1 ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ADMISSION TO MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAM YEAR: SCHOOL OF LIBERAL STUDIES CONSTITUENT SCHOOL OF PANDIT DEENDAYAL PETROLEUM UNIVERSITY INTAKE: 20 STUDENTS EACH 1. AREAS OFFERED a) MASTER OF ARTS (PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION) Relevance of Public Administration has grown immensely since the inception of human civilization, its role has increased and changed from doer/provider to regulator of services in the present times. With the present and future perspective on demand-driven administrative processes in sight, a two year master s degree programme in Public Administration (With specialization in Public Policy and Governance) is being offered by the School of Liberal Studies, PDPU. The curriculum of this Masters Programme covers all cotemporary and conventional areas of Public Administration i.e. theories (traditional to contemporary), internal security, rural development, disaster management, social welfare & social accountability, public enterprise, nonprofit administration etc. The course is supportive for students aspiring to chart out careers in globally competitive public and private sector, career planning for various social science research institutes and civil services. Those who desire to pursue higher studies may join research programmes in disciplines such as development studies, public policy, public administration, development politics, Sociology, Political Science, etc. b) MASTER OF ARTS (POLITICAL SCIENCE-INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS) A two-year master's degree programme in Politics and International Relations gives importance to International Relations while imparting knowledge on vital aspects of Political Science. The papers are prepared in a manner to cope with the fast changing developments at the global scenario, generate orientations in politics and explore new horizons in the field of international relations. From general to specific, the programme offers specialization in the areas of Energy Politics, Political Economy, Foreign Policy and Security 1

2 c) MASTER OF ARTS (ENGLISH) A two year master s degree programme in English literature, designed as per the model course curriculum of UGC prepared to challenge the creativity and imagination of students. The programme opens up an entire panorama of visual arts, theatre arts, science, psycho- analysis, philosophy and films with reference to English literature. PDPU infrastructure supports the unique pedagogy required to deliver such a programme. 2. ADMISSION POLICY AND PROCEDURE 2.1 The admission process for Master of Arts Programme for the batch of will be conducted under the direction of the Admission Committee constituted by the University for School of Liberal Studies. 2.2 Total Number of Seats for admission in each area is limited to Statutory Reservation: For candidate from Indian States & UT s: Scheduled Tribe (ST) 7.5% Scheduled Caste (SC) 15 % Physically challenged will be provided 3% reservation in each category 3. THE SCHOOL OF LIBERAL STUDIES The School - launched its undergraduate programme in Liberal Studies in Students get opportunities to learn courses like Communication, Management, Humanities and Performing Arts and to identify and develop their hidden potential. PDPU has excellent infrastructure, residential facilities and stimulating environment to support the all round development of the students. Liberal Studies is not just about merely teaching a subject to the students but to provide an atmosphere where students acquire a love for learning a subject and subsequently apply their knowledge in their pursuits. It emphasizes on integrated development in teaching, experiential learning and overall grooming of the students in areas of leadership, teamwork, communication skills, thinking skills and being a responsible global citizen to cater to the needs of the diverse world of work. It has been taught in world-renowned universities of North America and Europe for over 100 years on the same campus alongside Engineering and Management Schools to provide interdisciplinary learning opportunities to students. 2

3 3 Now to carry forward its vision of imparting quality education to promising future leaders of the nation, SLS announces Two-Year Masters in: 1) Public Administration 2) Political Science-International Relations 3) English Students would study research driven courses from scholars and experts. 4. ELIGIBILITY 4.1 Candidate must have Bachelor s Degree in any discipline under or pattern of education from any recognized University. 4.2 Final year students awaiting final year results are encouraged to apply. Final admission will be subject to successful passing of the Bachelor s degree. 5. SELECTION PROCEDURE 5.1 Written Test: An entrance test will be conducted on 13 th June 2014 at 11: 00 am. It will evaluate the applicant's competence in the following components: General Knowledge, Literature/ Political Science & International Relation/ Public Administration and Public Policy. The test will have 70 multiple-choice type questions to be answered in 60 minutes and Essay question in 30 minutes. The objective type questions will be divided into two sections. The first section i.e. General Knowledge section would be common and the rest of the exam would be subject-specific based on the MA programme that the student has applied to. The detailed guidelines on Written Test will be published on website shortly. All Candidates are advised to visit the website on regular basis. Written Test will be conducted only at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Raisan (Gandhinagar), Gujarat Merit Marks : Merit Marks shall be the summation of marks obtained in i) Test based on Multiple Choice Answers and ii) Essay Merit List shall be prepared in the descending order of merit marks. There shall be General merit list and one merit list for each statutory reservation category. Criteria Marks Written Multiple Choice Test 70 Essay 30 Total 100

