2 STAIRNOSE MOULDING Stairnose Moulding Installation on flooring with an overall thickness of up to 19 mm (0.75 ). Stair Riser Release Paper Stairnose Surface Roughened up with Sanding Sponge or Sandpaper Install the riser flush to the stair. Clean flooring and moulding with a damp cloth (water only) to remove all dust and residue. Let dry before applying adhesive. Turn Stairnose over and roughen the inside surface of the Stairnose to increase bond by means of 60 grit sandpaper, sanding sponge, or a metal brush. Then, gently peel the release paper all the way off the adhesive tape. The purpose of the double-sided tape is to secure the moulding firmly in place until the premium polyurethane construction adhesive totally cures. Caulk Gun Adhesive Next, apply a generous bead of a Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive along the entire inside corner. Be sure to overlap the tape with the adhesive Underside of moulding generously covered with adhesive Bottom of Stairnose Stair Riser Step 4 Touch the bottom of moulding to the stair riser and carefully roll the Stairnose in place. Make any final adjustments before you push the moulding all the way down. Once it s in the final position, press down firmly with your hands and make your way down the entire Stairnose. It may take 2 or 3 passes to set it firmly in place. Adhesive Stair Riser Step 5 For Low Traffic, let the adhesive cure for at least 1 hour before walking on it. 7 Transition Moulding Transition - OPTIONAL DOWEL INSTALLATION Roughen up surface that comes in contact with glue NOTE: Transition Dowels are sold separately. Please contact your Sales Representative to order. 1.5 Side View of Transition Moulding Center one dowel Turn the transition over and use a sanding sponge, metal brush or 60 grit sandpaper to roughen up the surface to increase the bond on the side where glue will be applied. Each dowel tree (sold separately), contains 8 dowels. Carefully cut or break dowels off of tree. Slide one dowel into moulding groove and position in center of moulding. Insert additional dowels from both ends. Space dowels 11.5 apart and 1.5 from ends. NOTE: Dowels have to fit tightly for the moulding to function properly. If you find the dowel is too difficult to slide in, take 100/120 grit sandpaper, lay it flat on a surface and sand down the dowel head slightly with a couple of passes. 2 Pencil marks *If the flooring manufacturer suggests/permits the use of underlayments, you may need to shim the track to accomodate the increase in overall thickness Install the flooring planks*, by leaving a inch (25mm) gap for the installation of the moulding. Draw a line on the flooring for the placement of the holes. Using a drill bit, pre-drill holes into the flooring 2 deep. Be sure to use the same measurements as the dowels, keeping the holes 11.5 apart. With a pencil, mark on the floor where each dowel is located (You will need these for Step 7). Pencil marks should be about from the pre-drilled holes. NOTE: Be sure to vacuum pre-drilled holes. This end of the transition MUST be placed on the lower of the two surfaces. Pencil marks Step 4 Carefully line up dowels with pre-drilled holes. Make adjustments to the dowel positions on the moulding if needed. 4 of 8

8 Transition - OPTIONAL DOWEL INSTALLATION Push down directly over dowel at a time Side View of Hand Positions First pass () Second Pass () Third Pass () Forth Pass () NOTE: Do not try to push the entire molding in all at once by just pressing it in from top! This will bend the dowels. Step 5 Using both hands, start at one end and gently push moulding down. Make sure dowel is straight and that you apply pressure directly over dowel. The best position is to hold dowel with pointer and middle fingers and push down with thumbs. Moving down the moulding again, push the dowels in the floor at a time. It should take several passes to push the moulding all the way down. PUR-Glue adhesive About 3/8 (9.5mm) First pass () Second Pass () Third Pass () Forth Pass () Fifth Pass () Step 6 Once moulding is about a finger s width from the floor (about 3/8 or 9.5 mm), insert the tip of a glue gun under 1 edge of the moulding. Apply Liquid Nails or any polyurethane constructive adhesive along 1 side of the flooring. NOTE: Make sure you apply adhesive to ONLY 1 side of the moulding and that all surfaces that the adhesive touches is dust and debris free. Pencil marks Step 7 When finished applying adhesive, start again at the beginning of the moulding and push dowels all the way in until moulding is secure. Once moulding is in place, use a rubber mallet to tap on the top of each dowel. Use the pencil marks to reference where each dowel is located. 5 of 8

Draw line on flooring for hole placement. Using a concrete drill bit pre-drill 2 deep holes using same measurements as dowels. With pencil, mark on floor the location of each dowel. BE SURE TO VACUUM PRE-DRILLED HOLES. Lay a flat object over flooring and measure from the concrete at the center between the flooring up to the bottom of your object. This will give you the distance to use on the Dowel Cutting Template below. Use the Dowel Cutting Template to the right to find your measurement on the template and lay your dowel over the number that matches your distance measurement. With dowel on template, use a utility knife to cut dowel as indicated on Dowel Cutting Template. Repeat with all dowels that are to be used. Turn the transition over and use a sanding sponge, metal brush or 60 grit sandpaper to roughen up the surface to increase the bond on the side where glue will be applied. FOR CONCRETE ONLY! Dowel Cutting Template Distance Measurement 3/4 NO CUT 5/8 1/2 3/8 1/8 Slide dowels into groove on bottom of the transition moulding and position them according to template. Line up dowels with pre-drilled holes. Adjust dowels as needed. 6 NOTE: Dowels have to fit tightly for the moulding to function properly. If you find the dowel is too difficult to slide in, take 100/120 grit sandpaper, lay it flat on a surface and sand down the dowel head slightly with a couple of passes (See Detail A at the right). DETAIL A First pass () 7 Second Pass () Next Passes () About 3/8 (9.5mm) 8 PUR-Glue adhesive Pencil marks Using both hands, start at one end and gently push moulding down at a time. It should take several passes to push moulding all the way down. Best hand position is holding dowel between pointer fingers and pushing down with thumbs directly over dowel. DO NOT TRY TO PUSH ENTIRE MOULDING IN ALL AT ONCE. When moulding is a finger s width from the floor, insert tip of glue gun under one edge of moulding and apply a polyurethane construction adhesive along one side of the flooring. MAKE SURE YOU APPLY ADHESIVE TO ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE MOLUDING AND THAT ALL SURFACES THAT THE ADHESIVE TOUCHES IS DUST AND DEBRIS FREE. When finished applying adhesive, start again at beginning of moulding and push dowels all the way down until moulding is secure. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap on top of each dowel until molding sits flush. Use pencil marks as reference. 9 6 of 8
