1 Bridges: Assessment Assessment is the process of gathering information in order to make decisions. Evaluations is a step beyond - where we assign a rank, level, score, or grade to the information that has been collected. Competencies and Experiences charts in the Appendix sections of each Getting Started Guide give information about what is expected of Grade Level Students and are based on research that has been distilled through NCTM. There is also a Math Skills and Concepts Continuum shown in the appendix to help communicate to parents where their student is succeeding on grade level expectations. Kindergarten Getting Started Guide (GS) Directions for each assessment are on the yellow pages Pre-Assessment Baseline Assessment (available on the MLC website Grade K support page Spring 2010) Assessment BL.1,2 Assessment BL.3,4 Assessment BL.5,6 Assessment BL.7,8 Counting, Shape Recognition & Days of the Week (Interview 1); Use in late Fall Determining Quantities to 10, 20, 20 (Interview 2); Use in late Fall Recognizing Relationships, Classifying Shapes & Naming Coins (Interview 3); Use in late Winter Sets & Number Sentences, Number Patterns & Coin Counting (Interview 4); End of the school year Assessment BL.9 Shape Sorting (Assessment Worksheet 1); Anytime after Session 12 Assessment BL.10 Sorting Bugs (Assessment Worksheet 2); Anytime after Session 20 Assessment BL.11 Sets & Numerals (Assessment Worksheet 3); Anytime after Session 43 Assessment BL.12 More or Less (Assessment Worksheet 4); Anytime after Session 50 Assessment BL.13 Patterning & Numeral Writing (Assessment Worksheet 5) Anytime after Session 71 Observations Suggestions can be found throughout Volumes One and Two created by teena.staller@medford.k12.or.us 11/16/2009 1
