1 NEC Express 5800 Basic Rate The NEC Express5800 Remote Access Server is a fully integrated and tested communication server that links remote clients, telecommuters, and branch offices to the corporate network using analog and digital connectivity over the public telephone network or virtual private networks through a secured tunneled connection over the internet. The Express5800 RAS Server uses an open system approach based on industry-standard Intel microprocessors and Microsoft Windows NT software, providing superior adaptability, drastically reducing learning curves for faster deployment and ease of management. The Express5800 BRI RAS Servers are the ideal solution for network environments requiring remote connections handling up to 16 digital or analog calls concurrently. 4 VIRTUAL MOTIONS REMOTE ACCESS MANAGER SOFTWARE FEATURES Remote Access Manager is a complete software solution specifically designed for network administrators or ISPs responsible for running a mission-critical dial-up network based on Windows NT. Remote Access Manager adds a powerful layer of resource management, access control, and usage accounting to the native Windows NT remote access service (RAS). Remote Access Manager provides a comprehensive set of resource management and access controls which you can use to define RAS policies. You can define separate policies for different groups. Remote Access Manager provides complete RAS usage accounting, reporting, and event logging. PORT ACCESS CONTROL Through the use of access control lists (ACLs), the network administrator specifies which users or user groups are granted access to a given port. RAS LOGIN CONTROL Network administrators can disable the ability of remote users to perform RAS logins using the same Windows NT user account name. PORT SESSION CONTROL Enables the network administrators to specify the maximum idle and connect time for any one RAS session. Automatically disconnect users for prolonged inactivity, or if connected for an excessive periods of time. PORT RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Enables the network administrator to set limits on the total amount of connect time any user or user group can have. 5 REMOTE SYSTEM ACCESS REQUIREMENTS Remote systems need to be connected to the corporate network running either the IP or IPX protocol. IMAGINE LAN CONFIGSAFE SOFTWARE FEATURES imagine LAN s ConfigSafe software tracks changes to configuration information and can restore your Express5800 Remote Access Servers to a previously working configuration. Changes to critical information about the remote system configuration are tracked using the following categories: File Information System Information Drive Information Directory Information Registry Information System Asset Information PROFILES Profiles define the specific information (files, assets, directories, and Registry keys) tracked for your system s configuration. Default profiles are provided by ConfigSafe. Profiles can be customized/managed by the user with the ConfigSafe Desktop Edition Profile feature. SNAPSHOTS Snapshots represent the periodic or on demand capturing of your system s configuration information (as previously defined in the Profile). This information is captured and saved for use in comparing changes over time, or to restore your system to a specific configuration that has been previously captured in a Snapshot. Snapshots are typically labeled with a description and the date and time of the capture. SNAPSHOT SCHEDULING Snapshot Scheduling is used to automatically perform Snapshots at periodic intervals such as daily, weekly, monthly, etc. This helps to ensure that your most recent working configuration is captured in a Snapshot for use by the Restore function if your system develops a problem. ON-DEMAND SNAPSHOTS On-Demand Snapshots are taken by the user at any time to record the current system configuration. MANAGE SNAPSHOTS Manage Snapshots enables the renaming, deletion, exporting/importing of Snapshots. RESTORE Restore allows a remote client to be returned to a previously taken Snapshot. UNDO Undo allows the reversal of reverse the results of a Restore process and return to the configuration in place just prior to using Restore. REPORT Report creates a comparison report of the configurations captured in two different Snapshots or a comparison report of your current configuration and a Snapshot. The report can be either printed or viewed online. 5
