1 San Angelo Independent School District Bus Barn Concrete VERBAL BID INVITATION #16-03 The San Angelo Independent School District is accepting Verbal bids, requiring a written price proposal, to add a concrete slab at the entrance to the Bus Barn shop bays. There will be a pre-bid site visit on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the SAISD Transportation Department, 1725 Saint Ann. Bids will be received in the Purchasing Department, 1621 University, San Angelo, TX until 2PM, Tuesday, May 10, This is a Verbal Bid FAXED BIDS WILL BE ACCEPTED at Immediately upon receipt of any faxed bid, the Purchasing Clerk/Secretary will place said bid in a sealed envelope to be opened at the designated date and time. Construct formwork, shoring and bracing to conform to design and code requirements; resultant concrete to conform to required shape, line and dimension. E. QUALITY ASSURANCE 1. Owner will engage a testing and inspection service for quality control testing during construction. F. COORDINATION 1. Coordinate this Section with other Sections of work which require attachment of components to formwork. 2. If formwork is placed after reinforcement resulting in insufficient concrete cover over reinforcement before proceeding, request instructions from Engineer. II. PART 2 PRODUCTS A. WOOD FORM MATERIALS 1. Form Materials: At the discretion of the Contractor and as approved by the Engineer. B. FORMWORK ACCESSORIES Concrete Formwork
3 1. Form Release Agent: Colorless mineral oil which will not stain concrete, or absorb moisture, or impair natural bonding or color characteristics of coating intended for use on concrete. 2. Corners: Fillet, Chamfer, rigid plastic or wood strip; as required. 3. Nails, Spikes, Lag Bolts, Through Bolts, Anchorages: Sized as required, of sufficient strength and character to maintain formwork in place while placing concrete. III. PART 3 EXECUTION A. EXAMINATION 1. Verify lines, levels and centers before proceeding with formwork. Ensure that dimensions agree with drawings. B. EARTH FORMS 1. Earth forms are not permitted. C. ERECTION - FORMWORK 1. Erect formwork, shoring and bracing to achieve design requirements. 2. Provide bracing to ensure stability of formwork. Shore or strengthen formwork subject to over stressing by construction loads. 3. Arrange and assemble formwork to permit dismantling and stripping. Do not damage concrete during stripping. Permit removal of remaining principal shores. 4. Align joints and make watertight. Keep form joints to a minimum. 5. Obtain approval before framing openings in structural members which are not indicated on Drawings. 6. Provide fillet and chamfer strips on external corners of beams, joists, and columns. D. APPLICATION - FORM RELEASE AGENT 1. Apply form release agent on formwork in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. 2. Apply prior to placement of reinforcing steel, anchoring devices, and embedded items. 3. Do not apply form release agent where concrete surfaces will receive special finishes or applied coverings which are effected by agent. Soak inside surfaces of untreated forms with clean water. E. FORM CLEANING Concrete Formwork
4 1. Clean forms as erection proceeds, to remove foreign matter within forms. 2. Clean formed cavities of debris prior to placing concrete. 3. Flush with water or use compressed air to remove remaining foreign matter. Ensure that water and debris drain to exterior through clean-out ports. 4. During cold weather, remove ice and snow from within forms. Do not use de-icing salts. Do not use water to clean out forms, unless formwork and concrete construction proceed within heated enclosure. Use compressed air or other means to remove foreign matter. F. FORMWORK TOLERANCES 1. Construct formwork to exceed required site tolerances. G. FIELD QUALITY CONTROL 1. Inspect erected formwork, shoring, and bracing to ensure that work is in accordance with formwork design, and that supports, fastenings, wedges, ties, and items are secure. 2. Notify Engineer and Owner 48 hours to inspect work prior to placing concrete. H. FORM REMOVAL 1. Do not remove forms or bracing until concrete has gained sufficient strength to carry its own weight and imposed loads. 3. Loosen forms carefully. Do not wedge pry bars, hammers, or tools against finish concrete surfaces scheduled for exposure to view. 4. Store removed forms in manner that surfaces to be in contact with fresh concrete will not be damaged. Discard damaged forms. END OF SECTION Concrete Formwork

