Optional tours A specific optional tours program has been tailor-made for regularly registered participants and accompanying persons. These visits will be an excellent opportunity to discover some of the most outstanding artistic and historic highlights of Paris and its surroundings. The accompanying persons registration fee include the Orientation City Tour. Other visits are optional. Be guided through the intensity and richness of culture and taste the Parisian art-de-vivre! 4 Orientation city tour (morning tour) The Arc de Triomphe, Chaillot Palace, the Eiffel Tower, The Military Academy and the Invalides, the immense Place de la Concorde, the Louvre Museum, the Opera House and the famous Champs Elysées are the most marvelous monuments that one can admire. 5 Walking tour of Montmartre (afternoon tour) A visit to the "village" of Paris. From the famous Place du Tertre, the home of many painters, walk through the narrow streets bordered by ancient houses to discover a vineyard, a windmill, a cabaret, a museum. On top of this village, you can discover the Sacred Heart Basilica. Up the winding stone stairs or using the Funicular (unique in Paris), from the top of the hill you will be able to discover a panorama of Paris and many of its monuments. 6 Walkingtour of Ile de la Cité(morning tour) The towers of the Conciergerie, which can be seen from the banks of the Seine river, remind us that our first kings built their first fortress here. In the Middle Ages, the Palace, renamed "la Conciergerie " was used as a prison and a courthouse. It contains remarkable medieval gothic vaulted rooms, some of which were the jail cells of Marie-Antoinette and Robespierre during the French Revolution. On the side of the Conciergerie, the 13th century church of Sainte Chapelle is a masterpiece of gothic art and its stained glass windows are outstanding. Our visit will end at Notre Dame, one of the greatest cathedral of France. 7 Walking tour of Le Marais district (afternoon tour) Stroll in the Marais district and discover its renovated superb 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries "hôtels particuliers" (private mansions). Stay a while in the heart of the Marais, at the Place des Vosges", with its remarkable arcades and elegant apartments, where Victor Hugo lived. Visit of the Carnavalet museum which is The Museum of the History of Paris from Henri the IV's time until nowadays. The two musts are the revolution rooms as well as the ones recalling the 19th century period. 8 Walkingtour of Mouffetard district (morning tour) Situated in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, on the fringe of the Latin Quarter, the Mouffetard district has many restaurants, shops and cafés. The district has become increasingly the "done thing" to live in this area which was always very popular. You can discover the houses renovated on the Place de la Contrescarpe surrounded of fashionable restaurants. The slopes of the Rue Mouffetard have always been very animated, rich in colour ; twice a day it becomes an open-air street market covered with fruits, vegetables, fish and flowers. The Saint-Etienne-du-Mont Church. It contains not only the shrine of Sainte Geneviève but also souvenirs of Pascal and Racine, and is one of the only Churches in France to have kept its wooden screen. 9 Versailles (afternoon tour) At the time of Louis XIV, Versailles was not just the capital of France. It was also a town which was a great deal larger than it is today. The royal family and the Court resided here along with numerous traders and artisans, and it was during the period that the center of France revolved around its Sun King. It is for this reason that the Château is so immense as it was necessary to provide accommodation for everyone, welcome them, support them and feed them. The visit of the Royal Apartments retraces these sumptuous period in the history of France. The Hall of Mirrors, famous for the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, was used for larger receptions during which Louis XIV would wanted to impress his guests. The tour of the Château will end with a visit of Marie-Antoinette s private apartments. 10 Saint Germain des Près (morning tour) This old quarter on the Left Bank is known for its beautiful church as well as for its narrow streets, antique shops, restaurants, cafés and cellars. The church, the oldest in Paris, and the abbatial palace are all that remain of the famous Benedictine abbey. 11 Louvre museum(afternoon tour) The Louvre, fortress and then Royal Palace has been a National Museum since 1793, and since 1988 has been embellished with a Glass Pyramid facilitating circulation within the museum; The Louvre is one of the largest and richest in works of art throughout the World. Drawings, antiquities, sculptures; the quality and sheer variety of its contents are simply astounding. Next to the well-known master-pieces such as Mona Lisa and the Venus of Milo, expanded art collections are displayed. 12 Giverny and Rouen (Full daytour) Depart early morning in direction of the Capital of upper Normandy Rouen. Visit the city with an english speaking guide who will show you the Cathedral, Saint Maclou Aster, Rue du Gros Horloge and the Sainte Jeanne d arc Church; master pieces of this graceful city. Lunch en route. The afternoon will be dedicated to the visit of Giverny, temple of the impressionist movement, where Claude Monet settled at the end of his life. You will visit his house restored with the furniture and bright colors of the time and see his collection of Japanese prints. As you stroll through the French and Japanese gardens both created by Monet with impressionist colors, you will arrive at the lilypond that provided the inspiration for his last works of art. 13 A dayin Champagne (Full daytour) Depart from Paris by coach through the roads of "la Marne" to the cemetery of "Bois Belleau commemorating the terrible battles of World War I. Arriving at Epernay, we will visit the cellars and taste the famous champagne of Moet & Chandon. After lunch, we will follow the road crossing the "mountain" of Reims to see the world famous vineyards. At the end of the route is the capital of the region, Reims. We will visit its superb cathedral where the French kings were crowned. Then we will continue on to the Basilica saint Remy to seen the coronation place of the first Frankish king Clovis.
