2 Welcome to Holy Saviour, Sugley. We say the words printed in bold together Christ has brought us out of darkness; to live in his marvellous light. Grace, peace and light be always with you. And also with you. GREETING LIGHTING THE ADVENT WREATH Today we remember Jesus who is the light of the world; Jesus is our way. With Jesus even dark places are light; Jesus is the truth. In Jesus we shall live for ever; Jesus is our life. Maranatha, come Lord Jesus; Jesus, be with us today. Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to you. Make us your own, your holy people, light for the world to see. Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness. Christ, be our light! Shine in your church gathered today. Longing for peace, our world is troubled. Longing for hope, many despair. Your word alone has power to save us. Make us your living voice. Longing for food, many are hungry. Please forgive us and help us to love you and other people more and more. Amen. The priest gives the absolution, assuring everybody of God s love and forgiveness May God, who loved the world so much that he sent his Son to be our Saviour, forgive you your sins and make you worthy to serve him in the world, through Jesus Christ our Lord. 4 THE CHRISTMAS CRIB The figures are brought forward by the children to place in the crib. The baby Jesus is brought last, after which we give thanks to God for the gift of his Son Father we give you thanks and praise through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Jesus is the Son of God. We worship and adore you. Jesus loves us and forgives us. We worship and adore you. Jesus is our friend and our brother. We worship and adore you. Jesus is the Light of the world. We worship and adore you. Lord, the light of your love is shining in the midst of the darkness, shining: Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us; set us free by the truth you now bring us: shine on me, shine on me. Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father s glory; blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light! Lord, I come to your awesome presence, from the shadows into your radiance; by the blood I may enter your brightness: search me, try me, consume all my darkness: shine on me, shine on me. 5 As we gaze on your kingly brightness so our faces display your likeness, ever changing from glory to glory: mirrored here may our lives tell your story: shine on me, shine on me. ADDRESS, followed by PRAYERS Everlasting Father, as we approach Christmas we remember a crowded town and a dirty stable. We lift to you all those who live where it is cramped, and especially children who are born into poverty. Jesus, Light of the world, shine in our hearts today. Wonderful Counsellor, we remember frightened shepherds and a new mother in a strange place. We lift to you all those who need counsel and comfort, and especially children who have seen violence. Jesus, Light of the world, shine in our hearts today. Prince of Peace, we remember an occupied land and a difficult journey. We lift to you all those who must overcome conflict and fear, and especially children who have been injured. Jesus, Light of the world, shine in our hearts today. 5

6 King of Kings, we remember a manger and an obscure birth. We lift to you all those who are forgotten by the world, and especially children whose futures are fragile. Jesus, Light of the world, shine in our hearts today. God of all hope: with us, in us and for us; give us your hope, love and courage this Christmas; that we might work with all our strength to see and end to poverty, in Bethlehem and throughout the whole world. Amen. THE LORD S PRAYER Awaiting his coming in glory, as our Saviour, the Light of the World, taught us, so we pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. LIGHTING THE CHRISTINGLES The children are invited forward to take and light a Christingle. Please make sure your child holds it carefully so that no-one is hurt! When they are all lit, we sing The Christingle begins with an orange, like the world which the Lord God made. By the fruits of the earth in their seasons, we can see the love of God displayed. 6

7 Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle, it s the light of Christ. Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle, light of Christ. God of love, we give thanks now for Jesus; we remember his birth again. But the red ribbon round the Christingle tells the story of his cross and pain. To complete the Christingle: a candle, shining out in the darkest night. Jesus promised to lead us and guide us; come and celebrate the world s true light! Amen. Go in peace, spread the good news, and live in the light of Christ. Thanks be to God. Colours of day dawn into the mind, the sun has come up, the night is behind. Go down in the city, into the street, and let s give the message to the people we meet. So light up the fire and let the flame burn, open the door, let Jesus return. Take seed of his Spirit, let the fruit grow, tell the people of Jesus, let his love show. FINAL SONG 7

8 Go through the park, on into the town; the sun still shines on; it never goes down. The light of the world is risen again; the people are darkness are needing a friend. Open your eyes, look into the sky, the darkness has come, the sun came to die. The evening draws on, the sun disappears, but Jesus is living, his Spirit is near. So light up the fire and let the flame burn, open the door, let Jesus return. Take seed of his Spirit, let the fruit grow, tell the people of Jesus, let his love show.