6 1. Fabricate concrete reinforcing in accordance with TxDOT Standard Specification Item Reinforcing Steel. III. PART 3 EXECUTION A. PLACEMENT 1. Place, support, and secure reinforcement against displacement. Do not deviate from required position. 2. Do not displace or damage vapor barrier. 3. Accommodate placement of formed openings. 4. Maintain concrete cover around reinforcement as follows: Condition Concrete not exposed to earth and weather Concrete exposed to earth and weather Concrete cast against and permanently exposed to earth Concrete Cover 1.5 inches 2.0 inches 3.0 inches B. FIELD QUALITY CONTROL 1. Inspect reinforcement to ensure that work is in accordance with design, and that supports, ties, and items are secure. 2. 7 SECTION CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE I. PART 1 GENERAL A. SECTION INCLUDES 1. Cast-in-place Concrete. B. MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT 1. As identified on the Bid-Agreement Form. Includes all necessary preparation, formwork, reinforcement, and placing and shaping concrete. C. REFERENCES 1. TxDOT 2004 Standard Specification Item Concrete Structures. 2. TxDOT 2004 Standard Specification Item Hydraulic Cement Concrete. 3. ASTM C94 - Ready-Mixed Concrete. 4. ASTM C150 - Portland Cement. D. QUALITY ASSURANCE 1. Perform Work in accordance with TxDOT Standard Specification Item Concrete Structures. 2. Owner will engage a testing and inspection service for quality control testing during construction. II. PART 2 PRODUCTS A. CONCRETE MATERIALS 1. Cement: TxDOT, Item Portland Cement Concrete. 2. Fine and Coarse Aggregates: TxDOT, Item Hydraulic Cement Concrete. 3. Water: Clean and not detrimental to concrete. B. CONCRETE MIX 1. Mix concrete in accordance with TxDOT, Item 420. Deliver concrete in accordance with ASTM C Provide concrete of the following class or as specified on the plans: Cast-in-Place Concrete
8 Min. 28 day Class Strength (psi) Max. W/C Ratio General Use A 3, C&G, Flatwork, Manholes B 2, Thrust Block, Rip-rap C 3, Structural Members 3. Water-Cement ratio shall not exceed the figure established in the "Class of Concrete" table. If water is to be added to compensate for slump loss during transit, it shall be added only in accordance with the curve of cement-water ratio vs. compressive strength, as established by the concrete manufacturer, and only with the approval of the Engineer. No water shall be added at the project site for any reason without the prior approval of the Engineer. 4. The maximum amount of coarse aggregate (dry loose volume) per cubic foot of finished concrete shall not exceed 0.82 cubic feet. In no case shall the amount of coarse aggregate be such that mix harshness or honeycombing results. 5. Use accelerating admixtures in cold weather only when approved by Engineer. Use of admixtures will not relax cold weather placement requirements. 6. Use calcium chloride only when approved by Engineer. 7. Use set retarding admixtures during hot weather only when approved by Engineer. 8. Add air entraining agent to normal weight concrete mix for work exposed to exterior. III. PART 3 EXECUTION A. EXAMINATION 1. Verify requirements for concrete cover over reinforcement. 2. Verify that anchors, seats, plates, reinforcement and other items to be cast into concrete are accurately placed, positioned securely, and will not cause hardship in placing concrete. B. PLACING CONCRETE 1. Place concrete in accordance with TxDOT, Item 420 Concrete Structures. 2. Notify Engineer and Owner a minimum 24 hours prior to commencement of operations. 3. Ensure reinforcement, inserts, embedded parts, formed expansion and contraction joints are not disturbed during concrete placement. C. CONCRETE FINISHING Cast-in-Place Concrete
9 1. Provide formed concrete surfaces to be left exposed with smooth rubbed or as Scheduled on the plans. D. CURING AND PROTECTION 1. Immediately after placement, protect concrete from premature drying, excessively hot or cold temperatures, and mechanical injury. 2. Maintain concrete with minimal moisture loss at relatively constant temperature for period necessary for hydration of cement and hardening of concrete. 3. Cure concrete in accordance with TxDOT, Item 420 Concrete Structures or as approved by the Engineer. For concrete to be stained and sealed cure shall not be contrary to manufacturer s requirements. E. FIELD QUALITY CONTROL 1. Owner will engage an independent testing and inspection agency to sample material, perform tests, and submit reports. Contractor shall be responsible for additional testing of concrete found to be deficient by initial testing by Owner. 2. Make at least three strength tests for each 50 cubic yards of concrete or fraction thereof, of each mixture design of concrete placed in one day. F. PATCHING 1. Allow Engineer and Owner to inspect concrete surfaces immediately upon removal of forms. 2. Excessive honeycomb or embedded debris in concrete is not acceptable. Notify Engineer upon discovery. 3. Patch imperfections as directed. G. DEFECTIVE CONCRETE 1. Defective Concrete: Concrete not conforming to required lines, details, dimensions, tolerances or specified requirements. 2. Repair or replacement of defective concrete will be determined by the Engineer. 3. Do not patch, fill, touch-up, repair, or replace exposed concrete except upon express direction of Engineer for each individual area. END OF SECTION Cast-in-Place Concrete
