Book Key online access code NB: Your COURSE CODE to help you log in is: CGGT369 Course Description In Elementary French we will discover and study basic vocabulary and grammar. By the end of the semester you will have the ability to greet each other, speak about hobbies, family, friends and careers as well as ask general questions about your surroundings. Each new subject will incorporate lessons in speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will be tested on grammar and vocabulary from Modules 1-6 of the textbook. This course meets the requirements for the Core Perspectives on the Human Condition language component or Humanities degree requirement. Instruction Methods This is a lecture course that relies on attendance and group activities. Throughout the semester we will use the textbook to organize lessons and you will work with each other to practice your new skills. Memorization is an important part of the class and we will review material each morning and take regular quizzes. I plan to record certain activities on video so we can see our personal improvements by the end of the semester. Outside of the classroom, you will use the ilrn Learning Center to complete homework on the lessons of the day and you will use the textbook to future lessons.

A A B B C D F 0-60 A B C D C D Participation: (10%) Some group activities will be performed in front of the class and I plan to record them so we can watch ourselves progress. Homework: (20%) To complete your homework you have to use the ilrn learning center which is online: All homework must be submitted before the next class. You will have an average of about 20 minutes of homework per night. Quizzes: (15%) These are used as a warm up and review at the beginning of class. They won t take more than 10 minutes. Test: (40%) Each chapter will include a final chapter test. There will be up to 6 tests this semester. They will cover writing, reading, speaking and listening activities. 3 3 Prerequisites: None, this is a beginner s class for French. Actually, if you already have some substantial knowledge of French, you should take French 201 or above. Ask the instructor if you are unsure. Attendance: You are allowed two unexcused absence, which won t affect your grade. For every following unexcused absence your final grade will drop by 2%. You can also arrive tardy two times and your grade will not be affected. From then on, two tardies equals one unexcused absence. Make-up work: Homework: You must have your homework submitted before the start of class. For every day it is late, the total score you can receive drops 10% Quizzes/Tests: Quizzes cannot be made-up after they have been given unless your absence is excused. Tests can be made up one week after they were given if you schedule a time with the instructor during his office hours. Extra Credit: There will be at least one opportunity for extra credit to take the place of a missed quiz, a low quiz score, or to improve an attendance score. Support Services Resources: The students will be able to use the services of a free French tutor at the language lab (Gruening 609). The instructor will post the hours in class. Disability Services: The Office of Disability Services implements the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and insures that UAF students have equal access to the campus and source materials. ENTERING THE BOOK KEY AND COURSE CODE Enter the book key and course code to complete the enrollment process. You may already have a book key, or you may need to purchase a book key. Depending on your situation, use one of the procedures below. If you activated the book for a previous course, you can start at step 5 of I already have a book key below. Once you have completed this step, the system lists the course and book on the Student Workstation home page. To enter additional books, enter a book key in the Enter field and click Go. Note: Book keys can only be used once. Your book key will become invalid after you use it. I already have a book key 2. Enter your username and password and click Log in. 3. At the top of the page, enter your book key and click Go. 4. Click Confirm to confirm your registration information. Your book will appear under the My books heading. 5. Beside the book listing, enter the course code CGGT369 in the Enter course code field and click Go. 6. If necessary, select a class or section and click Submit. I need to purchase a book key 2. Enter your username and password and click Log in. 3. At the top of the page, enter the course code CGGT369 and click Go. 4. If necessary, select a class or section and click Submit. The course and books will appear under the My classes heading. 5. Locate the book and click buy. 6. Proceed through the purchase process.
