1 Model 1255 Hercules Series Outdoor, Heavy Duty Pan/Tilt Installation and Operating Instructions This manual describes the installation and maintenance procedures for the American Dynamics Model AD1255 Hercules Series outdoor, heavy duty, pan/tilt unit. Before installation, become familiar with all of the features and warnings associated with this equipment. Once installation is complete, store this manual in a safe convenient location for future reference.

For specific recommendations refer to the IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS sheet packaged with this product. 7 DESCRIPTION Figure 1 - AD1255 Pan/Tilt Unit DESCRIPTION The AD1255 Pan/Tilt unit is designed for heavy duty load capacity of up to 90 lbs. Mounted up-right or inverted, the NEMA-6 outdoor rating and the 90 pound load rating remain the same. The side load design of the AD1255 provides easy balancing of the camera load. With the load mounted close to the center of gravity, the AD1255 provides extremely smooth movements, low power consumption, and low profile design. The synchronous motors and gear drive provide high torque to over-come natural conditions such as wind, ice, and snow. The AD1255 also provides a heater option for operation in sub-zero climates. In applications requiring presets, order the AD1255 with factory installed feedback potentiometers. 8 INSTALLATION INSTALLATION Only qualified service personnel familiar with all local building codes should attempt this installation. Safeguards must be taken to avoid unintentional operation by employees and maintenance personnel working about the premises. Routine Maintenance Although the AD1255 contains no user-serviceable parts, American Dynamics recommends checking the following on a routine basis. One month after installation and every six months thereafter, check the tightness and security of all external fastenings Row E Row D Row C Row B Row A Assembly As shipped from the factory, attaching of the camera platform to the AD1255 body is the only assembly required. The camera platform height adjusts for fine tuning the camera s center of gravity to the center line of the tilt axis shaft. Four positions are possible (see Figure 3). Camera Platform, Front Determine if the camera platform will be mounted upright or inverted to the AD1255 body. Insert three Allen-head bolts through the steel spacer and through the desired openings in the camera platform (see Figure 2). Secure the three allen-head retaining bolts. 9 INSTALLATION Mounting The AD1255 base plate connects to the bottom of the motor assembly. Two separate hole patterns in the base plate simplify installation (see Figure 4). All mounting holes (eight total) are 0.35 inches (9mm) in diameter 85 mm 3.35"! CAUTION Inspect the mounting surface around the proposed installation site. The mounting surface must be capable of supporting 16.5 pounds (7.5Kg) plus any additional weight of the camera and installation hardware. Inspect the mounting area around the proposed installation site looking for wires, pipes, or obstructions that interfere with the installation mm 2.83" Secure the base of the AD1255 to the mounting surface with four 8mm bolts. Use whichever hole pattern (see Figure 5) best fits the mounting surface. Mount the AD1255 with the camera lens facing the center of the intended pan axis viewing arc (see Figure 5). Do not rotate or position the AD1255 Pan/Tilt unit by hand. Doing so will permanently damage the gear drive. 10 CONNECTIONS CONNECTIONS Connection Details The table below shows gauge wire versus the maximum distance allowed between the pan/tilt and the voltage controlling box. AWG 24VAC 115VAC NOTE: Distances shown are in feet Distances are for solid copper cable Power source is ± 10% 7-Pin Connector Assembly Slide parts (1), (2), (3), and (4) (see Figure 6) over the cables outer sheath. Strip the outer sheath 0.75 inches from the cable end. Strip each conductor s insulation 0.25 inch from the end Pin Connector Assembly Slide parts (1), (2), (3), and (4) (see Figure 7) over the cables outer sheath. Strip the outer sheath 1 inch from the cable end. Strip each conductor insulation 0.25 inch from the end. Crimp (preferred) or solder conductors to the socket/pin contacts. Note that the (5) and (5a) ground connections are pins and the remainder are all sockets. Starting in the middle of the pin/socket housing (6), insert the socket connectors (5), making sure that each socket locks in place inside the housing. Draw the locking ring (4) over the cable sheath and over the fully assembled cable sleeve (3). With a screwdriver, push the contact insert against the spring in the locking ring (4). Lock by rotating the locking ring to the right. Screw the cable strain relief (1) into the locking ring (4) ensuring a good seal at the cable sleeve (3). Tighten the retaining screws on the cable strain relief (1). The 13-pin connector plug disconnects the 1255 from the supply circuit and must be easily accessible at all times. 5a 2 1 Pressing Screw 2 Thrust Collar 3 Gasket Solder conductors to socket contacts. 11 ADJUSTMENTS ADJUSTMENTS Pan/Tilt Adjustments Location Securing Screws Access the pan/tilt axis limit switches by loosening the four 6mm allen bolts on the back cover (see Figure 10). These bolts are captive to the outer cover. The pan/tilt axis limit switches are found on the top gearplate of both pan and tilt gearboxes. The limit strikers are located on the end of each axis main shaft. Limit adjustment The limit switches are adjusted with finger pressure. Push the limit switch in the desired angular position for limit control of the Right/Left (Pan axis), and/or the Up/Down (Tilt axis) direction. Replace the cover and tighten the four 6mm bolts.