ADMISSION PROCESS 6.1 The application form may also be downloaded from PDPU website at and submitted along with the DD of Rs in favour of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, payable at Ahmedabad. 6.2 Application in prescribed form complete in all respects for above programmes should be submitted before 6 th June 2014 along with the application fee of Rs. 1,200. The Application Fee is non-refundable and no correspondence the following on this subject will be entertained made of payment. The duly filled application form must be sent the following address by registered post, or through DTDC courier. The University has tie-up with DTDC courier and application packet sent through DTDC is delivered to the University on daily basis. CONVENOR, ADMISSION COMMITTEE (MA) SCHOOL OF LIBERAL STUDIES, PANDIT DEENDAYAL PETROLEUM UNIVERSITY RAISAN (GANDHINAGAR), GUJARAT The applicants to all programmes under various reserved category must submit along with application form the attested photocopies of the certificate of verification of the reserved Category issued by the competent authority. These certificates should be in English or with authorized English translation. 6.4 The last date for receiving the application form is 13 th June Admit Card: The application form will have two Admit cards. The student will send the Admit card portion A along with the application form and Admit Card portion B will be retained with student for the admission process. Candidate without admit card shall not be allowed for the Entrance test. 6.6 Acknowledgement of Application Form: The receipt of Application form from candidates will be notified by and list published as per the procedure prescribed on the website under School of Liberal Studies Section. The written test will be conducted on 13 th June 2014 at PDPU campus. 7. TEST ADMINISTRATION 7.1 Candidates are to report at the venue at least 45 minutes before the scheduled time of the commencement of the test. 7.2 No candidate shall be admitted 15 minutes after the commencement of the test. Also no extra time shall be granted for completing the test. 7.3 For candidates who are unable to write because of temporary or permanent disability, writer will be available. The request for such should be made in advance. 4

5 7.4 Candidates shall bring the following when reporting at the test Center: Documents: Admit Card portion B and Proof of payment of application form fee. (Copy of demand draft submitted) Writing Materials: Ball Point Pen, HB Pencils, Eraser, Sharpener 8. NOTE (INSTRUCTIONS FOR WRITTEN TEST) The candidate shall be provided a sealed Question Booklet and an Answer Sheet. Please do not open the Question Booklet until announced. Please fill up the necessary information in the space provided on the cover of the Question Booklet and the Answer Sheet before commencement of the test. The applicants are to sign the attendance sheet during the test duly endorsing the Question Booklet series as given on the Question Booklet and other details. The Admit Card B portion of the candidate shall be signed by /invigilator during the test. This will act as proof of the candidate s appearance in the test. Please ensure that all the Admit Cards (A & B) are duly signed by you and the invigilator. The duration of the test is 1½ hours. There are 70 questions. All questions are compulsory. Each question has four options marked (1), (2), (3) or (4). Answers are to be marked on the Answer Sheet, which will be provided separately. Choose the correct option as you perceive and darken the oval completely, corresponding to (1), (2), (3) or (4) against the relevant question number. Use only HB Pencil to darken the oval for answering. Please do not darken more than one oval against any question, as scanner will reject the answer. If you wish to change any answer, erase completely the one already marked and darken the fresh oval with an HB pencil. Each question carries one mark. There shall be NO NEGATIVE MARKING for wrong answers. However, it is candidates responsibility to make certain that s/he understands and follows the directions for completing Answer Sheet. All applicants submitting Application Forms along with requisite payment by the due date will be given Application Numbers. Applicants may confirm their Roll Numbers and Test Center allotted from the website under School of Liberal Studies section. The candidates must make their own arrangements for reaching the School premises in time for written exam. All expenses for attending written test are to be borne by the candidates. Based on the aggregate marks in written test and essay, the first merit list will be put up on the website on 23 rd June The selected candidates are required to 5

6 complete Admission formalities, fees payment and enrollment by 1 st July 2014 to secure admission. The second merit list, if needed, will be declared on PDPU website on 7 th July The students offered admission in the second merit are required to complete Admission formalities, fees payment and enrollment by 9 th July 2013 to secure admission. Admission closes on 11 th July If a selected candidate fails to secure admission as mentioned in the above, the admission offer will stand cancelled and the seat falling vacant shall be offered to the next waitlisted candidate. 9. CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION/ REFUND OF FEES 9.1 If at any stage, the information provided by the candidate is found to be false, his admission shall be cancelled and his fees shall be refunded. 9.2 All communications by School of Liberal Studies for the admission process will be made through SLS website Candidates are strongly recommended to access the School's website on regular basis for admission updates. 9.3 Refunds for withdrawal of admission will be as per the provisions of law (based on notification no. 14-4/2007 U.3 (A) of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India). 9.4 If a candidate informs the School about his withdrawal of admission in writing at a time when it is possible for the school to fill the vacant seat. 9.5 If on account of withdrawal consequential vacancy is not filled and the seat remains finally unfilled, only the Caution Money Deposit (Rs.10,000/-) and Library Deposit (Rs.3000/-) i.e., a total of a sum of Rs.13000/- will be refunded. 9.6 For withdrawal of admission and seeking refund, a candidate is required to submit the fee receipt, admission letter and the letter of request for withdrawal duly signed by him and counter signed by his parent/guardian. 6

Campus hostel facility will be made available for limited numbers, on the basis of first come first served at the time of admission 11. INTERPRETATIONS AND CHANGE OF ADMISSION RULES In the matter of interpretation of Admission Policies and Procedures, the decision of the Admission Committee shall be final and binding on the candidates. The Admission Committee is authorized to resolve issues that are not covered in the Admission Policies and Procedures mentioned above, on the merit of the cases, and implement the same. 7

The Admission Committee has the right to cancel any admission that has been given inadvertently by the Admission Committee or admission is taken by the candidate on the basis of incorrect/ insufficient information. On admission, the candidate will have to produce his original documents along with one attested copy (by a Gazetted Officer/Head of the Institution last attended) required for the verification by Admission Committee for verification 13.
