2 A POLICY FOR CAREERS EDUCATION, INFORMATION, ADVICE & GUIDANCE (CEIAG) This plicy reflects current practices as f September 2014, which fllw the Careers guidance and inspiratin in schls dcument (statutry guidance) published by the DfE in April 2014 Ratinale A yung persn s career is the prgress they make in learning and wrk. All yung peple need a planned prgramme f activities t help them chse pathways that are right fr them and t be able t manage their careers and sustain emplyability thrughut their lives. Schls have a statutry duty t prvide careers educatin in Years 7-11 (1997 Educatin Act, 2003 Educatin Regulatins) and t give students access t careers infrmatin and impartial guidance (1997 Educatin Act, 2008 Educatin and Skills Bill). Henley in Arden Schl ffers Careers Educatin and Guidance thrugh the pastral system, curriculum areas, utside agencies and CSWP (frmerly the Cnnexins Service). The prgramme is designed t help yung peple make infrmed decisins abut their future careers and t aid the develpment f the skills necessary t accept and adapt t change. It is the aim f the schl: T enable the student t develp a self awareness f their strengths and skills T encurage the student t make decisins based n knwledge and understanding T prvide accurate infrmatin in a number f different frms f media and in a variety f styles in rder that all abilities may have access t that infrmatin. T make students aware f the resurces, bth material and human, which are available. T link with curriculum areas t access knwledge f skills used in different careers. T increase awareness f the wrld f wrk thrugh industrial links, wrk experience and talks by adults frm utside agencies. T enable yung peple t plan fr their future ecnmic independence. T heighten the awareness f students f the pprtunities available t them when they cmplete their educatin pst 16 via: fr example; CSWP (Cnnexins Service) Talks by parents, ex pupils, representatives frm educatin establishments, the lcal cmmunity and industry Interviews with the CSWP Persnal Adviser, Melanie Mills Up t date infrmatin Taster visits t ther establishments e.g. Aim Higher / ACE days Careers cnventins e.g. Skills West Midlands / The Skills Shw T supprt students with their transitin frm Key Stage 3 t Key Stage 4 and frm secndary educatin t their chsen destinatin. 2
3 Cmmitment The schl will undertake t prvide: Impartial Infrmatin Advice & Guidance as part f the Careers Educatin Prgramme The schl is cmmitted t prviding a planned prgramme f careers educatin and infrmatin, advice and guidance (IAG) fr all students in Years 7-11, in partnership with the lcal Cnnexins Service. The schl endeavurs t fllw the Natinal Framewrk fr CEG in England (DfES, 2003), the Yung Peple s IAG Standards (DCSF, 2007) the statement f careers educatin principles (DCSF, 2008) and ther relevant guidance frm DCSF, QCA and Ofsted that appears frm time t time. Student Entitlement Statement Students are entitled t CEIAG which meets prfessinal standards f practice and which is persn-centred, impartial and cnfidential. It will be integrated int students experience f the whle curriculum and be based n a partnership with students and their parents r carers. The prgramme will raise aspiratins, challenge steretyping and prmte equality and diversity. It is differentiated and persnalised t ensure prgressin thrugh activities that are apprpriate t students stages f career learning, planning and develpment. This statement is designed t help yu understand the type f help yu can expect t receive. Yu will: Have advice and supprt frm staff such as yur frm tutr, Head f Year, PSHE teacher and Careers C-rdinatr. Be shwn hw t use the Careers resurces in the Careers Office. Have access t the Careers Office (when staffed). Have access t a range f cmputer supprt prgrammes t aid identifying strengths and career planning e.g. - Kuds Have grup/individual access t the Persnal Adviser linked t this schl (when brught in n an ad hc basis). Have the pprtunity t meet adults ther than teachers. Take part in a wrk experience scheme. Preparing yu t make infrmed decisins abut yur future is an essential part f yur PSHE and tutrial prgramme. Such preparatin is designed t enable yu t: Make decisins abut yur chice f GCSE subjects. Develp a grwing self-awareness f yur strength and skills. Develp the skills needed t apply fr jbs and t be interviewed. Make use f a cmputer guidance prgramme. Gain knwledge f a wide range f further and higher educatin, training and career pprtunities. 4 Implementatin / Prcedures Management The careers prgramme at KS3 and KS4 is c-rdinated by the Careers c-rdinatr. (Mr. Seán Taylr) Mnitring f the prgrammes is the respnsibility f the Faculty Head fr Scial Studies (Line manager fr Careers) (Mrs. Laura Laszcz) This area is supprted by a link gvernr. (Dr. Karen Williams) The careers c-rdinatr is respnsible fr the wrk f the administratin staff. (Dnna Reynlds) Wrk experience is planned and implemented by the wrk experience c-rdinatr. (Mr. Seán Taylr) Staffing All teaching staff cntribute t CEIAG thrugh their rles as tutrs and subject teachers. Careers infrmatin is available in the Careers Office which is maintained by the Head f Careers. Staff Develpment Attendance at Careers updates and meetings as necessary. Curriculum Careers lessns are part f the schl s PSHE prgramme and as such are planned, resurces and mnitred by the Careers c-rdinatr. The careers prgramme includes: Careers educatin sessins, Career guidance activities (grup wrk and individual interviews), Infrmatin and research activities (in the Careers Office and nline), Wrk-Related Learning (including ne week wrk experience), and Individual learning planning/prtfli activities. Other fcused events, e.g. a higher educatin / jbs fayre are prvided frm time t time. Wrk experience preparatin and fllw-up take place in PSHE lessns / assemblies / tutr time and ther apprpriate parts f the curriculum. Students are actively invlved in the planning, delivery and evaluatin f activities where apprpriate. Mnitring, Evaluatin & Review The Partnership Agreement with CSWP is reviewed annually, althugh CSWP are cntracted by Warwickshire Lcal Authrity t wrk slely with students at Henley in Arden Schl wh are classified as Risk f NEET (Nt in Educatin, Emplyment r Training) (RONI) Any further wrk cmmissined thrugh CSWP is privately arranged n an ad hc as yu need basis. Mnitring meetings are cnvened annually with the link gvernr as part f the nging mnitring and evaluatin prcesses. Actin research evaluatin f different aspects f CEIAG is undertaken regularly. 4
