needed for fitment to the new radiator. (Fig.20) Make sure the hoses are clear of all moving parts. 10. Reinstall the intake tube and connecting hoses. 11. Reinstall the foam pieces on both sides of the radiator. (Fig.21) 12. Refill the radiator with the old coolant, unless it has been contaminated. Then top it off with approximately 1 extra gallon of coolant. Also, refill the automatic transmission fluid. Figure 21 INSPECTION: 1. Visually inspect all hoses and connections for leaks. 2. Start and warm up the engine. 3. Again, check for any engine coolant or automatic transmission fluid leaks. 4. Done! Enjoy the performance of your new Stillen radiator. Rev C 3/19/2014 Page 6 of 7

7 Steve Millen Sportparts Tech Tip Vacuum Purge Your Cooling System Dear STILLEN Customer, Thank you for your purchase of the STILLEN performance radiator. We know it will provide years of service if properly installed and with proper maintenance. Please review our installation instructions for the proper safety requirements during the removal and replacement process. We would like to emphasize when installing your new radiator that you must use a 50 / 50 mixture of distilled water and an antifreeze coolant recommended by the OE manufacturer of your vehicle. If this is not done it will shorten the life of the radiator and will void your warranty. We also strongly suggest that after the radiator is completely installed, the hoses are connected and you add the coolant then you evacuate / purge all the air out of the cooling system by placing a vacuum on the system. This can be accomplished using commonly available tools (usually called a COOLING SYSTEM VACUUM PURGE & REFILL KIT). Two examples of the kits available are listed below: UView Airlift Cooling System Leak Checker and Airlock Purge Tool Kit FJC Coolant Vacuum Kit A good purge kit will cost between $50 and $100 but will extend the life of your radiator and protect your warranty. If the air is not removed you may experience a sudden pressure increase caused by coolant hitting a superheated air pocket in your cooling system, flash boiling and sending a jet of steam through the system into the radiator. This will greatly increase the pressure in the radiator (from 15 PSI to 60+ PSI is a second) which can cause radiator tubes to rupture, tube-header solder and/or welds to crack and leaks of coolant. This would not be considered a manufacturing defect of the radiator and will not be a warrant event. Again, we thank you for purchasing a performance radiator from Steve Millen Sportparts, Inc.
